Authorized the sale of property located at 305 Dearborn Street North and vacant land located on Lyons Street, not now needed for public or municipal purposes.

It's about a little bit more than a half acre that is right behind the old uh funeral home where Mamga has bought and purchased that funeral home with the intent of restoring and redeveloping that block.

Uh I believe that is between Warren and MLK, uh, right across from Stone Street and right across from Heart of Mary's.

Um that piece of property is relatively really, really, really small, and it's already surrounded by other properties that are owned, I believe, by Mamga and also the uh the gas station property.

The second piece though, however, that we're trying to sell in this is a piece that the YMCA constantly uses every day.

Uh if you go by there during the day, and I'm fortunate enough to be up there quite a bit because of some other work that's going on, you'll see where the Y is pushing those kids around that track and those little red push carts and using it every day for the benefit of the facility.

And also they have vehicles that they use that they're also parking and using that lot on.

Uh, I don't see how or why we would be uh selling the piece of property to another entity uh that we don't even have a that I don't I haven't even seen a plan on or know what their intended use is or know what the future is gonna be, but I do know that it's benefiting the why, which is benefiting underserved kids and under from underserved communities right now.

Uh I'm really not in favor of moving forward with this until there's a clear path forward that where we're not unintentionally harming the why.

And I think I've said this the first time that we tried to move forward with the deal on on this property.

I mean, we've got to be very cognitive or cognizant of the fact that they operate more or less as a nonprofit.

They have very few revenue, seriously, revenue gainful generating uh programs going on over there.

And if anything that we do to harm or offset the the programs that they have that are benefiting the kids, I think it would be harmful to the community.

So uh I would suggest that until I'm suggesting to the council until I know or we know or we see what the plan is uh to deal with the the property from the Y and how it affects them and what Mamga is actually trying to do with the property that we either table this or we hold it over for a sufficient time until we the council know what the plan is.

And I like I said, I don't know what kind of plan or what the plan is or anything over there.

And I I'm not in the I'm not don't want to be in the business of unintentionally hurting the YMCA.

What about is the property located at?

I mean, near the Y.

I mean, it's in the back the side.

Right behind Y.

If you come out of the east doors and you take right coming back down to Congress and you go uh west on Congress, it's right behind the Y.

It's fenced in, matter of fact.

It's actually fenced, the track is fenced in.

And uh I they're using it.

So I just don't understand why we as the city would be selling something where it is a beneficial use to the organization and what they're doing right now.

So the track is it only used for the little go-kart thing, or they use it for monthly other purposes.

Well, I also see uh seniors out there, I also see staff out there using it.

I see other people uh using it and walking also.

So I mean, I I there's a it serves a useful purpose to the facility and to the YMCA.

So, you know, I don't know again what our intent is, what our plan is, or what Mamga's intent or plan is, but the biggest thing right now is that it's serving a beneficial use to kids that are coming from an underserved community.
