The North Kingstown Town Council met on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 6:30 PM in the Town Hall Council Chambers. The meeting began with an executive session on a real estate matter, followed by the regular session at approximately 6:45 PM. A range of special business items, a joint meeting with the School Committee and state legislative delegation, a public hearing, public comments, consent agenda approvals, and reports were all on the agenda.
Sorry, everybody. Good evening. Uh welcome to the North Kingstown town council meeting for Monday, February ninth, twenty twenty six. I'd like to call this meeting to order. Uh pursuant to our island general law forty two dash forty six dash six C. Notice of this meeting is opposed to the Secretary of State's website. I would entertain a motion to go in executive session. All in favor say aye. Aye. Any opposed? The ayes have it. So we'll convene it. Go into executive session. Hopefully we'll be out of the air by six forty-four. Good evening, everybody. Excuse me, good evening. I apologize. I'll entertain a motion to um to uh seal the minutes in executive session. So I moved. Second. All in favor say aye. Aye. Any opposed, the ayes have it. For those who just joined us, we started our meeting at six thirty when an executive session. Um we're out now, and at this point we will uh salute the flag before we do so. I do want to make a couple of comments. This uh since we last met long time town resident, Mr. Nicholas uh Filippo uh passed away. Uh also uh John Urban's dad. Um passed away, and I had the opportunity to go to a funeral, and he was uh quite a guy. And sadly, um, many American papers and magazines are calling a cold-blooded killing on the streets of America. Another citizen died. This is a second citizen since I let was another citizen since the last time we met at the hands of the federal government. And uh Mr. Alex Predi. So I asked that we say the flute the flag. And hold a moment of silence in honor of these three individuals. Pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. One nation under God injustice as well. Thank you. So we do have a busy agenda. Um I know some folks, at least one for uh some folks from the legislature and the school committee here. Uh what I'm gonna propose to everyone is uh we conduct as much business as we can get through till 730. At that time, um, we will ask the uh delegation, state delegation and the school committee to join us, and we can discuss uh legislative priorities of the town at the General Assembly for this uh legislative session. So with that, I will go on to special business item number five, presentation by Hiswick of uh original art depicting the Oaklands. So good afternoon, Randy Wheatman 40 Sanford. Uh I'm also president of Historic Wickford. Uh what I'd like to do today is present an original uh artwork by Laurie Jeremiah. Lori Jeremiah uh could not make it. She's down in Florida doing what they do this time of year, warming up.
