The Kansas City Council convened on October 24, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. for a regular business session. The meeting included special recognitions, a same‑day adoption resolution to provide free public transit on Election Day (November 5, 2024), permanent changes to council meeting start times, a consent docket of claims and administrative items, and a debated ordinance allocating $300,000 from the Violence Prevention and Intervention Fund for police software. Several infrastructure contracts were also approved.

Thank you. All right. Mayor Pro Tim. Thank you, Honorable Mayor. It is my honor to rise to recognize Miss Orley McKenzie and Life 360. She is the founder of Life 360 and has dedicated her life to empowering Kansas City's youth and fostering community leadership through the integration of education, technology, and cultural preservation. She has uh opened countless doors of opportunity for young people in Kansas City, providing with the tooling them with the tools, confidence, and inspiration needed to succeed in an increasingly complex world. She has uh established partnerships with the Watkins Foundation, Creative City KC Incorporated, the Kansas City Museum, and they have uh significantly contributed to the preservation of our city's rich cultural historical legacy. In collaboration with these organizations, um Creative KC Inc. and uh American Music Apprenticeship Program, they have celebrated and preserved Kansas City's musical heritage, as well as um the with the efforts working with the efforts of Miss Anita Brown Dixon Brown, which we are familiar with in this chamber. Through her visionary leadership and dedication to promoting diversity and inclusion, Miss McKenzie has united our community, building a brighter, more inclusive future for Kansas City, and it is my honor today to honor her and thank you so much for your commitment uh for really working with our youth and helping to elevate them to the level levels of leadership that we know that they are very capable of. And I just uh thank you and wish you much success. Thank you, Mayor Pro Tim. Are there others who wish to speak to the resolution? I want to thank the mayor pro tem for honoring Life 360 and all it does in our community. We say often here that at City Hall, we think about programmatic efforts to improve our community, but it's really people like y'all out on the streets each day doing the work, and so we appreciate you for that.
