Town of North Hempstead Town Board Regular Meeting – June 9, 2026

The Town Board of North Hempstead met on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 10:00 AM. The board voted 7-0 on all agenda items: it continued three public hearings, adopted a resolution scheduling an unsafe-building hearing for 16 Pond Park Road, Great Neck, and approved the town's employment resolution. He said he had visited the location and agreed that a hazard exists, asserting that it was created by a homeowner's planting of Leland cypresses and questioning why taxpayers should compensate the owner. He suspected the trees are on the town right-of-way and argued the hazard determination should follow the town code's police-department process. He opposed adding more stop signs, saying fewer stop signs tend to increase compliance and that additional signs create a false sense of security, especially for children riding bikes in the neighborhood. He also cited a prior code-enforcement case on Vista Hill Road and Station Road in which the homeowner moved vegetation instead of requiring a stop sign.

Discussion Items

• Supervisor Jennifer DeSena responded to Mr. McDonough, stating that she disagreed with the view that stop signs are a hazard, that she sees many drivers stopping, and that she is not opposed to stop signs when safety warrants them.
• During the continuation discussion, the board considered continuing the Langdon Road hearing to July 14, 2026, but decided instead to continue it to the August 11, 2026, meeting because the July 14 evening calendar was already time-consuming.
