Northfield Environmental Quality Commission Meeting - April 15, 2026

The Environmental Quality Commission (EQC) met on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 7:28 PM in the City Council Chambers. Seven commissioners were present, one absent, along with staff and a voting youth representative. The meeting covered approvals, a report on the Carbon Reduction Fund, a presentation on interconnection processes, updates on the 2026-2027 work plan, and staff updates.

• Interconnection Process Presentation: Sustainability Coordinator Sara Pabich delivered a presentation on the interconnection process involving Xcel Energy, the Public Utilities Commission, and system coordination. Pabich responded to commissioner questions.
• 2026-2027 Work Plan Updates: Commissioners reported on subcommittee progress:
  • Energy Efficiency Education for Residents: Commissioner Petri will contact Rotary Climate Action.
  • Electric Vehicle Community Showcase: Vice Chair Hanson noted the City is in discussions with Recharge America for a September 2026 electric vehicle showcase event.

  • Waste Reduction Library Research: The subcommittee met, and Commissioner Haroldson met with Northfield Public Library staff to discuss a toy library.
  • Recycling and Compost Education Toolkit: Haroldson continues work on this initiative.
• Staff Updates: Sustainability Coordinator Sara Pabich provided updates from City staff and responded to questions.
