The Lafayette City Council met on August 5, 2025, to address public comments on permits, prairie dog management, trail safety, and historic preservation; discuss and provide direction on board/commission term lengths and limits; accept the 2024 annual comprehensive financial report; and establish a sister city partnership with Iquitos, Peru. The meeting adjourned to executive session for legal advice on sales tax issues.
Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome. I will call to order the city council meeting for August fifth, twenty twenty-five, and we will begin with the Pledge of Allegiance. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. And to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God. Okay. This is Dave Eckert. Oh, Paul. Never mind. Yes, come on up, please. Um we have submitted appropriate documents to do so two years ago, May 20th, 2023. Had heard nothing for the first 10 months. In March of 24, a Lauren Fichter sent an email to me saying she was reviewing our application and would get back to us in a week or two. Nothing happened until June. In June, well, rather we had a let me digress. We had a meeting in April with Jeff Brazzle and Kevin Schulman and one other gentleman whose name I don't remember, who uh acknowledged the fact that we had an application in by virtue of telling me that he has numerous emails to me regarding said application. I said, really? Show me. I have two. He could show me no more than two. The first one was the application. The his call, his email to me telling me I had to fill out an application. The second email was sending me the form to do so. I heard nothing from him since until April of that year when we had a meeting here in this building. Um I call him a liar. I felt uh very put out that he would tell me something like that that he couldn't prove. Um left with a bad taste in my mouth. Uh I was here with a representative of Circle K. I should digress again. This is regarding the Circle K station here on uh 201 or 225 west south west South Boulder Road. What we're attempting to do is build a small shed, 112 square feet. Um I'm licensed in 27 different jurisdictions, and I have never ever been faced with a situation like this. I've been able to walk in over the counter and get permits for such things as small. Here it doesn't work that way. Not mine to say. However, the system works, I'll go through with it. But uh more has happened since uh, as I said, Lauren Fictor sent me the notice in March of 24. In June of 24, Stephen Williams took over and denied that we had even ever sent in an application. I said, Oh, contraire, Mr. Fichter has told me three months ago that she's working on it. Don't you know what you're doing in your own department? That didn't go over well. I'm sarcastic, admittedly. Um frustrated. To date, we have turned in every single paper requested, answered every question requested. Um I have been told that my submittals are illegible. I said, how so? They're submitted to me electronically. I communicate electronically to you. Why can't you read them?
