Whereas for 25 years, Sexual Assault Awareness Month has united survivors, advocates, and communities in the shared commitment to end sexual assault, abuse, and harassment, whereas everyday sexual violence affects individuals of all ages, races, ethnicities, gender, identities, sexual orientation, and circumstances across Loudoun County and the Commonwealth.

And whereas most women and men across all sexual identities who experience sexual violence report that person who harmed them as someone they knew.

And whereas the crime of sexual violence occurs too far too frequently, goes unreported or underreported far too often, and leaves a long-lasting impact.

And whereas all members of the community have a shared responsibility to create an environment that promotes safety, accountability, and respect.

Whereas during National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month, we recommit ourselves to removing the stigma and shame surrounding the victimization of sexual violence, expanding support for survivors, and increasing prevention education and strengthening our response.
