Proclamation, November 2024, National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Month, whereas homelessness knows no age, sex, creed, or race, and does not discriminate.

And whereas the City of Myanmar recognizes that homelessness continues to be a serious problem for many individuals and families in Broward County.

And whereas since 1999, the task force for ending homelessness inc has served the homeless population of Broward County, Florida.

And whereas November each year, the United States acknowledges National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Month.

And whereas the purpose of the proclamation is to educate the public about the many reasons people are homeless, including the shortage of affordable housing in Broward County.

And whereas to encourage the support of homeless service providers as well as create community service opportunities for residents, businesses, students, and service organizations.

And whereas it is our hope that all neighbors will help their neighbors in need in our community.

And whereas the intent of the National Hunger and Awareness Homeless Awareness Week is consistent with the activities of the task force for ending homelessness, Inc.

Whereas epilepsy is a brain disorder characterized by recurrent and unprovoked seizures that can affect anyone at any age, any time.

And whereas epilepsy is a spectrum disease comprised of many diagnoses, experiences, and includes a wide range of seizure types, comorbidities, control, severity, and outcomes varying from person to person.

And whereas epilepsy is the fourth most common neurological disorder, approximately 3.4 million people in the United States live with active epilepsy.

And whereas people with epilepsy need access to affordable, comprehensive, physician-directed, and person-centered health care.

And whereas 426,000 Floridians live with epilepsy, including 88,000 children in Florida, and greater education and improved access to care is needed in schools, which can be accomplished by passing a seizure safe schools legislation nationwide.

And whereas, while protections exist in American with Diabetes Disabilities Act and related civil rights laws, people with epilepsy still encounter discrimination in area including employment, education, and housing.

And whereas Epilepsy Awareness Month is a nationwide effort in November of the Epilepsy Foundation and Epilepsy Alliance Florida to raise awareness about the changes to the conversation around epilepsy, seizures and side effects, as well as to improve and save lives through care, advocacy, research, and new therapies, and public health and education.

And whereas through action together on Epilepsy Awareness Month and during other awareness initiatives, including International Epilepsy Day, Epilepsy Awareness Day, and Brain Awareness Week, and any day of the year, it is important to increase public knowledge about epilepsies and seizures, first aid and change the way people think about epilepsy and seizures.
