Good, how are you?

We're doing all right.

Uh June first, twenty twenty-six, uh City of Napa City Council regular meeting, and call that meeting to order, this meeting to order.

And our invitation tonight is Pastor Gabriel Render, if you'll stand with us for the invocation and the pledge of allegiance.

Ladies and gentlemen, pray with me.

Father, we've come before you this evening, recognizing that if we do not have you build the house, we labor in vain that seek to build it ourselves.

So Lord, I pray this evening that the uh proceedings would do uh just that, that they would proceed with wisdom as they recognize that you have called them to more than simply running a city to simply managing the resources entrusted to them by the people and the citizens of our of our town.

Well, Lord, that you've called them actually to a holy work.

You call them your deacons, just as you would an officer of our own churches.

So God, I pray that they would take this mantle with uh responsibility and with heaviness and with the burden that they bear, that they would seek to put their hand to the plow and to do rightly by their people, that they would seek not their own gain but seek the gain of their people, that they would invest wisely the talents that have been entrusted to them.

Lord, we know that if righteousness will exalt a nation, but that sin is a reproach to any nation.

So Lord, I pray that we would be here in Nampa, a people who are moral and upright before you.

Lord, again, I call these men and women and I charge them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit to execute justice, to walk wisely and not haughty and arrogantly.

Lord, that they would have equal weights and equal measures in applying our constitution and our laws rightly before you, that they would uphold justice, that they would promote the good, and that they'd be a terror to evil.

So, Lord, we pray in your name this evening that these proceedings would go forth in just that manner, that these men and women would bear that responsibility with humility, that they would hear the needs of their people well with open ears, that they'd be slow to speak, quick to hear, knowing that frustration and anger do not produce the righteousness of God, but rather with meek and gentleness, I pray that they would seek your word and receive it, the implanted word which is able to save and promote life.

Lord, I pray for the city of Nampa that we would be a city that is an example in a city on the hill to the rest of our state, that we'd be a city among cities that leads its people well, cares for the needs of our community well, and that we'd be a place that would continue to thrive and stand against wickedness and perversion.

Lord, I pray that this city would do what's right with restraining evil in all its forms in all its ways, even when others fall short and make excuses.

So I pray for the men and women of this council and for every other servant of this city that they would take their responsibility well, that they would deal with it with the severity that it requires.

And Lord, that the proceedings of this meeting would honor you, that even in the discussion of budgets and and policies, that we would give you due glory because we know that there is no such thing as an amoral law.

All laws will promote the good or promote the evil.

So, Lord, may we be a city that promotes good.

We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ.

Well, tonight we uh are reading a proclamation uh referencing Elder Abuse Awareness Month.

And so from the office of the mayor, whereas older adults deserve to be treated with respect and dignity to enable them to serve as leaders, mentors, volunteers, and vital participating members of our communities.

And whereas in 2006, the International Network for Prevention of Elder Abuse in support of the United Nations International Plan of Action proclaimed a day to recognize the significance of elder abuse as a public health and human rights issue.

And whereas the city of Nampa and the Nampa Family Justice Center recognize the importance of taking action to raise awareness, prevent and prevent and address elder abuse.

And whereas 2026 marks the 20th annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, it rec its recognition will promote a better understanding of abuse and neglect of older adults.

And whereas our population lives longer, we are presented with an opportunity to think about our collective needs and future as a nation.

And whereas ageism and social isolation are major causes of elder abuse in the United States, and whereas recognizing that it is up to all of us to ensure that proper social structures exist so people can retain community and social connections, reducing the likelihood of abuse.

And whereas preventing abuse of older adults through maintaining and improving social supports like senior centers, human services, and transportation will allow everyone to continue to live as independently as possible and contribute to the life and vibrancy of our communities.

Now, therefore, I David Bills, Council President of the City of Napa, Idaho, do hereby proclaim June 26th, 2026 to be Elder Abuse Awareness Month.
