The Board of Public Works & Safety met on July 7, 2026, at 10:00 AM in New Albany City Hall. The board approved several permits, a paving traffic management plan, and street closures for vegetation control. All actions were unanimous.

1. Statewide Mortgage – Sidewalk and Parking Closure Request
- Levi Edwards of Statewide Mortgage requested revisions to a previously submitted permit for work at 306–310 Bank Street (originally listed as Market Street). The corrected request: close sidewalk and parking spaces on July 9–10 for softwashing the building, and close only the sidewalk on July 15–17 and July 20 for painting windows using a scissor lift. Work hours: 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Plywood plates will be placed over sidewalk for the lift. The lift will be stored in a locked breezeway when not in use. The board approved the amended request.
2. Paving Update – Traffic Management Plan
- City official Mickey Thompson reported that MAC Construction is expected to begin asphalt resurfacing and patching on St. Joseph Street between Alexis Drive and approximately 1100 feet from Alexis Drive (near the Cameron Miller intersection). Daytime work hours: 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Patching will also continue on Grant Line Road. Message boards will be placed at McDonald Lane and Vincent to notify traffic of delays and recommend Charlestown Road as an alternative. A traffic management plan (MOT) was presented, including flaggers at most locations except one where a center turn lane will be used. Work may take two to three days, weather permitting. The board approved the MOT.
3. CenterPoint Energy – Encroachment Permit
- Mickey Thompson (for CenterPoint Energy) requested an encroachment permit to retire gas service and install a new gas service at 1818 Conservative Street. A sidewalk panel will need to be removed. The board approved the permit.
4. Emergency Sewer Repair
- A city official reported an emergency sewer repair at 323 East Ninth Street (corner of Spring Street) due to an upcoming wedding party. The repair was completed immediately. The board ratified the emergency action.
5. Street Closures for Vegetation Control
- A commissioner requested closure of Old Vincennes Street from Westwood to Cherry Street on July 20 (8:00 AM to noon) for vegetation control, with rolling roadblocks on Captain Frank and Cherry Street Hill the same day. On July 21, Spring Street Hill will be closed for vegetation control. Signs will be posted. The board approved the closures.

We'll begin with the Pledge of Allegiance. Apply the allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. And to the remote, which is one nation under God. Wish to address the board here, not only extensives to sign in chief. Statewide mortgage. So the address on here was incorrect when it was submitted. It's actually 306 to 310 Bank Street, which is right there on the corner. And the sidewalk closed on the 9th and 10th to softwash that side of the building. So that's what we're going to see. So it's what backstreams at 16th, 17th, and 20th. Sidewalking and parking, and then 15th. The ninth and the tenth. So the the dates on here are also kind of messed up. Can you go over that one more time? Yes, ma'am. The ninth and the tenth. I need the sidewalk and the parking space is closed. And then the 15th through the 17th and the 20th, just the sidewalk to have a lift there to paint the windows. Thank you. So okay, so the agenda also says to paint the windows, but you're saying this is for softwash? And then painting on the fifteenth through the seventeenth, and then so the softwashing will be done the ninth and the tenth, and then the painting will take place the fifteenth through the seventeenth and the twentieth. No, that's how you wanted to close them both at the same time so they can do both both sides of the building. If weather's bad, how will that weigh into what you're gonna do? Do you have a backup plan? So yeah. If the weather doesn't cooperate, what's your backup plan? Just available day. Yeah. So you said you already did market. No, none of none of the work has been completed. So would we approve last week? That was uh just the front of the banks were, but it was for the front for the market street side. Yeah, so we're working on that today tomorrow. Contractor that's doing the work wants to do the market and bank at set time, so that's why I came back to this should have said uh Market Street, but bank street for the bank street side. That's where he's asking for the sidewalk and the parking club on the 9th and 10th for the saw doors and then 15th through the 20th. Just a sidewalk to hand paint no sprayer. So shouldn't be the older spray on caller. Okay. And then remind us of the hours you plan to work. Uh 7.30 to 5.30.
