The August 18, 2026 City Council meeting included a public hearing on the first reading of Ordinance No. 15, Series 2026, which would repeal and replace Chapter 26 (Land Use Code) and the zoning map. Council heard public testimony on the land use code, the capital bond project for the Bob Burger Rec Center, ADU restrictions, and Flock security cameras. The consent agenda was approved unanimously, and 14 members were appointed to the Lafayette Youth Advisory Board. Council voted to approve the land use code on first reading and directed staff to prepare specific amendments for second reading.
Good evening, everyone. Uh the city council meeting for August eighteenth, twenty twenty six will come to order, and we'll begin tonight with a pledge of allegiance. Clerk back, could we please get a roll call? Mayor Tapia Vega? Here. Mayor Pro Tem Barnes. Councilor Bullier? Here. Councilor Friedland. Councilor Gallegos. Councilor Gianola. Here. And Councillor Jensen. Here, Mayor, we have a quorum. Thank you so much. Uh Mayor Protum Barnes and Councillor Gallegas both told me they're running a little late, but they are on their way. So we'll see them here shortly. And we see the hand up. I'm assuming it's just for attendance, Councillor Fridlund. Sorry, the room is muted. So just want to let you know that. Um also just wanted to I'm I'm worried I may not make it all the way to Councilor Thomas, so I just want to say it's good to see everybody. Thank you for the kind words. Um I appreciate your patience with me as I get into life balance as a as a father, and uh we'll do my best to be as present as I can tonight. Um but I appreciate your grace as uh if I go off screen to deal with a crying baby. So but good to see everybody. Happy to be here. No worries, thank you, Counselor. We appreciate having you back. Um as always, we'll begin with the Pledge of Allegiance. Sorry, not the letter roll call. Uh and then public. Jesus Christ. I'm tired of that. It's been a very long week. It's Tuesday. Um if you want to speak tonight, you want to address council, please just fill out one of these speaker request forms. They are in the back through that glass door. Uh when we do call your name, you will have five minutes. Just come on up to the podium, state your name and address for the record. Uh, and then you will again have those five minutes to speak. I say this a lot because it's it's hard to gauge just how long five minutes is if you don't know exactly what you're doing. But don't worry, there's a little clock in front of you. So when you're standing up here and speaking to council, if you look down and to your left, there's a little clock that tells you exactly how much time you have left. At those five minutes, just for the sake of making sure everybody gets the exact same amount of time, I'll tell you your time is up. Um but with that, the only other thing I have to say is that if you're not here today, you still have the opportunity to speak. It's something that I love about the city of Lafayette. If you're watching us at home, all you have to do is call in and you will also have your five minutes to address council tonight. Okay, with that, we'll begin tonight with Frank Archelletta. Frank Archelletta.
