Okay, I was thinking that we should, since Goldfield has a poet laureate, we should have a poet laureate.

And I would suggest that we have a poet laureate adult and we also have a junior poet laureate.

Um, that we would find a scholarship for the junior poet laureate, you know, like 250 or 500 or something.

The poet laureate would represent mesquite or Virgin Valley, I guess mesquite and different poetry events across the state.

Um we would not pay the poet laureate, they would have to do it on their own.

Okay, and I just wanted to see is everybody think that's a good idea.

If they do, then I'll put together a program and come back.

I think it falls right under what we do with you know, mesquite public arts.

Having a poet laureate represent mesquite would be an ideal thing.

I just um if you have a idea or a plan, I would say put it together so we can see it.

Uh-huh or anything else about first Friday okay um okay um start I'll start with the setup we need to have help to set up we need to have some kind of organization or something in place for these monthly setups um there's it just takes a minute we know where everything needs to go but it needs to be younger people that can muscle the things that need to be set up okay so that that's that's one thing I did reach out to um Judge Toon to see if I could get uh some uh community service workers um I haven't heard back from them um and uh the uh consideration was were we selling uh or were did we have alcohol on the property and I said no not at not at the Jimmy Hughes Center because we're focusing on a kid's zone and in the family art log and so it's we want to make it family friendly so anyway um

I did reach out to Judge Toon to see if I could get some uh community service workers.

Um I haven't heard back from them.

Um and uh the uh consideration was were we selling uh or were did we have alcohol on the property?

And I said no, not at not at the Jimmy Hughes Center because we're focusing on a kid's zone and in a family our log, and so it's we want to make it family friendly.

So anyway, um so that's that's one item, okay, is needing help to set up and tear down.

Um, and I um let's see.

Um the second thing was that um a few days before Friday we had our corn dog truck pull out, and then on Friday morning we had the um fixology truck cancel, and so we had no um no food and beverage and it uh I I was concerned when the corn dog truck canceled because we were advertising food trucks, okay.

So I went up to St.

George and I bought um uh a hundred a hundred hot dogs with the the fixings and you know, napkins and plates and stuff.

So that was our plan uh because we had access to a hot dog grill thing.

So that's that's why we went there.

So the theater provided the food, and then uh then I got the call that fixology wasn't coming, so then we made a mad dash to get some drinks and a cooler and ice so that we would have drinks there for for people and and water.

So that was a last minute thing.

So with the um uh having to not having enough help to set up and then not having the food having to deal with that that was added, just added added layers of uh what's what's happening to put this together.

Um then I had vendors, I had five vendors email me or call or text that pulled out Friday morning because they couldn't get volunteers to man their tables.

So then the table area was thin.

So our our breezeway walk, there wasn't really a lot there, but we did scramble to get a cottage vendor to come, and we did invite the lady across the street to bring her stuff over to set up a craft vend uh vendor table.

So we had one cottage table and we had a vendor table or yeah, so that's what we had.

Um we had uh great entertainment, uh, Delta Strait.

We were able to light the stage and um have show lights going on, and and uh so I think that that's gonna be a real success there for the the uh entertainment for the patio.

Um we did get I wanted to fulfill Judy's request, and so we did get a bounce house, and we didn't have to pay $300 for it because Ace donated it to us for the kids' zone, and we had a stage, and we had advertised open mic at the kids' stage, okay, and flyers went out, and this was all on social media.

We did not have any lighting.

Um there were two children that played in the bounce house, everything sat in the dark.

The Steam Center brought their table over and put it in front of the mural so that they could be in the light for their for their table that they were doing, but um it was people were happy, and people you know didn't know any of this had gone on.

Okay, so it it just it was it was a nice evening, there was no wind, that was a plus, and um but on a positive note, so we're always thinking about ways how to make this work.

Uh LaFondas had come and put their table up in front of the uh by the women's center, and they gave a sample of chips and salsa.

They counted out 100 little uh dishes and uh that were divided, salsa on one side chips on the other, and then they gave it out a five-dollar coupon.

They were very happy because they only had 10 of their little uh dishes left, so they knew that there was 90 who had been there and uh take took the samples and then got the five-dollar coupon.

And then um, so uh Jean had said, Jean Watkinson said, well, Danielles wanted to know how many, how many they um want to uh or how many people were there to sample, and if there was more than 60, they would bring a table down in December and sample Danielle's.

So then that got us thinking that why don't we create as part of that vendor row there at the Jimmy Hughes campus, a taste of mesquite and invite restaurants to come different times and uh give out samples like they do at Costco.

That's a very popular thing, and then we would be promoting our restaurants here in town.

It would we would be promoting a business.

So I'm going to look to do the to do that.

Um if if the board thinks that's a good idea, and then um there was uh something else that turned out really well.

Um anyway, I don't mean to go on and on, but I'm just giving you a report of what what was what was there, what was going on, and uh what we need to do if we're gonna continue with this because I really believe in it, and so I'm always thinking about how can I make this work rather than no, I don't want to do this anymore.

Okay, I don't I I want to make it work.

I'm excited about it.

It's just these things that have to be addressed.

Um the symphony um had a table that they shared with the um theater, and so we were giving out the the handouts for their uh their programs that were coming up, and I don't mean to go on and on, but there is one thing that I I want to say at the end of all this.

I want to thank Impact for uh having the tools and being able to schedule the artist and fixing our mural in front of the theater, and thank you very much.

Everyone just we have a lot of selfies, people are coming taking selfies in front of that, and so thank you very much.

Um I still think that um everyone is down by the art center because it's pretty and all the good stuff is there, all the some jewelry and some beautiful things that I saw.

So I'm just gonna put that out there.

We've got to figure out how to make sure there's enough on each end that get people to go because uh I still didn't see that many people down there, and the art center was crowded.

That's number one.

Number two is they were selling wine inside the uh the art center itself, which they can do.

There uh a donation.

I correct you, they were not selling it.

And I said a donation.

Donation, yeah.

I I was I was getting ready to say that, Karen.

Um, but it's a always been a donation.

Just what uh FYI about the wine and the alcohol thing.

Uh then uh I talked to the rotary uh gentleman that was sitting at his table, and they have a really cool thing going on with all their books, but their library is right there behind him, so there's no way unless and it's dark over there, but I was he said they made over a hundred dollars the first week because you buy books for a dollar, but the one thing that he said that may be something for the future, not right now, is that we put a food truck right behind him because it's a parking lot, so that would also bring them over to hear that wonderful band and um visit um the vendors that are there, and so I wanted to put that out because they were very happy.

I don't think that they had as good a turnout this time.

I don't uh think that that's a problem, but um Steve was sitting, we Steve and I were sitting over there, and uh we did have a lot of people at the very end come up and ask questions.

So being there is actually really important.

We may not have anybody talk to us in till the end, but it was really good.

Uh the one person that was selling the sourdough bread wants to do that again, and he wants to get a business going.

So I think we're doing the right thing.

I I know we're going in the right direction.

So that's all my comments that I got gleaned.

And I'll ask Steve if he has anything else to add to that since he was with me.

The only thing I'll say, Mitzi, thank you.

You really I I didn't go down to the um to the art gallery besides take their flags down to them and then go down and pick their flags up.

But I had a blast.

So when Bonnie and I sat and talked for a long time, we got to wander around and talk to people and recite poetry and things like that, and we're going nothing but upward, I think.

Um I like your ideas to get the the food vendors in there because I know people were excited about La Fonda.

I have one more.

The other thing I did, which I thought was really important is I went to almost every translate that for me later.

Huh?

I can't hear it.

I'm talking right in it.

I don't think I can get any close.

I can but anyway, um I went to every table that I saw around the art center and along the wall at Jimmy Hughes and introduced myself, told them that we I was very happy to have them there.

Could you please uh just remember that this is new and things are developing as we figure out what really works, and please don't get discouraged if you don't sell a lot tonight, it may be better the next time.

So um I think they appreciated that.

So and then they you know saw somebody they might remember.

So um I thought that I thought that was a good thing.

So that's all I want to think back to Bonnie on that one.

I had done the same thing at both places the first first Friday.

So it's important that we, if we're there, have that opportunity to go around and just say thank you, introduce yourself, and let them know that somebody acknowledges that they're there.

Okay, so um, yes, I think that that's good that MPAC identifies themselves and kind of owns what's going on there because there's a lot of people that don't know never heard of MPAC.

That's why we have the new brochure.

Yeah, okay, and so anyway, I I uh that's that's great.

Um, I forgot what I was gonna say.

Okay, so what we talked about doing, okay, when it's having a feature, okay.

So we have all of these things going on all the time, but like at uh at our on our stage, we have the pre-show and the open mic, and then the the guest and you know, just things like that that are running.

But in talking to the arts gallery and the and this might work for the rotary too.

I think that if we have a feature at each of our places, our spots at a certain time that doesn't, you know, conflict a lot, you know, it's just kind of a and then people can make their own family art walk according to those times, and and we we have you know a person teaching something or it maybe doing a just something that is different from selling a craft because I I believe if it's your vision, tell me if I'm wrong.

I believe that the vision is that it is that an art walk involves many different kinds of art experiences, and I feel like that's what we need to develop at down at the Jimmy Hughes Center, are more experiences and and putting these times on, go see this, go see that, walk down there kind of thing.

But this is in the future, you know.

This isn't gonna happen on December 5th.

Exactly on a sign on a placard ahead of time in both places as to this is what's going on at Jimmy Hughes at these times.

This is what's going on at the art gallery at these times.

So I think what we're talking about is I think that we're talking about setup, the facilities of it.

Okay, and the marketing of it, the marketing of impact, what impact is doing, the marketing of this, the vision for the the city, what what we're trying to accomplish by building this, and then of course the experience that the families or or uh patrons can have on a first Friday.

So I think it's it's a it's a lot to take in, but I think it's a very wonderful uh journey and goal.

Um George and I were down, and Cynthia was there too at the um fine arts center, and there were quite a few people wandering through, but we also know a lot of that was because Christmas boutique had opened up.

So there was, and so a lot of people are walking around with bags, some were from inside, some were from the vendors.

Um again, the main question was where are the food trucks?

Um I think within your committee, um maybe we can start talking to the fire department or something.

We have okay, we have a temporary solution.

First of all, the Jimmy Hughes Center has a uh food vendor there.

Uh Dan Bueno Tacos.

Sorry.

Anyway, he's coming.

They also have um hopefully fixology will have their transition from to the new owners, they will be there.

And we are also going to be working on the uh mesquite um taste a mosquito.

Taste of mosquitoes working on that to see if we can't get a few more uh of the restaurants in town there over at the art center.

The corndog truck might be there, might not be there.

I I don't know.

Uh, but um chubby's will be there, and then also Dottie is putting together a um chili.

It's not a cook-off, but a chili tasting where you can go in and and for a donation have a bowl of chili or a stew or a soup or something, and so that will help with the foods issue.

Um the other question I have for you, Metsy.

Um, I just saw a post on Facebook from Norma, and it says Delta Strait Ban is going to be at the Fine Arts Gallery on in December.

Okay.

So you're aware, because you said Delta Strait was coming back.

No, they have been to the last two with you.

They've been with us, yes.

Okay.

And then and then they did post that they were at the Jimmy Hughes Center.

So we yeah, she did.

She does a really good job.

She does them.

She does do, yes.

Yeah, if anybody w if anybody wants to look at what good marketing looks like, they need to look at Delta Strait and what she's doing for them.

Um George, do you have any comments from up at the when we were at the Fine Arts Center?

Okay.

Um, we did have a lot of people stop.

I handed out a lot of maps.

The problem is that they couldn't see it.

Um I did make a suggestion when we at Morph that when we redo the map, if we could when we print them out, um, we're gonna take a highlighter and say you are here, because everybody always asks me where I where am I?

So um anyway, um, it's a nice map, but it you can't do the walk in the dark, you know.

So um is there any future look at some kind of lighting along the street?

Well we're working with Randy, but so far Randy hasn't shown up to the meetings, so it's just kind of in limbo, and that is one of the main things is to get lighting in that parking lot next to CSN where the fun the kids zone will be and so that it will bring attraction from the gallery.

I mean, it's only a hundred yards, but it's dark, yeah, and it needs lighting, and it needs something that attracts people down to the fun zone down there.

I think we're gonna try to move the kids' zone around the corner so that they have lighting for December because I don't think the lighting's gonna happen by then.

So yeah, we're gonna try to work that out so that they have a more established place to show the for the kids' zone.

Um and if you too, as you're running this, and I know we can't participate in your meetings, but if you need to get something from any of us to help you with, come to us and we'll you know, I think we're all willing to help in any way we can.

We just can't go to your meetings and help.

So okay.

It's just we need at this point, um, because of the meeting laws and all that, we can't be there.

We do we do need to have a a big showing of impact at these at the because it is sponsored by impact.

It is there, they are the impetus behind it, and so we knew need to have them there.

We have to have them at the tables we have to have information.

Yeah, and I think um we were all there at this last one, other than you were excused, obviously.

I mean, so um, I think we did a good job on this last one.

Yeah, I think people were uh I I saw a lot of people I know from the community who are involved in the arts.

I mean, I'm kind of new to the community, but um, they were really thrilled about the idea.

You know, people I know who paint or or do other things, and they thought it was a great idea.

They they were having a good time.

They, you know, they wanted to know what plans for the future are.

So it may be that you know, in the future, something like your idea, we can get people who actually do demonstrations or teach mini classes or have more participatory um events like that, which I think would be very thrilling for both children and adults.

Maybe somehow in the marketing, like on Facebook or something like that, that you or uh on next door, you put a call out for artists who want to participate.

I have done that.

Oh, you have done that, okay.

That that would be go ahead, George.

Yeah, I was wondering that as it gets colder, how much are we gonna go through the winter months and do it or postpone it for it it was planned to go through next May, but we were going to have a meeting to discuss with the committee was to discuss what's gonna happen in the future.

Yeah, Mitzi.

I did have a concern about the temperature and was was wondering if it should do a a call out for those uh heaters.

You know the heaters that they I don't know if the city has anything like that or that I but I think that that is uh a consider something to consider and I and I think coming back to January, is it January 2nd or 3rd is so fast after the Christmas uh holiday break.

Yeah, that would not that I don't know.

Well, the thing is if if we've said this is going to be the first Friday, yes, we need to have the continuity, whether we have a low turnout or not.

I think the continuity needs to be maintained.

Like I quit shopping a store if they quit changing the, you know, because they keep changing their hours.

Right.

You know, and if I don't know when you're gonna be open, you're now off my consideration list.

So um I was just blue.

Can can can you blue sky?

Is this I'm not no or just report?

Okay.

Anyway, I understand about the heaters, um, but that would have to be probably come from private sources.

Um, and it is chilly, and maybe we need to just plan the events more so that way where we can be more inside, you know, a little bit, but that's hard to do.

And and some of our winter days and nights aren't all that cold.

So okay, this is a thought.

Is that maybe like the rotary and and maybe all of the whoever wants to wants to have hot chocolate and um candy canes or something inside of where they're at being it's cold, and then that would be a way to introduce people to what's there.

I don't know if that would work for the arts center, but I know that I haven't been through their kiln class they put up or their glassmaking class, you know.

It would be interesting just to walk through.

And they do have a uh a classroom next to where the glassroom is, so that they could set up something in there for um hot chocolate or whatever, or coffee, you know, for that matter.

But but just that they're more set up to do something like that than what we are.

Um for America 250.

Oh I had this problem when I was on the city council, it's why I didn't come again.

So what America 250 is, of course, we're turning 250 years old, and they are commemorating um this anniversary um with um trying to go out and do some grants within um different communities, and they have um scoped mesquite in for a project.

Um we need to get some ideas to them as soon as possible.

Um, Steve has submitted um a project to them, but he's also submitting it through Main Street in case the other falls through.

Um, and it's to do a wrap on a power box, but the wrap would um entail um four women who were important in the um suffragant, okay.

Yeah, the suffragettes basically from Nevada, um, and they there would be a story to go along with it.

Um, and that of course um Tony knows that we haven't been around here for 250 years, so we can't do anything that's 250 years old.

What he himself is looking at also is the committee there, the Nevada Arts Council is interested in doing a mural.

Um, they will pay for the mural to be done.

They have the artist to do the mural.

We just need to submit an idea for a mural and a building or a wall.

Um at the meeting, um, I was very happy to see Martin was there.

Martin was all excited about it, especially since the facts and figures that he brought into the meeting also um delved into the economic development aspects of these grants and what the council can the arts council can do and the facts and figures she got out of that, she was very impressed.

So um it does anybody have we we've talked about the um ace hardware wall, um, but they have somebody that they already want to do something specific on that wall.

Okay.

Um so if you see another wall, that would be forefront.

Um, I know we talked about the reliance wall, reliance kind of wants what they want, but it'll fit in, um, but it's not real visible from the street.

Um they would he would like to see past, present, future of mesquite in the idea or the concept.

Um, like I said, he's got the um artists to do these things, so we don't have to worry about you know paying an artist or anything, but we just need to give a concept or an idea to them.

So um within the next week or so, if you have time, if you can come up with something or a wall you would like to see, maybe a mural on, if you would like to come up with an idea for past, present, and future that depicts mesquite or Nevada, um, please email me and then I can get back to Tony and we can submit um a proposal to him to come to Mesquite and do this for us.

Okay, that's my discussion.

Any discussion about that idea or um a discussion about um Steve's idea that he's already submitted.

Um both are good ideas.

Um, and you know, I don't know which way the arts council is gonna go, but we should give them some options so we make sure that we get something done in the arts here.

So it is they are looking for a mural idea for like you said, uh, past, present, and and future.

So it is murals that they're looking for.

America, that's one of that's the one thing he's focusing on.

But I have a I have a comment that this is very low on the poll, but of things, but um he was loved our boxes.

He thought that was a very clever idea, which was nice, and uh I just want to tell you that he mentioned that all your hotel taxes that we have to we whine about all the time, go to the art council, and so does the personalized license plates.

That money also goes to the council, and he was trying to support the fact that they have an other other ways to get money besides the the what they are allotted every year by the government.

I think so.

Um Karen and I uh had the pleasure of running around town to look and find boxes, since there is essentially no uh record that I can find.

There's a map that had some of them on, but uh these are all the power companies boxes, and um we to make an overview of it.

Most of them are beginning to crack, and it depends, of course, the relationship to the sun, but uh uh cracking, and then the seams are peeling apart, so they're rolling out a little bit, and then all that's also around the top between where the top and the sides meet, and uh there seems to be in many of them.

One side looks great, and then the rest of it um is it in disrepair, and then also fading.

We saw a lot of fading and darkening.

I thought that was interesting on some of the darker colors that she used.

It's actually less of bleeding out over it.

But uh, we got 14.

We have found 14 boxes.

Yeah, we're missing one because that included the one for um the firehouse, and that's new, but there were 14 originally.

So there is one, yeah.

The fire uh department, of course, is brand new, so we didn't even look at that.

Um but that's that's all I have to say at the moment.

Um I think there's one or two that must be done, redone.

And uh I'll I'll turn the rest of it over to Karen.

Okay, so I um at the Morph meeting, um, we brought this up, and Morph has been good enough to allow us in the main street grant, which is where the original money for the wraps came from.

Um we have we're requesting $5200 to start redoing the really bad sides of these wraps on the open on the boxes.

Um that the one of the bids we one of the estimates we got was $1,300 per side.

So um was it $1,300 a side, yeah.

So I think um I think it was $5200 we were gonna do that would be 26.

That's four sides.

Anyway, um that grant is going in.

We'll see if we can get the money to get started on them.

Meanwhile, we are still looking for the 14th um box, and I had a I went and stopped by Clark County because obviously they're the ones who installed, and the lady wasn't there, but she's supposed to be looking it up.

Marco Marco went hunting, he really went hunting, and he found that one of we were trying to figure out whose were private and which ones were through the grant only.

Um Jerry Chasco said Eureka paid for two, um, one at um rising star, one at Eureka, and of course, she'll be responsible for the one at Eureka and is all good with that.

Um they Marco found two for the Rotary Club.

I only could only we could only find one that said Rotary Club, didn't we?

Yeah, I think there's only one with Rotary Club on it.

So that might be the missing one, and then Sue Barr did one of them that's over by Rising Star, which is now Holiday Inn.

Um, and she put her dog on it.

So um she's responsible for that one.

But he also found that there was one for Jeannie Havillan and Patricia Bryclin.

So if anybody knows those people, please let me know.

Um, but meanwhile, I'm gonna try and get more information from Clark County as to the who paid for the wraps originally, and then also um I'm gonna ask Paul Benedict, who's um the treasurer for Morph, and Paul um would have handled the money because the money came into Morph from the grant, and he would have been the one that made the expenditures, and I'm sure he has records because he's very meticulous about keeping his records.

So that and I'm we meet on Wednesday, so I figured I'd ask him there.

Um other than that, um, if anybody, I gave everybody a list because this is what um Bonnie gave me with locations.

If you see one, check it off, make sure you saw it.

And but if you see one and it's not on the list, let us know so we can add it to the list.

We'll find that missing wrap someplace in town.

So any discussion on where we should go from here with the wraps.

Is everybody okay with going with the main street grants to kind of treat keep going?

Um so we're everything will be the new material, I hope, you know, when we put them down.

So there are some that are so bad.

I'm I would think they have to be scraped before you put a new wrap on it or a new you know, sheet on that side, but we'll let Clark County tell us that because if that's the case, then we'll have to wait for the next grant because we didn't put anything in for we just put it in for covering over, like the ones that are fading out really bad that we can cover over.

At this point, we can still modify the grant education.

So if I can find out something today from I'm gonna stop by Clark County again and see if I can find out any more information, then I'll have more info for Wednesday.

The applications are by December, yeah.

So we still have the rest of November.

So it's still, and it was not one that we originally did.

So um think about um if you'd like to step up and take the job, or um, I have a vice chair over here.

So, but right now I think that it's you know, it's it it's time to have a change, okay?
