So today we're here to celebrate Kansas City's second chance reentry program.

It's a small pilot program made possible through a partnership with the Kansas City Municipal Court, the City of Kansas City, or pardon me, the city's corrections department and other community organizations.

Individuals returning to their communities after jail often face challenges that contribute to the likelihood of being reincarcerated.

And the second chance program makes rehabilitation possible.

Today we're here to celebrate one particular individual named Patrice Tolbert, who's been through this program, unable to be with us here today, but we definitely have a lot to celebrate with her success.

And I just I have to say, I'm I love everything that happens with the municipal court.

We do so much good over there in a really difficult climate.

And I and I've got a lot of favorite judges, but one particular is here today, Judge Corey Carter.

When I started at the prosecutor's office in Clay County in 2008, Judge Carter was also prosecutor at the time, and one of them who's patient enough to teach me as a 25-year-old lawyer what the heck I was doing.

And so I got to see him try cases as a lawyer.

I've appeared before him in court as a private lawyer, and now I get to work with him on policy here.
