The Board of Public Works and Safety held its regular meeting on April 21, 2026. Silver Creek Drive Signage: Larry (city official) reported that a dead end sign exists but a resident had placed a small no turnaround sign. He recommended replacing the dead end sign with a no outlet sign and installing a larger no turnaround sign. The board discussed that the resident (Miss Patty) had removed stones and flower rods from the right-of-way to await the board's decision. The board approved the updated signage (no outlet and larger no turnaround sign) and denied the request for any placement in the city's right-of-way, but allowed her to place items on her own property.
Permit for Event – Original Venue Conflict: A permit request for an event on June 7 had been made. City officials noted that construction on the originally requested site would still be ongoing, making it unsafe. The board recommended offering the event organizer the option to move to Market Street with a soft closure at Third and full closure at the alley, but only as a one-time exception. The board also required the organizer to confirm with Copier Mark and Wolf Class that they are closed that day. This item was not voted on but referred to the organizer.
Residential Parking Spaces:
Ravens Roost Concert Permit: Christine presented a request from Ravens Roost to host a concert (Move with Purpose) at the amphitheater on Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 2–6 p.m. (setup noon–7 p.m.). They will collect non-perishable foods for a veterans organization, have volunteers for cleanup, and request a rain date of August 15. The board approved with the condition that all trash be removed.
Easement for Center Point Energy: An easement between the City and Center Point Energy for a gas line along St. Joseph Road right-of-way was presented. It covers a section of right-of-way that may be returned to property owners. Reviewed by legal. Approved.
Mount Tabor Road Paving Update: Larry reported that all terrain work is on track to complete by the end of the week, with paving work anticipated to begin in early May pending paperwork.
Alley Closure for Tank Removal: A request to close the southern end of the alley behind 2017 on May 6, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., for tank removal. No impact to businesses. Approved.
Emergency Repairs – Center Point Energy: Formal approval of emergency gas service repairs at 331 Jackson Street and replacement of a test station at 114 East Main Street. Approved.
