This is I believe the seventh year annual presentation for our commission.

And I think we've made a lot of progress this year.

Um this is a slide from last year, uh 2022.

Um in the Willow Creek Master Plan of 2020, um, they recommended forming a friends of Willow Creek group to maintain to clean up the area.

Um they were talking the that initial um plan was from um Washington or I'm sorry, from Monroe to Washington.

Um we that group was supposed to work with our commission, but we it was not we were not the group, we were not that group.

Um we were asked to form the organization, and um last year I said we're still searching for a leader.

Here's the Friends of Willow Creek 2023.

Um we had two leaders volunteer Sharon Steckman and Skyler Lee.

They uh organized the event that was held on October 30th.

Um the first um thing they decided to do was include the area from West Park, basically the tennis courts had uh that and then continue it over to Washington Avenue.

Um that morning, heavy brush and on you know, heavy lumber timber was removed by the North Iowa Human Trail Powered Group.

Um, and then there were 30 or 40 volunteers uh that picked up debris, bagged it, cleaned out weeds and all.

Um there's one volunteer that came uh from down near Iowa City.

He was an 80-year-old guy who grew up in Mason City, remembers uh playing uh while he was growing up along Willow Creek.

Um we had two women who painted that concrete structure um west of Monroe paint donated by Diane Jarville.

Um Jitters gave a drink to everybody who helped in the city.

Mason City provided snacks, water, and garbage bags.

It was a great event.
