New Albany, Indiana Board of Public Works and Safety Meeting – May 26, 2026
New Albany, Indiana Board of Public Works and Safety Meeting – May 26, 2026
The Board of Public Works and Safety met on May 26, 2026, at 15:15 UTC. The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance and sign-in. The board considered a curb-cut request for a proposed flex/warehouse development, approved street-cut and sidewalk-closure permits, accepted financial claims, and received departmental updates.
Site Development and Curb-Cut Request
- Nathan Grams of Renaissance Design, accompanied by Nick Woodcox, presented a request for a client's nearly two-acre empty lot at the corner of Security Parkway and Foundation Boulevard in the industrial park.
- The proposal calls for flex/warehouse-type buildings with office and storage space for small trades, with two 24-foot-wide entrances: one on Security Parkway about 140 feet from the intersection and one on Foundation Boulevard about 270 feet back for site circulation.
- Grams said the development plan had been through the Plan Commission, which returned a list of requirements; the plan was accepted based on those requirements, and curb-cut approval from the Board of Works was still required.
- Board discussion centered on whether the Security Parkway entrance should align with the existing driveway across the street, balancing roadway access management against circulation on the site. City Engineer Larry said he would review the configuration and consult with planning and zoning staff.
- Cheryl moved to take the request under advisement until the city engineer could make a recommendation by the following Tuesday; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote.
Departmental Updates
- City Engineer Larry reported no formal report, but informed the board that notices would go to Mount Tabor Road residents that day, with milling scheduled for Friday from west of Clarker Lane to Charlestown Road; paving would likely follow the next week. A board member asked about a utility cut in a previously paved section, and Larry said he would check who made the cut.
- A city official noted that sanitation was running one day behind because of the Memorial Day holiday and would work Saturday to collect Friday's routes. Concerts were expected to begin Friday, weather permitting.
Permits and Approvals
- The board approved a street-cut permit for Millennium Builders to build five houses on Division Street at the dead end; the work requires three sanitary sewer cuts in the road, and the road is to be repaved after utility work.
- The board approved a sidewalk closure in front of 225 Cherry Street for three days starting the next day for house demolition. Steel plates are to be used during working hours and removed after hours.
- Under the agenda item 'Approval amendments,' the board approved an amendment, including correcting a reference from 'Rough' to 'Ruck' (R-U-C-K).
Financial Items
- Bank reconciliation worksheets for March were provided by Ms. Molly and, at her request, were noted in the minutes.
- Claims dated May 12–25, 2026 totaling $2,211,840.74 were approved.
- A second claim for the same date range totaling $5,559 was approved.
Key Outcomes
- The curb-cut request was taken under advisement pending the city engineer's review and a recommendation for the next meeting.
- The Division Street street-cut permit was approved with the understanding that the road would be repaved after utility finishes.
- The Cherry Street sidewalk closure was approved for three days.
- The March bank reconciliation and both claims were approved.
- The board approved the corrections under 'Approval amendments' and adjourned.
All votes were by voice vote, with no opposition noted on any motion.

Yeah, it's whatever it's in the plan. So I know that she'll use some. I don't remember anything else. That's what I had not there for the colour. Yeah, it's 24. The old Hatachi Place. We've talked about it. So keep calling us somebody else is trying to get it. Whoever's in there now and they say whoever systems sell in the building, I guess try and tell them they got to fix it. But you gotta change the hands here. I said the pictures of insurance separate. I don't think she will create the option of staying on your insurance if she wanted to. I don't think you're required to switch just because you can make some form. Yeah. Something at the testing of both ways. But you didn't see the dental. Especially in a case like that. That's a pharmacy. Everybody's doing it. Yeah. Good morning, Carlo. May 26th, 2026 meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety will begin with the Planetable Agents. Sign in and well, how long you now. Nathan Grimes. Yes, sir. It's Nathan Grams with Renaissance Design Bill here with Nick Woodcox. And uh we're trying to get uh at the corner of security parkway and foundation boulevard and industrial park is uh empty a lot. Uh about a two-acre lot, not quite two acres, and uh our client wants to build a couple of flex building type warehouse type structures on there. So we're requesting a uh before you is the site development plan layout, and we were requesting a uh entrance on to security parkway, which is about a hundred and forty feet back from the intersection of security and foundation boulevard, and also entrance on Foundation Boulevard for circulation purposes, and that's about 270 feet back from the intersection. So these are both 24 foot wide to you know in in and out entrances and uh we'll have a a cover underneath them for drainage and pretty simple, but we're requesting these approval from the board of works for our client. And has it been to planning the zoning already? It is not we're we're in the process with been submitted, but we haven't gone to their we haven't got our development plan approved by them. But we want to like make the curve cuts, but more of the development plan. This is one of the things that they're requesting to have, though, is a curve cut approval from you guys. So do you know is this gonna go to the uh plan commission or BZA or was that this has been through the uh the the plan commission and we they they send back a list of requirements of what we needed uh it was accepted based on these requirements that we fulfilled. So I guess it's just staff review, I guess to answer your question.
