Historic Board of Review Meeting Summary - June 29, 2026
The Historic Board of Review convened on June 29, 2026, to consider three applications for work at historic properties in Marietta, Georgia. The meeting covered approval of minutes, routine replacement of HVAC equipment, a request for window signage, and construction of a stone fireplace and paver patio at an event venue. No members of the public spoke during the meeting.
Consent Calendar
- The minutes from the previous meeting were approved unanimously by motion and a second.
Discussion Items
- 25 North Park Square (Willie Ray's Social): Applicant Jesse Hill presented a proposal to replace HVAC equipment at the rooftop. The replacement is a direct replacement of existing units, with the only change being a few additional inches in the visible roof units. The board moved to approve the application; no opposition was noted.
- 95 Church Street (Woody's Cheesesteaks): Owner Matt Porcelli requested approval to install stickers (window vinyls) on the outside of storefront windows. The stickers include hours of operation, the logo, and a circle logo for the back door. A board member noted uncertainty about how window vinyls are treated under signage regulations. The board approved the application with a variance if needed, pending square footage limits. No opposition was expressed.
- 57 Whitlock Avenue (Whitlock venue): Representative Andrew introduced the applicant, accompanied by owner Jim Heilman. They proposed building a natural stone veneer fireplace and a 2,000-square-foot paver patio behind the carriage house at the wedding and event venue. The carriage house is currently used as a groom's room and breakout space. The area is not visible from Whitlock Avenue. The project would provide additional event space. The board approved the application unanimously.
Key Outcomes
- All three applications were approved by the board without opposition or public comment.
- The meeting adjourned after the final item.
Meeting Transcript
Okay, I'm gonna call the meeting of the historic board of review to order the first item or the minutes from last meeting. I move that we um approve the minutes. Second, Chris. Any other okay? First application 25 North Park Square. If you can just come up and introduce yourself and just tell us a briefly about your project. We'll see if there's any questions. Hi, my name's Jesse Hill. Uh we're looking to change out the HVAC equipment at Willie Ray's uh social. Uh pretty much direct replacement. Uh only difference is a couple inches on the units that's visible from the roof. Any questions, anyone? Yeah, I'll make a motion that we approve. Second. Second. Any other discussion? All those in favor. Okay, thank you. All right, thank you. Have a great day. 95 Church Street, Woody's Cheese Day. Same process, Matt. Hello, everybody. My name is Matt Porcelli. I'm one of the owners of Woody's Cheestakes. And with the board's approval, we'd like to put some fancy stickers on our storefront windows like our neighbors. Simple hours of operation, the logo, and one of these circle logos is going to be on the back door, also. There's a lack of signage for all of all the tenants back there. So we'd like to start that. Are these going on the outside or the inside? Yes, sir. Outside. Our windows are tinted, so I think it would look better on the outside. Shelby, there are any issues. Need for a variance or anything. It might not hurt. It's not very clear how window vinyls are treated, whether it's a primary sign or not. So including one. Didn't hurt. I'd like to make a motion to approve with a variance if needed, if the square footage does not goes over. Jim. Any other discussion? All those in favor. All right. Thank you. Thank you. 57 Whitlaw. I forgot to say Joe is out. He had a um something with his son. His the son's you probably know, Jim, his son's in the military, and it was uh change of command.
