2:25

Thank you, Mr.

2:26

This special action recognizes International Adolescent Health Week at Children's Mercy Hospital.

2:32

I am honored and excited to sponsor this special action, having a much better understanding of adolescent health now having a one-year-old and a three-year-old than I did previously, and understanding how critical the services that health institutions like Children Mercy provide for the community.

3:01

Jordan's Mercy is a nationally recognized leader in pediatric and adolescent health through clinical care research and community partnerships that promote health and prevent disease.

3:09

And I would note expansion of the pediatric health that Children's Mercy has begun to provide in the last couple of years by doubling down and focusing on mental health and how big of a uh of the the pro big of a part of the new programming that has become.

3:31

The only thing I would say, and I swore to my wife, I would take the opportunity to share this every time I speak with anyone who works at Children's Mercy is that I hope that expansion includes a larger uh pediatric ER so that those wait times go down a little more because y'all are the only game in town.

3:50

Otherwise, I appreciate you for bringing this to our attention and giving me the opportunity to work with you and to recognize International Adolescent Health Week.

Kansas City Council Approves Stadium Financing Ordinances (October 8, 2026)

The Kansas City Council convened on October 8, 2026, to consider several significant items, most notably approving the financing package for a new downtown baseball stadium. The council authorized a city contribution of up to $615 million and the issuance of up to $537 million in revenue bonds after extensive debate.

Special Recognition

  • International Adolescent Health Week (Resolution 260926): The council unanimously adopted a resolution sponsored by Councilman Raya recognizing International Adolescent Health Week at Children's Mercy Hospital. Dr. Ryan Pasterneck stated the proclamation makes young people "visible in our community."

Consent Calendar

The council agreed to re-refer the item to the Neighborhood Planning and Development Committee for a substitute.
  • Downtown Stadium TIF Plan and Impact Area Policy (260888): Councilman Willett and Councilman Duncan criticized the use of $20 million from citywide GO Bonds for the for-profit stadium. Councilwoman Patterson successfully amended the ordinance to cap future administrative map expansions at 3% of anticipated revenue. Passed as amended 11-2.
  • Stadium Bond Authorization (260889): Councilman Duncan proposed amendments on revenue sharing (failed 3-9-1) and public disclosure of the Royals' pro forma (failed 2-10). Councilman Rogers supported the package, calling it a "good deal for the city." The ordinance passed 7-2.
