The Newark Municipal Council convened at 12:30 PM in the Council Chamber at City Hall, with Council President LaMonica R. McIver presiding. All nine council members were present at the start. The meeting included public hearings on several ordinances, a lengthy public comment period, and votes on numerous resolutions. Notable discussions centered on a new intermodal container lot license, increased fines for truck parking, a 20-year tax abatement for a warehouse distribution center, and a retroactive 30-year tax abatement for a senior housing complex.
Good afternoon. Welcome to the regular meeting of the Newark Municipal Council on Wednesday, June fifth, twenty twenty-four. Please stand for the National Anthem, Pledge of Allegiance, an invocation by Pastor Gerald Lydell Dixon. Have you not known, have you not heard? Everlasting God. The Lord the creator of the ends of the earth. Neither faints nor is weary. He gives understanding and power and strength to the weak. And to those that have no might. Father, we thank you for this day that you have made. We thank you for moving and giving us motion into a new month. Now as we gather, we pray that you will guide this city and its leadership. Watch over the mayor and the council as they make decisions on the behalf of the citizens. We pray now that you will usher in grace. Grace for life, grace for living, grace for lifting, and grace for learning. Continue to protect us as we are on the precipice of another summer. We ask that you would bless us with good health and as we make the decisions in the servitude position. We pray that these who have authority and sit in seats of decision making. Before we um before we get started into the agenda, um, Madam Clerk, I do want to take the amazing opportunity, which is always my favorite time of the month, I would say, where I get to host our amazing young people from our city. And today we have Central High School visiting with us today. We are so excited to have them. It's been an amazing morning with them as they've made their way around City Hall, and many have had the opportunity to speak with them. Um, as folks know, I graduated from Central High School, so today is definitely a uh great day to have these amazing young people here with us today. And it's actually our final uh council member for the day program um for the season as we're in the month of June, and we only host them during a day meeting. So thank you all for being here. Um, and hopefully you're having a good time and enjoy the pizza because I I have to miss that, unfortunately. But definitely uh thank you for being here.
