Um I only had one quick question, and I just wanted to confirm that I'm pulling it up.

Um item city council.

Just that on item item 5B with the amendment to the 2122 Home American Rescue Plan.

Um, one thing I forgot to ask during study session was uh whether or not any of these funds were intended to be allocated towards the Sun Air project, um, or if that was also still on hold right now.

So I just needed clarification on that one thing.

Mayor and Councilmember Taylor, the action you're taking tonight is an administrative action that just changes the designation in the HUD.

So the determination of the use of these funds has not been determined at this time.

We're working on the exact date to just get some further direction on the office streets program.

So um there would be no funding allocated to um to the program to that specific site or to any funding until we get direction from council um as to that.

I I've jumped ahead here, so let me go get my uh agenda number here.

Um last uh at our last study session 3A.

I think Mr.

Quedans had indicated we were going to uh get some information on is it O'Kelly's police calls?

Are you gonna drill a little bit further down into that?

If I recall correctly, I'm just curious if we have any more information than we were able to consider.

Councilmember uh yes, I got it late this afternoon.

So for O'Kelly's, the building sits in a building on the west end of that property, so there are multiple businesses in that location in 25 um calendar year 2025, they had 15 calls for service, and in 26 so far, they've had three.

O'Kelly's specifically, just the one location in that building.

Uh in 2025, they had 12 calls.

Noise, trespassing, assault, and a DUI.

Uh, and again, that could have been out in the parking lot.

That might not be attributable to the business itself.

And then in 2026, they had two specific two O'Kelly's.

Oh, thank you.

Um maybe I could ask you in your experience, or this isn't your area, then I understand that.

But is that is that typical of an establishment like this in terms of number of calls for service, or is that more a question for PD?

Um P can chime in on whether or not they're comfortable with it, but uh my experience, council member, is that that's actually I was expecting a higher number.

So I was just gonna say, do I recall from our conversation at the last study session that the liquor board will there's a protest on this, so the triggers are liquor board review?

I'll go ahead and jump in.

Um, I was out of town last week, but I did come back in time for Saturday's activities.

Uh I went to the historic preservation art and essay contest celebration at the post on Saturday.

Students remitted um under the America 250 umbrella, but historical places and essays and as well on historical places, and there were some awards given uh by the historic preservation board to the students.

Um it's a great turnout.

It's inspiring.

I can't believe the talent of these young people is wonderful, and I appreciate the attention to historic preservation.

Um the mayor was there as well and spoke.

Um afterwards, um and the mayor and council member Summers went to the um East Valley Cadets for Fire Cadet graduation.

And um there was like 40 some four or seven, something like that.

Yeah, yeah.

Young adults uh who graduated from the program, and um it was quite inspiring to see them and all that they accomplished.

Um congratulations to them, and I appreciate everybody in the fire department who who hosts this program for the youth.

And um then I went to Mesa Amplified.

It was the concert series uh that was going on music throughout downtown on Friday and Saturday.

I went Saturday night, and on the main stage, we had um the Ataris were the final act, and I was able to watch that as well as some other music.

Downtown was jammed.

There was people everywhere and all the businesses, everybody was busy.

It's a great turnout.

Thank you to the downtown Mesa Association for putting it together.

This is their first one that they've done it independent of the Mesa Music Festival, which we'll be having in the fall.

Um I love having more music in downtown and be recognized for that.

So thank you for everybody who worked hard on to put that together.

Oh um, Michelle Donovan at the Nile was very instrumental in putting together the talent as well as Mandy at that Mesa Arts Center and some other staff members.

Mayor, I know you and I and Councilmember Adams were at the Salt River Pima Indian Community's uh grand opening.

It was a soft opening of their cultural center.

Uh absolutely fascinating.

It was uh they've repurposed their old school that was built by a number of uh craftsmen back.

Uh it's almost a hundred years old, right?

It's 90 something years old.

And if you think about the old Indian school in downtown Phoenix, the students from there were bust out to build this school.

Uh so that's it's been completely renovated and repurposed in addition on site.

They have uh one of the original Brick Adobe school buildings.

It was a one-room school, like you would think of in the West, which is on site.

That wasn't open yet, but it was really fascinating to see that and experience a lot of the uh the cultural features.

They had the dancing and Native American food and uh um in the museum on top of that.

So that was a fun event to go to and a great partner, sir.

Salt River has been with uh with Mesa.

Oh, yeah, absolutely.

I'll just share with you.

I was with Jay O'Donnell, our uh team leader for economic development.

We were in Phoenix at a Taiwan U.S.

Science Park Initiative meeting, basically doing a pitch for Taiwan to bring a campus to Mace, Arizona, competing against other neighboring communities, uh along with ASU and SRP.

I spoke at the Rotary District 5495 America 250 District Conference at the Sheridan.

Again, the Historic Preservation Month, the East Valley Fire Cadet today, experienced core program volunteer appreciate.

It's a reader event.

They read AARP sponsored individuals to get into the schools and read uh to students, and then council member Goforth and I visit Sister Cities Exchange students there from Peru, and then some of our students are going down to Peru as well.

Um, of course, we'll convene upstairs at 5 45 this evening for the full council meeting, and then on Thursday, uh study session will start at 7 30 a.m.

But we will kick that off with the East Mark and Cadence uh Community Facility District meetings and then the regular study session immediately following those.

Um just uh just to note as well uh I know we mentioned it last week that the Mesa Hydration Campaign um hydration donation campaign kicks off tomorrow uh with the United Food Bank.

So I know many of you will be participating in advance in the coming weeks and months uh for that.

So uh just want to highlight that.

And then Friday is the district three spring blast again at Rhodes uh Aquatic Complex, and Councilmember Heretti is looking forward to welcoming the community and district three residents into uh into that um event from 5 to 7 p.m.

on Friday evening.

The mayor is making a proclamation for um mental health awareness day.

Today is mental health awareness day.

We just did some photos just a little while ago, and wearing green be the signature color to recognize the importance of uh mental health and getting the help that uh we need from time to time and taking care of each other.

Um I don't know.

You probably have some eloquent words set aside, but um I just wanted to recognize Mental Health Awareness Day.

It's hard to hear you, Council Member.

If you can speak into your microphone, okay, okay.

Where'd that come from?

I could hear them very well.

Um regardless, yeah.

This is mental health awareness month, and not only today.

No, it's the month, and that's that's fine.

And and I know that as a city we're very proactive addressing mental health needs in our community, and we have programs set up both internally and externally, and I I think that's a very valuable resource we have in our community.

So it's important that we make that aware and know that we stand ready to help and serve.
