We've got discussion and possible actions.

So we've got an update on our Nevada Main Street grant and the Arts Council America 250 grant.

So I'll run through those.

Um we'll start with the Arts Council America 250 grant, which was for $15,000.

Okay, and that took care of uh the mural, um, the Reliance Mural, which was also paid for by Reliance and a donation by Paul Benedict, and we had a very uh good uh unveiling of that.

And thank you for all who came and everybody's paid on that.

Thank you.

Um the 250 wraps, um, we've received the money from that, and that's at um that went to um mesquite works, and that's been paid out for the America 250 wraps, and the one wrap is almost complete at fire station two, and they'll be starting the wrap at fire station three shortly.

Um with that $15,000, we have six hundred and thirty dollars left over, and of which we're going to do Dance Mesquite, and Kaelin is working on that.

So, and Kaylin's provided um what it's gonna cost and everything.

So I'm sure everybody's good, but I don't think we need a vote, but just to tell you that um Kaylin will go ahead and work with that, and I'll I'll dispense the $630 from Mesquite Works um somehow, either to her or to whoever the vendors are.

So can I ask a question on course?

Um Kayla and so um I'd send out that uh email that copied you and Wes Carter, who's in charge of the Jimmy Hughes campus, you know, for uh fixing the cement, smoothing the cement off.

Um were you able to touch base with the Jimmy Hughes Center so that they know what we're doing there?

Um I don't think I have yet, and I don't think I've seen the was it an email that you sent me.

Okay, I I'll work with Kaelin on that unless you get back beforehand and um we'll make sure because they're gonna once you guys are done, they're gonna want to put cones up around it and sweep it off and everything.

Um, we are the statue is gonna be delivered sometime, probably in August.

Okay, and we paid for half of that.

Okay, and then the suffrage wrap, we're probably looking at um September, October.

Rochelle's working on those, and that's gonna be you know, another month or two.

So and and I think Karen, then I think your part of that is complete with mine, yeah.

Mine is complete, and um I have had discussions with the new treasurer at Morph, and I think she's figuring out how to uh request those funds from Main Street um and take it from there.

So anyway, um I do know Clark County has been fully paid for all of that work.

Oh, oh, okay, that's good.

Yeah, I know, yeah.

Um I made sure Clark County got paid.

Um and they said, well, we didn't they thought I was supposed to apply for the funds from Main Street, and I said, No, I have no ability to do that.

You have all the information when the grant was granted, and so you guys the Paul's already always done it, and so we guess you need to figure it out.

So they're working on it.

Okay, and that's what they have the same to do with the statue because there's half due on that, yeah, and everything else.

So I know that that Paul for that part's um gonna work with uh Ann.

Um anything else on 3.1.

And Mitzi, I think this is yours.

Okay, um so I'm meeting with uh a committee.

It's they're not a committee, it's a uh I don't know what to call it, a pre-committee on uh August 3rd at 12 o'clock, and it's with the two uh band teachers from the middle school and the high school, Ashley Centers, whose proposal this is, Jenny Good, who is um musician, and she's it's a strategic committee, and so we're going to uh talk about um having a putting together a Google form that we send out to the community with specific questions about getting a committee and doing this project.

So that's where we are with it right now.

But uh people still want to talk about it, but I do have um Google form um ideas that we would like to have input, you know, as far as who wants to be on the committee who would like to be a teacher who would like to actually do setup, you know, for the bands.

Um who would uh we need a a space for about four months to six months for rehearsal, you know.

So this is really a community event, and it has the possibility of growing into something permanent, you know, each each year.

But um, there's a lot of steps to go into it.

But that's where we're at.

We're at our strategic committee right now on August 3rd.

So hopefully that it is, you know, that's okay.

Um preparation for the site for Dance Nevada.

We're we just talked about now.

I have a letter, uh uh email to uh Randy Lobb about the availability of the amphitheater.

He has not um returned or has not answered this yet.

Um there is um okay, so from okay, so now I'm talking about being a member on the on the board of second Saturdays.

So they also had asked me to contact Randy about the use of the amphitheater to see if it's opened or not.

And again, um I I have some ideas moving forward on that as to it being a stage uh for poets and uh you know, Chautauquas, where a person uh dresses in the costume of the day and tells the bio of the character or or a town history story or something like that.

So the amphitheater is all equipped to plug in a speaker and a microphone and and have these kind of these um linguistic or poetry uh performances, so that it would be a uh poetry poetry walk or uh or a uh historic path, you know, that they would go across the street.

Some way we would would hook it up with it with the art name that goes with our our trails and our second Saturday name.

So um anyway, and then I thought that we could introduce and use the Poet Laureate's performances at the venue and kind of expand what that poet laureate is and educate the community.

But I saw this as being about a one-hour performance starting out at the second Saturday, possibly from 11.30 or not 11.30, because the the thing is from 11 to 3, but I thought this amphitheater introduction could be like from 1.30 to 2.30 an hour, and then we would every 15 minutes have a performer or speaker or you know, these these costume performers doing doing these uh educational and art art speaking performances.

Um Nitsi, uh I throw this one in because up here in Wyoming, um, in one of the small towns down the road in Auburn, they have what they call the old rock church.

Okay, old rock church.

Uh-huh.

And every summer, um, and it's meant as a fundraiser to keep to keep the old rock church restored.

Um someone writes a play about an historical event that happened here in Star Valley.

Uh-huh.

And every year they perform it, oh, like for a month and a half on Friday, Saturday, sometime not Sunday, it's Mormon.

Um anyway, they um it's all very uh fact-based, but fictional story.

Um so you might look into the history of that too, which I think would go really well in the um heritage um part there.

Exactly.

Um I have them look into the old rock church.

Um, and I can I save the brochure from the performance this year um with some names and people on it, and um I can give that to you when I get back.

Okay, and see this is on the lines of summer stock, summer stock theater is what you're talking about.

But this amphitheater, yes, if we had something that was prepared and and played, you know, yeah, and then that also plays into our our um, you know, the visit mesquite, what is it?

Uh travel mesquite, you know, so they can put that on the venue.

We have this play that goes on on the weekends, and and you can put that into your travel, you know.

Okay.

So yes, definitely.

So anyway, I thought, you know, I thought about what you were just talking about as you were talking, having been there.

Right, right.

Um, so the whole thing is that uh, so I've been over there and went through the and it's a lovely, lovely venue.

So it would be having the uh um Dixie Leavid approval of what we're doing there because people are living will be living upstairs, you know, people will reside there.

So whatever's at the amphitheater, you know, we have to respect the time and but you know, with all the little shops they want to open there.

Um I just think something like that would be would draw an audience.

Kind of like Pioneer Village at Lagoon is what it reminded me of in Utah in Farmington, Utah.

So anyway, it so the key thing is getting the go from Randy, because I know Randy said um he what at the time first time that he was approached that he it wasn't ready or he wasn't interested or whatever, but you know, it does add one more thing, one more responsibility to him, you know.

But I think we could find someone to manage it, manage the amphitheater, you know, as far as for city use, you know, and we would just uh we would schedule the time that we wanted to use it, you know.

So do we know Mitzi who's um over that or who's gonna manage it?

No, we don't.

It's Randy, it's Randy's over it right now.

I'm just saying what we could find someone for us on the time that we wish to use it, and they would be in charge of of uh setting up the you know, whatever the setup was, you know, the speakers and that.

But I mean there's plenty of outlets, and I I have a personal speaker system, it's older, but it works really good uh to start with, but we may want to have somebody invest in one or that the city invest in a speaker system for the amphitheater.

But I do see performances there.

I see summer stock.

Um I personally would like to direct 110 in the shade right there, and then at the very end, you have a hose going across the audience and it actually rains.

They actually turn on the hose and it actually rains, you know, so it's it's kind of exciting, you know.

We it would play well there, but those are just things, those are g whiz things that I think about.

Okay, well, I I guess first things first is it's somebody's gonna have to talk with Randy and or Becca and the city and see what their plan is is for that.

I mean, it's there, so I assume it's going to be used.

So what's the plan?

How can people how could is there gonna be a cost?

Is there gonna be you know what's going to be needed?

So and and I do have that list.

So what I could do if you think this is okay when I get back, is I could make an appointment with Randy and Becca to talk about to talk about this if you thought that might be a good next step.

Um so it was just an amazing clip.

The whole thing was such an amazing trip.

Um, every kid used every second wisely and got so much out of it.

I mean, there's I wouldn't say there's not one complaint.

Like it was just amazing that way.

And then as far as performance-wise, our kids could not have done better.

Like they um were by far the crowd's favorite for both of the shows.

Um, people would see us.

We had a completely full house for um our one act, like there was waiting, people were waiting to see it and they couldn't.

It was a it was really cool.

It was done in a round, um, in a black box round.

It was amazing, but it was a three-deck round, which I've never seen before.

It was pretty crazy.

Um, so it was it was a full house, and the crowd went wild.

They did a standing elevation multiple times in the show.

Best show they've ever done.

Um could not have asked for it to be better.

Like they just and they were by far a crowd favorite.

The lighting person came up to us and said afterwards, like she you know, she watches all of these, and that is by far her favorite comedy that she's ever seen.

Um, so that's that's pretty impressive.

Um and then as far as uh um short film, they got top five, and they don't they don't tell you, they only tell you the winner and then top five.

Um, so we're in top fives, but again, crowd favorite people were going crazy.

Um his so Grady has it on like his YouTube channel, and he had like something like 18 followers or something like that.

And by the end of that night, he had like 575 followers on on YouTube.

So that's pretty cool.

And yeah, I think that every kid just gained so much.

They they you know, learned new crafts, they they learned new techniques, they made new friends that for will be a forever friends.

Um I just couldn't say it enough good things about it, and I want to thank all of you that just helped them get there and supported them and because it was just phenomenal.

Bethany, thank you, and thank you for going and thanks for all the kids.

Um, I I have a couple questions.

Um Bethany, yeah.

How many how many students attended?

And how many uh adult chaperones attended?

So we had 17 adult, I mean, sorry, 17 kids and six chaperones.

And um, and yeah, I don't know who who got more out of it, the chaperones or the kids.

Um because it's so amazing.

On the uh, so then on the one act, did they also give a winner in top five on that one or only on the film?

One act, if you showcase a one act, so that means you have won the highest you can win.

So they all did get these little Fezzi pins.

Um, because if you if you have made it to the one act at Nationals, then you you won the highest you can possibly win.

Oh and so how many um how many entries were there?

How many one acts were there?

Um, I would say it was probably like 20.

20.

So 20 in international.

It wasn't just national, it was international.

Oh wow.

So there were people from China there, there were people from South Africa, there were several people, you know, several schools from Europe.

Um, like from England.

It was it was very cool to meet these.

So dispergrins, what was your favorite besides our comedy?

Did you have a favorite?

Um yes, there was one that was called the unreturning, and it was about um the PTFD after war and um soldiers, and it was just it was so impactful.

I actually got to sit by Eliana and Jenny, and um I can't talk about how crying because it was so impactful.

And to see all of these kids, everyone just balling.

I've never seen a team trust each other more because there was so much physical combat and physical um just so many trust falls and so many.

I mean, yeah, I think I'm familiar with it.

It was so beautiful.

And and Eliana just was sobbing.

I mean, and and Jenny was too, and I was too.

I mean, everyone, and I we actually sat next to the directors too.

And I I just you've never seen a prouder director, you know.

It was just absolutely, yeah.

It was beautiful.

So as far as comedy, our I think ours won for sure.

Um, because I watched, and so did so did um the kids.

They watched a lot of one act.

And I would say ours was the most polished for sure.

Like again, our team, our team um trust each other.

They knew they would be there for each other with lines, and it was it was amazing.

So do you and I don't know, all of it, I think all of you have seen it.

And so the part at the end where um where Grady, who is a little girl who comes back, she's been kidnapped, he actually sat on the fireplace, like sat on it like it was a real fireplace.

Oh and um, of course, it just collapsed to the floor, and um, and the whole audience, like I they were just dying.

They were it was so perfect.

It was amazing.

So, how many of those 17 kids were uh part of the rising stars?

Oh gosh, I would say I would say maybe there's only like two that aren't.

I would say probably 16 of them.

So do you think that they're they're they're being polished, their professionalism having previous training?

Oh, yeah.

Yeah, yeah.

Yep, for sure.

Yeah.

So I watched um uh they could, you know, talk about us too, but um his kids were able to go to um down to Smith Center and do Camp Broadway.

And Jenny sent me the video of them, and you they stand out so much, those two kids, Eliana and Alex.

Uh-huh.

Like they are so polished, and they stand out.

Like you can see, like they've had training.

They've uh they've been worked with.

So yeah, I would say they have they're we're doing well, we're doing well.

But there's also one that's by um a past uh commissioner.

But there's only X amount of dollars we wanted to ask for.

So we kind of picked the live guides.

So I know George asked the same thing.

He goes, how come we're paying for them when they're not finished?

And I said, but uh the two sides are done.

Um the funds for the 3D Nevada um that were supposed to be awarded in June, um, were not awarded at that board meeting for travel nevada.

Um they we are technically on the agenda for the September.

They only meet quarterly, so for the September meeting, we're on there.

So hopefully those funds will be officially awarded, even though they they have told us that we are getting them.

That's why people have said we've gotten them, but it's not official.
