So given all the emails and phone calls I've already had.

I'm sure that everybody knows what I'm here for.

So the executives and the marketing department are just offering.

We're doing a competing event on Fridays, and it was planned what long time ago.

I did not actually know about it because it goes at a different level.

So they just were offering you 10,000 to see if you wanted to move your events to the Eureka.

It was it was a nice gesture, not like a mean gesture because I got a lot of really weird phone calls.

Are you going to go into detail about what they could be uh offered again?

Right.

So we have a new event planner, and these discussions started back when she was in New Hampshire.

So uh they want to do a first Friday, and since I'm the only person who actually touches mesquite, they had no idea that this event was going on.

So when I brought it up, they said, Oh my goodness, we'd love to have joint together.

And then they said, Well, please offer them 10,000.

And you know, at the Eureka, we have all the the permits and the alcohol and the electricity and the people, and it was just to make it easier.

Uh, because in in our defense, your uh event was often on a couple of times, so that's we didn't know it was a for sure, but they um they will probably continue with their event.

And it's not really competing because it's a different kind of event, or is it more like a first Friday kind of a party?

So am I okay to ask questions?

Yes.

So Jerry, so they're gonna do it.

You guys are gonna do it anyway.

And it's gonna be called first Friday.

No, I I we're gonna do it anyway.

I don't know what they'll do.

They'll probably um I can't, I don't know.

I'm not the event prep planner.

But they're gonna they will, yes, most probably they will continue with their planning.

Okay, so my only question then with the competing stuff, because both of them can go.

I mean, oh absolutely we're here.

Um, would they be recruiting artists?

Would you be doing an art walk at I do not know at the casino?

I honestly, honestly don't know.

The I think the original idea was to do three themed events.

So uh I honestly don't know.

I don't I don't think so.

I don't think it would be an art walk.

It would be it's gonna be a first Friday of the casino.

Yay, have fun.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking.

What are the times proposed?

Yes, I think their plan again.

Uh we have this brand new event planner, and this event planner, we're excited about having her because she's done fairs and uh, you know, in New Hampshire, she's done some really big events.

She's owned her own dance studios, she does pageants, she does all that.

So we're excited about having her, and she's excited to hit the ground uh running.

So uh I think that we would start a little bit later.

Maybe evening yours is yeah, like four.

I think yours is four to seven.

Four to seven or I think theirs was looking at being like five to eight.

Oh, okay.

Jerry, what I don't want to do, I I don't want.

Jerry, what I don't want to do, I I don't want, I mean, she's coming into town, and you're excited about that, and she may have great ideas and everything.

So I don't think we want to say um, you know, no, you know, heck with you, we don't want anything to do with you.

I would never take it like that.

Because I could see that we could all work together in the future.

Absolutely, yes, absolutely.

She just really doesn't know the town yet, and she this is her assignment.

This is my assignment.

So uh, yeah, it's it's what it is.

And the money is actually coming out of my budget.

So uh I imagine they they would take that money and give it to her for that event.

So uh Jerry, I have a question.

Anyway, um my question to um the event planner, um and to you would be is there some way that we could work together with um maybe like if ours is like from four to seven, um, and maybe have the eureka do theirs from like six to ten or something like that.

Also, um, so people could slide from one event over to the next event.

Um, is that a possibility?

Is there a way that you know it could be one big First Friday event where we're coordinating the two together?

Absolutely um do the art walk on one side and then go over and do the adult side over the eureka, so to speak.

Absolutely, absolutely.

Uh, and I'm sure that that's well, you know how I bring everybody together anyway, so that's what I would push for.

Uh because it is, it's just gonna be like a happy Friday.

Yeah, we're not looking to take uh anything away from yours.

That's why we were just thinking if we gather together.

Uh, but yes, absolutely.

It's we will absolutely make it a community event, so it's everyone's invited.

I mean, I would like to see um the coordination between the two.

Um because I think that the eureka's always been a good partner to everybody in town.

Um, and we'd like to keep that going.

But we also the main purpose of our first Friday that we all planned, and Judy can correct me if I'm wrong, but it was about being in the arts district and promoting the new arts district and the art is there, so to speak.

So oh, absolutely, yeah, absolutely.

There's this is not a problem.

It was it was hopefully would have been a solution if you needed it, but it is absolutely not a problem.

Yeah, Chris, yeah.

Um I think joining together would be a great idea, but as far as the Eureka doing something with the arts, we could use an art fair here, a big three-day art fair.

I think maybe Impact could help the Eureka get that together, and we have information.

I mean, um, back used to do that, and it used to be on the on, and it was such a hit, and Park City and Cedar City and Kay into all do these.

I think it would be a great draw.

Just my suggestion.

I'm here as the Eureka, but of course, you know, I'm also Morph, and so is George.

So uh absolutely that is something we can bring up in our morph uh uh discussions because that's really what we're aiming for.

We would love to do a big event, and that way, because I'm also the Eureka, the Eureka would help.

So it's we're all sort of all squished together, but uh I would love to see a big art event.

Absolutely love it like the way um greater mesquite arts foundation used to do it, so that was a big event.

So it's not off the table at all.

Jerry, uh Madam Chair, this is George.

Could I make a comment or a question?

Um as we put this together, um where what happens to the 10,000 dollars?

It goes back in my pocket where it'll stay locked up until I give it out again.

If we don't know, I do not know.

I am not in on that planning part of it at all.

I just it was just the date that I happened to hear floating around.

It's just because my little fingers are everywhere.

I happen to hear this.

And uh then once it once we talked about it, uh Babashi Patel, who's our she's our vice president, she's over all she's over my department, which is a department of one, uh, but also all the other departments.

Uh she was she felt very strongly like she she just didn't want you to think we were trying to to take your event away, right?

You know, so that's and she's please offer them this money.

Well, that's nice.

Yeah, it was it was honestly, it really was.

It was a very honest thoughtful gesture given all she has on her plate that she worried about you know your feelings.

Well, we appreciate that.

We do any other comments from the committee.

I I like the idea of the certainly the idea of the coordination, and it'll be interesting to see uh the diversity of interests because I think there's there will be plenty for people to do on that first first Friday, and I think that's a good thing.

And certainly I can introduce you to uh Mary Hogan.

Her title is something crazy, like customer experience manager, which I don't know, but again, she's a great event planner, so maybe we can all get together sometime and just talk, you know, throw around some ideas for future events.

I'm not sure, I don't think we need to vote or anything.

Well, if you want to actually do it, you would need to vote, or if you just want to say you can vote that you're you're willing to urge them and communicate and decide later or I can't we can't hear you.

I was just saying that if you want to make a vote to continue with joining with Eureka, or if you're gonna make it a done deal, or that's kind of the voting that you'd need to do.

So I would think that offering you this money, you want it or you don't want I I think that's probably what we need to decide.

So I can go back and tell my people.

I think I would like to see us set up a meeting with her to see so we could work out details with the for the uh Judy's first Friday committee to see if we you know the timings would work you'd want to make a motion that you would want to continue with discussion with the Eureka on moving forward.

I make a motion to continue uh speaking with the Eureka about said um ideas moving forward.

So then moving on to administrative items.

Um 4.2 discussion and possible action regarding the repairs of the mural at the theater.

And Mitzi, do you have an update on that at all?

Um no, I understand that the George has been talking with the the George.

George, yeah, do you have I'd be happy to make a report on the three murals that we're working with the first at the uh theater uh miles has researched uh the correct top coat and plans to apply it when he finishes a project in Turkey where he is currently uh working on a big project for Disney, I understand and uh besides all that it needs to cool off a little bit before he can paint.

Um Ken Kayler uh who's also a gosh we're so fortunate to have artists of this caliber.

Ken is the individual who did the mural on first North Street at the uh the hair, what's going to be called, I think the Mesquite Heritage Park, the Dixie Levitt project.

That mural is uh based on a photograph done, I think in uh 1890, something like that when the George we'll need to talk about those ones during commissioners' comments and reports.

Okay, so just stick to the theater repairs.

Okay, well, that's the report I have on that.

Well, do we have anybody from the city who wants to talk about what they've done to this point?

The big the big white stripe on there.

Well, what the Miles is gonna have to repaint that's what he said.

Okay, yeah, I know that, and a couple things we're gonna have to talk about there that now the texture's not the same.

And I was talking to Miles the other day, but we didn't talk about this.

Um so I don't know about that.

I guess Miles will that'll be him, and then who's gonna pay?

Because um he's gonna have to get up high, so that's gonna mean uh renting a lift again because so I said who's gonna pay, and everybody left the room.

I think Steve, we're gonna we're gonna have to work that out with Randy.

Okay, okay, so that's that's to be worked out, and we can look towards the fall when it cools down a little bit to fix that.

Yeah, unfortunately it won't be there in whole for the for the first Friday, but we'll work on that.

I don't know how long he's gonna be in Turkey.

So we'll we'll hear from him when he gets back, and then we can get him and Randy in a room and decide what's next.

And we went through a lot of that with when Jerry was here, but since we are pretty much have hit a fork in the road, we have first Friday.

Um we'll continue with that from four to seven at the art gallery, Ayuca Street Fair, I guess you call it.

And and Jimmy Hughes.

I I do know that we are having trouble right now getting food vendors, the food trucks because so many of them go to Las Vegas.

A lot of them.

I've got three, I need the fourth, and so working on that.

And so we're working on that.

And I kind of just put everything on the back burner until we found out what was happening.

Um with the Eureka.

I have got several sponsors at 150 each, one at 250.

And so I will go ahead and pursue that so that we have money for advertising because that's where the advertising budget comes from.

So that's pretty much my update right now.

We have more discussion from Judy, can I?

Yes, you can.

First off, I want to say um thank you to your team.

I know Chris, you've been involved, and maybe Cynthia, I forget who else from our group.

Cynthia Mitzi, um Chris and Dottie and Richard.

Well, um, tons of thanks for getting this going.

I think this is huge.

Okay, so my question is um for the the 20 dollars for a vendor, or maybe just my question is you know, that you advertise vendors, okay.

And I've got a bunch of calls, you know, who do I contact?

So who do they contact and what's the deal with the vendors?

It's gonna be Chris at the art gallery and Mitzi at the theater, and they are sending out.

I did not respond to a lot of the I have had tremendous response on the advertising that I sent out ahead of this before we knew about the Eureka offer.

And I've had really great response from the vendors, people wanting to be a part of it, wanting to know if it's just artwork or how they're going to select the vendors, and so now we can go ahead proceed with all of that with the getting more of the flyer out, getting public interests going, because that's what it's going to take to get people in.

I think for the first Friday.

Okay, so if people who ask who contact me about being a vendor and they're not members of um Virgin Valley Artists Association, if they're members of Virgin Valley Artists Association, they don't need to do anything else, they'll just work with you guys, right?

Um if they're members and they want a booth, they'll pay 20 dollars.

But that'll just that'll just be strictly through you.

Well, I think anybody who wants a booth with us will come through us.

$10 is a vendor fee from the city and $10 is for the either the theater, the Jimmy Hughes campus and the art gallery.

So if they come to us, we'll um get them set up with a book.

Well, they'll set themselves up with a booth, we'll mark them down if they have no booth.

Okay, so you so you're in for you're taking care of non-members.

We will sure, and so will the theater, I think.

Yeah, and so will the women's center, right?

Are they gonna be um uh people able to register through them as well?

Or is it just gonna be the theater and the gallery?

Just through the gallery and the theater.

Okay, so that you have control over you're gonna have to have control over it because you're gonna need a vendor list for the city with their ten dollars.

Okay, yeah.

Okay, so my question is um that if you have someone who would who the woman's center, can Gene send a tape set a table out front and sell things or take donations without paying the $20?

I think anybody that has a table out front at the Jimmy Hughes campus, he's talking about.

Oh yeah, yeah, at the Jimmy Hughes campus.

You mean for nonprofits?

Is that what you're saying?

Yeah, yeah.

So I think if she's not if she's selling something, the city is going to require her to have a vendor license if she's selling something, whether it's profit or not profit.

If she's passing out information, probably not.

Okay, so Becky, if you have something that um your guy's a little room over there for show girls.

To try and get control, yes, uh the Miss Senior Mesquite pageant would definitely like a table or booth to get contestants for our pageant in 2026, but you won't be selling anything.

We will not be selling anything.

We just and you have a space over at the Jimmy Hughes campus.

And the show girls are going to be helping with the maps and uh directing people.

So we'll be glad to do whatever we need.

Um at our venue, we're going to have an emphasis on performance.

And I noticed on the um flyer that it said bands for entertainment.

And I had sent back a message requesting that it say bands and entertainment, you know, okay.

Performers, bands and performers, so that uh well that that's just what we promote.

I really see us having more um informational tables at our at our spot than maybe vendors.

So I'm and I'm personally very excited about this project.

Yeah, Mitshi, I'd I'd kind of like to think about that because bands and performance doesn't seem terribly informative because what you're really trying to get some people into the theater to see real performance, right?

Um then we'll go on to uh four point the commissioners' comments and reports.

George, you had something you wanted to discuss.

Yeah, I I wanted to make everyone aware of the new mural on first north, which is uh very unusual because it's done in stucco, which gives the the uh surface dimension and it the artist also put some glitter in it, so it's it's really very interesting to me at least because uh it changes depending on what the light is the middle of light is and where you stand.

Um and that artist uh happens to be also employed by Ace Hardware, and he's working with uh his owner to talk about a uh a mural on one of the ace buildings in town here.

They haven't come up with a plan yet, and uh on the third mural.

Uh Miles is working with uh Josh Teachin, who is the general manager at Reliance Connects to come up with the design, so I've got a couple of things that George has done.

Yeah, okay.

Um first is our dance mesquite, which the um council approved, I believe.

I believe Judy, you took that to the council and got that approved.

That was a square where people can take a uh um and miles, like I say, he's in Turkey and it's hot right now, but um I'll have to look for funding, but we're good to go with that.

Oh, okay, and we'll work with Mitzi on the first one, and I think Junior Post is is set for one in front of their place.

So that's good.

Um, the other thing I'm not sure anybody knows about it.

Um, Nevada Arts Council has a grant out called America 250, and they're matching an artist with the towns for some type of um America or 250th anniversary um art public art.

Okay, I has anybody heard this yet from the city?

Um well it's out there if anybody sees this and is interested.

Um, they can contact me and I'll give them the the link from Nevada Arts Council to apply for it.
