The Mesquite City Council held a technical review meeting on August 18, 2026, at 2:30 PM to discuss the agenda for the upcoming regular city council meeting. The meeting focused on agenda items, public comments, and one administrative addition. No final decisions were made on the main agenda items; the council only approved adding an ad hoc housing committee item to the next regular meeting's agenda.
Welcome. We are here for the technical review meeting, August 18th. And we're going to start with public comment. And just remember this public comment session is for anything that's not going to be on our work session. And you have three minutes when you get up to the microphone. Please announce your name. Or have to come down 15 days after. Thank you, Dominic. Anybody else have any public comments? Hi, uh Brandon Grimes, 1378 Sea Pines. Not right now. See you later. Any other public comment? CNN, we're going to close that public comment session. And I'm going to ask does council or anybody else have anything to add or remove to the agenda. So I do have an item to add about the housing committee. And so, and I given the language up there, if someone would like to make a motion just to formally add that to the next uh agenda. Thank you, Adam. Um, do you want me to add that agenda item first or do we want public comment? So um you uh we should we could there should be a motion, but then we have public comment on it before we uh discuss it. Thank you. I I will go ahead and add the motion for consideration of approval of a resolution establishing an ad hoc housing committee within the city of Mesquite and providing for the committee's composition and purpose. Can I get a second? I'll second. Thank you, Councilman Parrish. Can I get a vote? Let's have a public comment first and then you can call for the vote. Can I any public comment on adding an ad hoc committee? Seeing none, can I get a motion of vote? Parish, and I'll sign fielding aye. Galloway. And that motion passes. Do we have anything else to add to the agenda? Councilman Wanless. I agree with what Mr. Loveto said. There should be time frames in our ordinance of when signs can go up and when they can come down. Paul, maybe I can jump in here too. I spoke briefly with uh another council member prior to the meeting, and what we talked about is valid point, important to look at, something that Travis and I would probably need to get together on. And then, but with the way we publish our agenda tomorrow to get everything in a new, you know, amended ordinance right ready for tomorrow might be a little close on timing. So we'd anticipate during the the next regular council meeting to add that. Travis, I don't know if you've had comments. Yeah, with the old ordinance, the time frame to be able to put up your political signs, I believe was September 4th, something right around there. So that's like two weeks. So I definitely think that we can revise the sign ordinance to be able to have that back before you before the end of the election, so that we have all of these as of right now. Um, even if we got this back to you next week, um, the ability to put the signs up would have started with the old code, but by November we can have that back to you with the time frames of putting them up and taking them down back into that. So yeah, this would give me and Adam time to put that together. And and I definitely believe that we can have that back before you before the end of the election cycle, so that we're back to how it was before. That sounds good. As long as after the elections it's done, but do we make an announcement right now to all of the candidates that they want to start putting up their signs now?
