5:04

Okay.

5:04

Do you want me to listen to the recording and change it?

5:07

Yes, but I'm wrong, I mean, but I think we had quite a bit of discussion on that work.

5:16

So no, I did, but then I know we I remember we did, but then I think we we agreed to the changes, and then we made a motion.

5:24

What I would say, but I'll read all of them the recording.

5:27

My record we like as amended so that there was a little more deep to the the motion.

5:33

That's my recollection.

5:35

Okay.

5:35

I also don't have my own.

5:41

Oh, sorry.

5:43

Well, I have let's see what I have.

5:49

I took no it's gonna work again.

5:52

Good news is I still kept them.

5:54

I didn't ask them.

5:55

So hopefully I just I mean, I just would want the last one to uh we'll just look at the recording.

6:06

Yeah, that's the most accurate way to do it.

6:17

So I I don't move for okay.

6:23

So look the so there's a motion to do we put this on next month's agenda.

6:29

Yeah, so we're tabling the approval of the moment okay.

7:01

So we're tabling 3.1.

7:03

So let's move along to item four oral communications from the public.

7:09

This portion of the meeting is reserved for persons wishing to address the committee on any matter not on the agenda.

7:16

Speakers are limited to three minutes.

7:19

State law prohibits the committee from acting on non-agenda items.

7:23

Do we have any members of the public?

7:27

No, okay.

7:30

Uh moving on to five to new business 5.1 review and approve resident company questions recommendation the committee will review and approve resident company questions and then attachments wrap resident agenda questions.

8:02

Probably and we can go section by section.

8:05

Section by section is awesome.

8:06

Thank you.

8:07

Okay, so um first is programming.

8:11

Question one is are there any current or upcoming changes in programming direction that we you would like to share with the committee?

8:18

What recent advances have your programs achieved, and what setbacks did you encounter?

8:24

What structural changes are you implementing to evolve your programming and enhance audience engagement?

8:35

I had a thought on number one uh in programming direction.

8:41

Should we include education or outreach?

8:52

Any singing instead of just focusing on programming direction, should we also ask about the outreach?

9:00

Can you let's cover collaboration?

9:06

That's true.

9:08

I made these notes at home as I was reading through it before I finished the whole thing.

9:15

Thank you.

9:20

But I did have a thought as well.

9:22

Um this ongoing info when we talked about this a little bit before and the last set of resident company presentations.

9:30

One of the some of the feedback I recall hearing from the committee is some people did the things out of order um in their presentations.

9:41

I don't know if that can just be like an attachment of like someone from Mount View City saying please do it in order as a the jumping around for I can't remember which company makes it hard to follow.

9:52

Made it hard to follow.

9:53

Uh-huh.

9:53

Like where, like, oh, suddenly they're talking about financial, but not now we're back to programming, and so kind of where makes um I think also with the please answer questions as they apply.

10:05

Um sound like you can give questions, and is that our intent that they can get questioned?

10:13

Or do we want them to answer all the questions to the best of your ability?

10:20

Yes, that would be because it'd be fair to other sentences, right?

10:27

And they could say this doesn't apply.

10:30

Yeah, question one B doesn't apply or something of some sort, but uh that would be it when I read that intro, it's like sounds like I know we're not trying to ask people to be perfect, but it kind of like maybe don't feel like you don't have a good answer, you could also just skip the question, maybe well, I think part of the reason that this is the way it is, which I mean we're free to change, is that the there's a big differences between the resident companies that we have.

11:11

And so the teen theat theater company is you know, a small operation.

11:19

Maybe this doesn't all apply to them.

11:22

But um I like your point that as they apply also sort of gives tacit approval to skip things if you don't want to answer, right?

The committee met to review and approve resident company annual presentation questions, receive a fiscal year 2025 attendance update, form an ad hoc committee for Make Music Day, and discuss staff updates including stage floor replacement and dumpster renovations. All decisions were made unanimously where votes occurred.

Public Comments & Testimony

  • No members of the public addressed the committee during the oral communications period or during discussion items.

Discussion Items

  • Minutes Approval (Item 3.1): Committee members noted discrepancies in the wording of the motion from the June 24, 2026 meeting minutes. They decided to table approval and review the recording to capture the exact motion wording.
  • Review and Approve Resident Company Questions (Item 5.1): The committee made several amendments to the questions for annual resident company presentations. Changes included: adding an introductory paragraph requiring companies to answer all questions in order, acknowledge if not applicable, and answer to the best of their ability; modifying Programming question 2 to include "What did you learn from your setbacks?"; adding "approximate percentage breakdown of demographics" to Marketing question 1; rewriting Collaboration question 3 from "How are you collaborating with the Mountain View community?" to "How are you currently developing partnerships with local Mountain View businesses?" with a follow-up "If not, how are you planning to?"; and clarifying Financial question 1 from "How do you ensure your revenue your expenses?" to "What strategies do you use to ensure your revenues match or exceed your expenses?" The committee approved the questions as amended unanimously.
  • Fiscal Year 2025 Final Attendance Update (Item 5.2): Performing Arts Manager Teresa Ivan presented quarterly attendance data for FY 2025–2026. However, the report contained errors (tickets sold vs. attended numbers were misaligned). She noted that overall production numbers appeared to be up, with many new clients and a recent sold-out Korean comedian show on main stage within one hour of going on sale. She will bring a corrected report to the next meeting.
  • Form Ad Hoc Committee for Make Music Day (Item 5.3): The committee discussed forming a two-person ad hoc committee to explore feasibility of participating in Make Music Day. Chair Donahue volunteered but noted his term ends in December. A motion passed to appoint members Bargois and Donahue to the ad hoc committee, with member Crone to replace Donahue if the exploration extends past his term.
  • Staff Announcements and Updates (Item 6): Teresa Ivan announced a tour of the Lesher Center in Walnut Creek on September 12, 2026. She provided updates on the main stage floor replacement (plywood and Masonite, completion expected that week with painting to follow) and upcoming dumpster renovations at the back of the building due to development of the old World Bargo site. The committee discussed the possibility of receiving quarterly previews of upcoming productions; staff will consider this.

Key Outcomes

  • Approval of the June 24, 2026 meeting minutes was tabled pending review of the recording.
  • The resident company annual presentation questions were approved unanimously as amended.
  • An ad hoc committee for Make Music Day was formed with members Bargois and Donahue (and Crone as alternate).
  • Attendance data will be revised and presented again at the next meeting.
  • Staff will consider providing quarterly previews of upcoming shows.
