A full-day meeting of the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners on October 9, 2025, addressed a wide range of issues including special presentations, public hearings, and major policy discussions. The most significant debates centered on the Port Miami fuel supply crisis, a water surcharge ordinance affecting municipal utilities, and the rejection of bids for an airport operations center. Several ceremonial items were also approved, including renaming the North Dade Justice Center after Harvey Ruvin.
Oh, Mikey. You good? Breast cancer awareness, I could tell. There's pink everywhere. It's beautiful. It's a wave of pink. We even have like garbage pink. Like former director here. All right, so we are going to start. We have we have several procs today. We are going to start with our honoring our Miami Dade Fire Rescue Urban Search, which I understand is here. Yep, I see them all around. Actually, they're not acting like a unit right now. They're scattered around, which is good. Um, but I will turn it over to my colleague and esteemed friend, Commissioner Steinberg. Thank you. Good morning. Just a little background. On July fourth, twenty twenty five, Central Texas experienced catastrophic flooding, leading to major devastation and the tragic loss of many lives. At the request of the state of Texas and our government, Florida Tech Task Force One, part of Miami Dade Fire Rescue was deployed to assist in rescue and recovery efforts. Working alongside teams from Nebraska, Colorado, Texas, their efforts helped bring closure to grieving families. Additional Florida TF 1 personnel served in key leadership roles with the FEMA Blue Incident Support Team, supporting local command and helping coordinate large scale search and rescue operations. And unfortunately, the surfside collapse. With over 220 highly trained members with specialized technical rescue, medical care, logistics, and canine search, we thank you. So as part of Miami Date's fire rescue, Florida TF 1 remains always ready and proud to serve. And with that, I'd like to call you up so we can present you with a special acknowledgement and a proclamation, Chief. And of course, my colleagues, I'm sure, would like to say a few words. And of course, the Knines. We can't forget the specialty K9s who are trained for highly emotional and and and they came to play. All right. That was this mayor. Well, uh, maybe maybe they remember me from Surfside, where we bonded. And that's really what I want to say today to reflect. I have had the incredible opportunity, really a blessing to see you in action. It is just earth shattering what you do. You do it with a passion with a dedication that is far beyond the job that you have accepted. It's a calling. I've seen you when we forced you to take a break. I've seen you when you've confronted personal demons in the midst of the search at Surfside. I've seen you take off to tragedy wherever we find it, certainly in this state, the country, and in the world. I'm I'm so very grateful to each of you individually and to collectively what you do and the spirit that you bring to the work because you do inspire so many. And to our chief, thank you, Chief. You've done an amazing job making sure they have what they need, and we are here for you forever. And I'm so grateful that we could take this opportunity to acknowledge your your bravery. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you, Madam Mayor, for those words. And I just want to echo those words that the mayor just said. Thank you guys for everything you do, not just for us, but for the entire state, the entire country, because whenever there is an urgency, an emergency, uh, you guys are the first ones to pack up your bags, leave your families behind, and get out there and help.
