The Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners met on July 16, 2025, beginning at 9:30 AM in the Commission Chambers. The agenda included a special presentation to rapper Flo Rida (key to the county), setting of proposed millage rates for FY 2025-26, extensive debate on solid waste management and waste-to-energy (WTE) facility siting, a deferred decision on a proposed employee health care contract switch, and numerous consent items, public hearings, and resolutions. The meeting lasted into the evening, with several votes and directives.
Please take your seat, guys. Commissioner. Guys in the back, quiet down in the back. Madam Mayor, you want to come down here? All right, guys, quiet down. Let's get started. All right, so do we got a few presentations, or we got one? We got one, one real one real big one. I don't know that it was last minute. Well, it's it's been in the works. It's been in the works. It's just, you know, our man floor rider's a busy man, so Madam Mayor. All right. I I think it's and I want to thank Commissioner Gilbert for bringing this uh presentation today and this honor. I mean, having someone from our own backyard born and raised here in Florida. Get it? Does everybody get that? All right. Um, it's it's it's an honor to have people, and we have we have many, but Flow Rider has I remember, and everybody has a story, right? And and and I'm gonna be that guy that shares a story, but I remember where I was when I first started jamming out to the to the to the number one hit for I think over a month, right? I think it was number one hit in the US for well over a month, uh, which is a big deal in the music industry. That's not that's not something taken lightly. So kind of a round of applause for that because that is a big deal. Um but but and everybody probably, you know, some of you all may be jamming to that in the club. I don't know. I I yeah, you don't go to clubs, right? You never you never been to a club. Um Deacon McGee. Pastor McGee. Um, but but I I remember it was what, like oh eight, oh nine, uh eight, maybe, and I was I was working in real estate me and my partner every time we go to a listing uh appointment to to close a deal, that was our hype song. Like that was a song we would get hyped to in the car, blasted that we couldn't even hear each other talk just to get hyped up before we would walk through those doors to close that deal, uh, and and then ultimately bring in that money, right? Uh but thank you, Flow Rider, for for being here for accepting this this we I as I told you earlier when I saw you in the hallway walking, is we we don't do this lightly, we don't give this away to just anybody. Uh it is it is something that we take and we kind of like hog uh and and select very carefully uh who gets this honor and who receives this uh this great uh key. So uh congratulations, my man. Appreciate it. And with that, Commissioner. Thank you, Mr. Chairman, thank you, Madam Mayor to my colleagues for being here, Flow Rider Freezy, uh Martin Your Mom, thank you all for being here. I'll start with a Flow Rider story, and it has nothing to do with him, like literally nothing to do with him. I'm I'm I'm in India, not Indiana, India. And on I've been on this tour in India, and this guy's been driving us around, and it's been a struggle with this guy because he doesn't speak any English, and I speak less Indian. I we I just we we we were having problems communicating, and so one day I said, Can I plug my phone in? And I plugged my phone in, and the first song that came up was my house. This guy who spoke no English started singing Welcome to My House. It was amazing, but it was a testament to how a young kid from from Carrol City from Miami Gardens, who might not have never seen or met that this young tour guide in the back roads of India had truly affected the world. You you know it it's it's not the hundreds of millions of streams and that that that's that's wonderful. But when the chairman said that we don't give this out lightly, I don't give it out lightly, especially. I'm very particular because in this community that I love, there are a lot of people doing wonderful things that benefit them. I bring people here and I give them keys to the county when they're benefiting them, they're a testament to where they're from, and they're actually helping others, and I think that's important. And so, you know, get low is is a wonderful song.
