When I heard about the petition to name the street in honor of my son, I was so touched and deeply moved.

2:17

This is a tremendous honor and to bestow it upon such a young member of our North Hempstead community.

Wow, just what a statement.

2:25

But I couldn't imagine a more fitting gesture or a more deserving citizen.

Although Logan was only 10 years old when he passed away last June, the number of lives that he touched spread far beyond the reach of many adults.

Hawaii, San Diego, France.

But to Logan, home was always Essex Court.

Here he was the mayor of the cul-de-sac.

He said hi and greeted anyone who'd pass by kids, adults, animals, community helpers.

3:08

In fact, one of his favorite pastimes was simply sitting on our front porch and hanging out.

3:14

He could carry on a conversation with anyone and had a special way of making everyone he met feel very special and loved.

3:23

Logan endeared himself to everyone and lived just to give hugs and smiles unconditionally.

3:30

Our streets always been a very special one.

North Hempstead Town Board Meeting - September 15, 2026

The Town of North Hempstead Town Board met on September 15, 2026, with all council members present. The meeting began with public hearings and several continuations. Key actions included unanimous approvals of honorary street namings for Logan Coyle and Detective Alfred Boesch, a special use permit for a gas station redevelopment at 901 Hillside Avenue, and an ordinance restricting commercial trucks on I.U. Willets Road.

Honorary Street Naming: Logan Coyle Court (Item 6)

  • Public Comment: Rebecca Coyle, Logan's mother, spoke touchingly about her son's life, his battle with cancer, and the support of the community. She supported the designation.
  • Board Action: All council members voted unanimously to adopt the resolution designating a portion of Essex Court as "Logan Coyle Court".

Continuations

  • Item 1: Local law amending Port Washington Public Parking District – Continued to October 13, 2026 (legislation not received).
  • Item 2: Ordinance for Langdon Road stop signs – Continued without a date.
  • Item 3: Verizon Cable Franchise Agreement – Continued to November 10, 2026.

Special Use Permit: Bolla EM Realty LLC (Item 4)

  • Applicant Presentation: David Altman presented plans to rebuild the existing 62-year-old gas station at 901 Hillside Avenue to include a 1,250 sq ft convenience store, 10 fueling positions, no auto repair, and enhanced landscaping (annual landscaping budget of $5 million for company). The project represents a $4.5-5 million investment.
  • Board Questions: Council members inquired about canopy height, lighting (dark sky compliant), signage (reduced to 60.1 sq ft and 18 ft height), HVAC screening, and dumpster placement. The applicant confirmed no hot food preparation and 24-hour operation (existing).
  • Public Comment: Mr. McHugh (New Hyde Park) opposed 24-hour operation and expressed concerns about lighting, signage, and scale. He noted the station's size would be more like a throughway station. Planning commissioner noted concerns were addressed.
  • Board Action: Motion to close hearing and adopt resolution passed unanimously.

Honorary Street Naming: NYPD Detective Alfred Boesch (Item 5)

  • No public comments. The board voted unanimously to approve the designation of Westminster Road as "NYPD Detective Alfred Boesch Way".

Ordinance: Commercial Traffic Restriction on I.U. Willets Road (Item 7)

  • Public Comment: William Andrade (136 I.U. Willets Road) spoke in favor, describing lost cars, shaking houses, and dangerous speeds. He noted the road is used as a shortcut.
  • Board Discussion: Council members noted enforcement challenges and past sting operations. They acknowledged the difficulty of limiting trucks, but supported the ordinance.
  • Board Action: Motion to close hearing and adopt ordinance passed unanimously.

Key Outcomes

  • All four resolutions (Items 4, 5, 6, 7) were adopted unanimously.
  • Three items (1, 2, 3) were continued to future dates.
