Kearney City Council Meeting
City Council met on November 26, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers. The meeting was brief and concluded without any public hearings, regular agenda items, or oral communications. All present council members voted unanimously to approve the consent agenda and then adjourned.
Consent Calendar
- Approved minutes of the November 12, 2024 regular meeting.
- Approved the claims.
- Received Planning Commission recommendations and set December 10, 2024 at 5:30 p.m. as the date and time for hearings on applicable applications.
- Adopted Resolution No. 2024-161, repealing Resolution No. 2024-118 and adopting the 2024-2025 Comprehensive Fee Schedule, updating wording regarding carnival/circus occupation tax, removing Exhibition fees, removing Street vendor permit fees, adding Mobile Food Vendor Permit fees, and amending Meadowlark Hills Golf Course tournament fees.
- Adopted Resolution No. 2024-162 approving the Fire Chief's recommendation to add Zachary T. Beckman as a member of the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department.
- Approved the purchase of a Side Loading Refuse Compactor Truck for $390,638.00 from Elliot Equipment Co. under the Sourcewell Cooperative Purchasing Contract Program for use in the Utilities Department.
- Approved the Plans and Specifications for 2025 Part 1 Improvements – 30th Avenue Overpass Rehabilitation and set the bid opening date for January 7, 2025 at 2:00 p.m.
- Adopted Resolution No. 2024-163 approving Application and Certificate for Payment No. 27 for $483,184.47 submitted by John T. Jones Construction Co. and approved by Miller & Associates for the WWTP Phase II Improvements; Water Resource Recovery Facility.
Other Remarks
- Mayor Nikkila (referred to as 'Mayor Claus' in the transcript) noted the absence of Council Member Tami James Moore and welcomed incoming council members. He announced that a punch reception to thank departing council members Bruce and San will be held after the next council meeting on December 10, 2024.
- City staff expressed thanks to Sarah and Brenda for organizing an additional yard waste cleanup, which was described as very well received throughout town.
