Tonight we are here to honor the McGavic High School Wrestling Team with a proclamation.

Uh, we had a very successful season uh that involves one state champion uh from District 14.

Uh, and I've got my colleagues from Donaldson Hermanage Old Hickory with me that are gonna help me with this.

Whereas the McGavic High School Wrestling Team participated in the 2024 State Wrestling Championship and demonstrated outstanding dedication, skill, and discipline throughout the season.

And whereas 11th grader Hale Cox, a star in the 132-pound category, showed exceptional talent with a record of 29 and one.

And whereas Addison Brown, Khalise Dansby, Matty Allen, Bailey Garrett, Halai Cox, Selena Rodriguez, Dakota Butler, and Alaye McGelli worked together to achieve an impressive 11-4 record.

The team secured a third place finish at the girls' regional duels and qualified three athletes to the state tournament with two placing.

Halala Cox first and Ala McGelli, sixth, and whereas Emmanuel Sonic Claybrooks, Isaiah Calvin, Xavier Cox, Matheus Zulk Volkhart, and Eli Sumler also showcased remarkable talent and determination this season.

They earned a district runner-up position and qualified five athletes to both the sectionals and state tournaments with Emmanuel Claybrooks placing fifth, Xavier Cox sixth, and Mathuse Volkhart sixth.

And whereas the team was coached by Paul Douglas and assistant coaches Zach James Brown, Zach Hicks, and Lisa Jones.

Due to the hard work of the girls' team, assistant coach James Brown was voted TAASAA Girls Section 3 Assistant Coach of the Year and Whereas overall Metro Nashville Public Schools had a total of 10 medalists, and five of those were athletes from the McGavic High School team.

It is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council commends the dedication, perseverance, and sportsmanship exhibited exhibited by these exceptional young athletes.
