10:32

A lot of people don't fully understand all that goes into to running our elections in Montgomery County.

10:37

So before we move to a vote, I just want to thank thank you.

10:40

Thank you.

10:41

I'll just add one quick thing, which Frank, I think you said the statute says that I think you said the statute says that you have to quote rest for five days.

10:50

Is that correct?

10:51

Yes.

10:51

Did you did you rest?

10:53

A little bit.

10:54

It caught my breath, you know.

10:56

It's uh as Commissioner Weiner mentioned, uh, there's a lot of behind the scenes uh efforts, and we're just fortunate we have a great team downstairs.

11:05

Uh so it's it's always a pleasure.

11:07

Yeah.

11:07

Awesome.

11:08

You do have a great team.

11:09

So thanks for all that you do.

11:10

I'd like to get five days rest.

11:13

So how do we work that into um so we'll come to a vote?

11:18

Uh all in favor.

11:19

All right.

11:20

Aye.

11:20

Uh motion carries.

11:22

Any closing board comments?

11:25

Um, just if you want five-day risk, just you need to be COO of the county.

11:29

Yeah.

11:33

Um, two quick comments.

11:35

One is, you know, Frank, as always, you did a great job, always accessible, dealing with the issues that popped up.

11:42

Um, so thank you for that.

11:44

I think I moving forward, I I want to recommend that um I think that we should have some type of on the website, some kind of like schedule, high-level schedule published so that we're working our way through so people because they don't understand uh the entire election process.

12:07

Um so in the in a loop when there's no information coming out, it makes it look like nothing's happening.

12:15

And um, I think if we had a schedule and at very high level, like here's the major milestones, right?

Montgomery County Election Board Meeting – June 8, 2026

The Montgomery County Election Board met on June 8, 2026, at 3:23 PM UTC. The board certified the results of the May 19, 2026 primary election after the mandatory five-day waiting period, with no recount petitions filed. Commissioners also discussed improving public communication about election processes and acknowledged issues with the new e-poll books deployed during the primary.

Discussion Items

  • Certification of the 2026 Primary Election: Frank Dean, representing the elections staff, reported that the primary was closed on June 2, 2026, the first signing was completed the same day, and the five-day period ended without any recount petitions. He requested board certification of the results.
  • Public Education and Transparency: Commissioner DeBello recommended publishing a high-level schedule of election milestones on the county website to reduce public misconceptions and inquiries about the process. He noted that many people believe the county is not following the same schedule as other Pennsylvania counties, which is inaccurate. He suggested listing milestones (e.g., military ballot deadline, first signing, certification) and updating their status.
  • E-Poll Book Issues: Commissioner DeBello acknowledged that the board is aware of problems experienced with the first major rollout of e-poll books (about 900 units) on election day. He stated that the county is investigating root causes and will address the issues moving forward.
  • Webinar Proposal: Commissioner Weiner supported the idea of education and suggested a non-political webinar or expanded outreach to help constituents understand county election operations, especially in close races like the 148th district.

Key Outcomes

  • Motion to Certify: The board unanimously approved a motion to certify the results of the May 19, 2026 primary election. The motion was made by Commissioner (not identified in transcript) and seconded by Commissioner DeBello. All three members voted in favor, and the motion carried.
  • Next Steps: Frank Dean agreed to develop a public schedule of election milestones. Commissioners agreed to further discuss e-poll book issues and explore educational initiatives such as a webinar before the general election.
  • Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned following a motion and second.
