The Finance and Taxation Committee met on August 24, 2026, at 5:00 PM in City Hall Council Chambers. The committee considered and unanimously approved funding for a fire department training facility wood structure staining project.

Open business C1 discussion and possible approval of the fire department's training facility wood structure staining project. Good afternoon. The department out to the training facility has a number of wood structures. Three of those structures, one of them being the uh the shelter house, uh rehab house, um, and then two of them are training training uh props. One is referred to as a splash tower, it's used for ladder training and and rescue training, and another one is the old climbing wall that's been converted into a uh a basement prop. Uh they're all made out of wood and showing uh some are showing some wear and tear, others have had a number of uh boards and stuff replaced uh through the uh maintenance planning that we've been doing. Uh all of them need to be stained and and sealed to help protect them and extend their extend their life. So went out for uh quotes to have that work done. Um contacted three different uh uh local contractors. One was unable to do the work uh through this year, he said, and another one did not get back to me, and then a third one copeline painting, uh provided me with uh the quotes that you have copies of. There was 30,000 in the capital budget for these projects, um and uh these all came in well under that. Um so uh I'm asking the committee for approval to uh approve these uh these quotes for in the amount of sixteen thousand two hundred and fifteen dollars for the work to be completed this fall. I think that general maintenance makes sense, and um I would be willing to vote for that or make a motion to carry this forward for the amount of sixteen thousand two hundred and fifteen dollars.
