Parks and Recreation Department Update
Council Questions and Safety Concerns
Well, good evening, everyone. Uh, this is the informal meeting of the uh Joplin City Council, and we'll call the meeting to order. Um, you need anything from us at this point? No, sir. Sales tax update. Okay. Sales tax update. That would uh be Miss High's good evening, Mayor Council. Um tonight I'm gonna present uh the sales tax for April, which um is for sales from February. Uh you can see we for the month we're up 3.08 percent uh compared to the same month last year. Uh so for the year we're up uh 3.02 percent. So that's good news on sales tax on use tax. Uh not as good of news. Uh for April, we're down 24.1 percent compared to April of last year. Was a pretty large month last year. Um we are up 4.4 percent uh for the year still and then marijuana sales tax. Uh we're down uh just about 16.7 percent. However, uh last year, if you look at uh the sales tax, it was uh kind of all over the board each month. Uh but as you can see, this is pretty well the normal amount every month. Uh so for the year we're up 7.3 percent. Um and I would be happy to answer any questions. I do apologize for not having the financials. I will have them next month. So any questions? Okay. Council members, Mr. Koppel. Uh ma'am, would you just refresh us? Our projected increase for the year was what? For sales tax? Yes, ma'am. Um I believe it was uh one and a half percent. Okay. So when you say good at three percent, that's we're we're shooting above our target. Yes. So I believe I believe sales tax was one and a half percent use tax was I think it was either three or five percent, and marijuana was three or five percent. Great. Thank you, ma'am. Okay. Anyone else? All right, thank you. All right. The next is the uh parks and recreation department update, Paul. Leslie's up here. So good evening, Mayor, City Council. I know I like to talk a lot, but I don't know if I'll be able to fill this whole 45 minutes of time before City Council starts. So welcome aboard the new city council members. Umgratulations. Like to uh look forward to working with you all. Um we'll go ahead and get started.
