The Public Works Committee convened on July 22, 2026, at 9:22 AM in City Hall Room 301-B, chaired by Ald. Milele A. Coggs. The committee considered 20 agenda items, including public improvement projects, traffic calming measures, a native plants ordinance, electric vehicle charging stations, a port parcel negotiation, an internship program, a sewer fund review, a rate case discussion with We Energies, urban wood management, and a taxi license renewal. All votes were 5-0 unless noted.
Good morning. I like to call this meeting to order. I am ordered woman chairwoman Melila A. Cox, we are joined. We will be joined shortly to my right by Ottoman Lamont West Morland. Also to the right, we are joined by Otterman Bauman, as well as DPW infrastructure. Um to the left, we are joined by Miss Carmen Roman staff assistant. To her left, we are joined by Otterman Alex Brouwer to his left, we are joined by Alder Woman Larissa Tyler. We um so that's the committee, but we do have other um auditors who are sitting with us, Alder Woman, Joe Casa Zamaripa and Otterman, uh Peter Um Bergelis are also on with us today. Um before we begin, I do want to say apologies to those who may be here for item eight. Um there was a error on our part about what district um this was in. Um, in all fairness, since it does involve a denial. Um we just figured out it's actually in my district. In all fairness, I want the opportunity to speak with the applicant um before we hear a file for denial um here today. So I want the applicant for item number eight um to know that we'll be holding that today. Yeah. And I will be in touch because I do want to talk privately with you before I schedule it again. Uh first, um, item number one, file number two six zero four three eight resolution relating to approving the levying of assessments and construction of accessible public improvement projects at various locations and appropriating funds for these purposes. Good morning, Holly Rutten back with DPW. I will be advising on the special assessment process and project details. For those projects approved this morning, a bill will be sent to each property owner sometime after completion of the work. Within 45 days upon receipt of the bill, the full amount may be paid without interest. If the bill is not paid within the forty-five-day grace period of charge of eight point five percent simple interest per year will be added. If the assessment is at least a hundred and twenty-five dollars, the assessment can be paid over a period of ten years on the tax roll at eight point five percent interest. For those projects approved with late billing, a bill will not be sent before January first, two thousand twenty-eight. Is there anyone here to provide testimony on this item? Continuing the Fifth Alderman A district, West Land Glade Street from North 110th Street to North 112th Street, install traffic calming speed humps. Is there anyone here to provide testimony on this item? Out of 19 impacted properties, 16 were in favor and three were opposed. The motion by Otterman Westmoreland is for adoption. Are there any objections to that motion? Hearing non so ordered. In the 7th Aldermanic District, North 38th Street from West Keith Avenue to West Capitol Drive, concrete pavement reconstruction and asphalt pavement resurfacing, replace curb and gutter, sidewalk and driveway approaches where necessary. Sodding, eight foot with tree border area grading and tree removal where necessary. Out of 102 impacted properties, only five were opposed. The alderman supports the project. The motion by Alderman Bauman is for adoption. Are there any objections to that motion? Hearing not so order in the 9th Aldermanic district, West Green Tree Road from North 51st Street to North 60th Street, install traffic calming speed humps. Out of 43 impacted properties, only four were opposed. Oh great. Just a quick question about that one, if that's okay.
