Dear Father in Heaven, at the beginning of this council meeting, we bow our heads and give thee thanks, express the gratitude that we have in our hearts for the many blessings that we have.

We're grateful to live in this community in this country among so many wonderful people from so many places.

Heavily Father, at this time, I pray for those in our community that are in tremendous need.

I pray for their comfort and upliftment, that their needs may be maybe met, and most importantly, I pray for inspiration to be upon each of us in this room that if we have that we can give and that we can share our time and our talents to lift and lighten the burdens of others.

I pray for our first responders, our firefighters and police officers that serve our community every day, that they can be watched over, protected, and give given guidance as they meet individuals in their difficult circumstances.

I pray for the children in our community that they may enjoy and have fulfillment during their school year.

And the first one is a certificate of recognition for our very own City of North Las Vegas Fire Department personnel for their efforts during the 2025 fires in Texas, the floods I mean in Texas in July.

And then next we're going to have a proclamation recognizing National Emergency Management Awareness Month.

So, Council, let's go down front.

Let me make sure I have everything.

That's a great thing, enthusiastic.

But first of all, from the bottom of my heart, I just want to thank you all for the work that you've done.

I know you see a lot, you experience a lot more than we could ever imagine what you all go through.

But yet you're here, you're smiling.

Um, but thanks for being steadfast.

Thanks for being committed, and thanks for serving the community, whether it's here or in another state.

So we really appreciate you.

So first, I'm gonna call up Jerry Behinds, our City of North Las Vegas emergency management specialist.

And I'm just gonna read a little something about you so I get to brag about you for a few minutes.

So it's a position at Nevada Task Force One, Technical Information Specialist.

So the responsibility is during the Kerr fire.

Why do I keep saying fire?

I don't know.

During the Kerr County, Texas flood deployment, Jeremy served as a technical information specialist, responsible for collecting, managing, and visually presenting operational data from rescue and search teams in the field.

He compiled K-9 search tracks, field search routes, and points of interest, such as potential human remains or damaged or structures, an accurate and to accurate real-time mission maps.

He maintained all devices and platforms, provided just in time training on the search and rescue common operation pitchers or SARCAP system, and you endured data integrity through rigorous quality control.

For 18 days in the field, he directly supported mission objectives by enabling situational awareness and operational coordination in the search for flood victims.

This is Jeremy's fourth deployment, and you have been with the NVTF 1 team for five years.

So congratulations again and thank you for all you do.

And then I'd like to invite no staple guy, do a picture.

And right now, I'd like to invite up Fire Captain Michael Rogers.

He's not here.

He's actually in Texas, getting together in the church now.

Oh, wow, he's in Texas.

Okay, well, I'm gonna read this anywhere.

Um, he's also a position at Nevada Task Force One, and he's a K-9 search specialist.

His responsibility during the Kerr County, Texas flood deployment, Captain Rogers served as K-9 search specialist, searching for victims with his K9 partner, Pop Tart.

I love the name, as well as supporting other K9 teams with mapping and data collection.

This is Captain Rogers' fifth deployment.

He has been with the NBTF1 team for seven years.

And an additional note, Pop Tart is three years old, and this is her fourth deployment.

So we will congratulate him from afar.

Maybe he's listening, who knows?

But congratulations as well.

And we make sure that he gets his certificate.

Whereas emergencies and disasters can occur unexpectedly, posing significant threats to life, property, and to the environment.

And whereas local emergency managers, emergency managers across all sectors, community leaders leaders, state governments, and the federal emergency management agency, which is FEMA, dedicated countless hours to developing preparedness response recovery and mitigation programs to protect the lives and property of all persons living in the United States and U.S.

territories, and whereas emergency managers across the United States and U.S.

territories are charged with establishing and maintaining the capabilities necessary to effectively direct, coordinate, and support emergency and disaster response and recovery efforts, and whereas the mission areas of prevention, protection, mitigation response, and recovery align with the core capabilities identified in the national preparedness goal, and whereas the emergency managers serve the nation by responding to countless emergencies and disasters each year, demonstrating commitment, compassion, and professionalism in protecting the public.

And whereas the efforts of all nations emergency managers have helped millions of community members across the United States recover, rebuild, and become more resilient in the face of adversity.

Now, therefore, we, the City of North Las Vegas, do hereby recognize August 2025 as National Emergency Awareness Month in North Las Vegas and urged community members to express their sincere appreciation for emergency managers in every sector who work diligently to prepare, protect, and serve our cities, counties, states, tribes, territories, regions, and organizations against all hazards and risks, and witness thereof our council signatures.

And this great team also trains us to make sure that we're aware in case there's an emergency and how to respond.

Hi, I'm uh Ben Erickson.

I am uh privileged to be the emergency manager and serving here as North in North Las Vegas.

Uh it's an honor to take this proclamation, especially in the month of August uh for emergency management awareness month.

Uh I appreciate uh Madam Mayor and Council for uh presenting us this this uh proclamation today.

Uh definitely couldn't do it without my team, and that's why we're all proactive and want to be up here.

So uh she's our administrative assistant that assists us every day, Solome Barton, and you guys have already met Jeremy Hines.

Uh they do amazing stuff when you're in a position like mine.

You look to have strong people around you that are uh build up your team, and I'm very, very fortunate here.

Uh one of our big goals this year is we have a new ready and resilient campaign that's a uh you know, a proactive report approach for a holistic involving the whole community, not only just the city, but how we can prepare and uh better protect our citizens here in North Las Vegas.

So look for those improvements on our city website here soon.

And uh once again, it's an honor at the end of the day.

We just want to make sure that we as emergency managers are ready.

We make sure that uh the city's prepared and that the citizens of North Las Vegas are ready and resilient.

Okay, now we're going to move on to council items, and we have some amazing, exciting things to share.

Councilman, um Baron, let's start with you first.

Thank you, Mayor.

I I really appreciate it.

Well, um, number one, I um last Saturday we we had our I've already forgotten uh what annual it was, you know.

I uh I have it seemed like um I can't remember time that we didn't do some sort of a backpack giveaway.

But um we did our our our uh study North Vegas back to school giveaway uh August 9th.

Um I think uh uh everyone was able to come.

Uh I'm I'm sorry that uh uh Councilman Churchill wasn't able to make it, but we were very happy to have our mayor, uh our the councilwoman, of course, uh the mayor for Tam.

We we gave away close to a thousand backpacks, but we also gave away like 600 pairs of shoes.

Actually, probably more.

We kind of like lost track of how many shoes we we gave away.

We had a few haircuts and lots of school supplies and food.

Um we really have to thank, you know, uh the big donor in this one was none of the none other than um the uh attorney Eric Palacios in his office that was behind, you know, the the the biggest donation.

But we had lots of other people um that were out here and given their time, giving their energy, giving their money on the resources that you can, and uh really doing the best they could to help uh uh the area residents um have the very best uh start of the school year possible.

And when I was actually there kind of helping out with the fitting of the shoes, it turns out the the the students that we had, they weren't just here from the immediate.

We we did have some stuff, some uh residents here, right here from the the so-called uh quarter of hope.

But we had kids that were coming in from Western High School, from Chaparral High School, from the Far South Valley.

Um I I think um really uh anyone who had a hand in it, and of course, I wanted to thank our our staff that worked so hard.

Um I I did see like Kantasha was out there that the day before, uh like the Lone Ranger uh working to get everything uh going.

Um whether you're uh city staff or a um one of the volunteers, it's down here to the bottom of our hearts, you know.

Um it's about our community coming together.

In the same way that of course, we as a community, we came together to help our our our our friends there in Texas, right?

It's about what we do, what we share in common to help each other out, to make each other's lives just a little bit better.

That uh our city definitely respects that.

Um I was able to um attend the As Federal, and I couldn't tell you what exactly uh stands for anymore, but it's one of the community groups that uh that is represented by uh former immigrants there from Mexico City, who they did uh an event, Raisas in Mexico, uh their art expo and cultural event here in North of Vegas at uh CSN, um the uh North Vegas campus uh on Cheyenne, and that was last uh August 14th.

And I'm very happy that our uh our our uh very own resident, uh Marie Antoinette, um, who uh she was actually awarded um the um uh cultural uh event um member of the year a couple years ago.

Um she's the one who puts us on almost every year.

It's a lot of work.

Sometimes you have to fundraise and invite you know a cultural group from our it's it's a lot of work, and I'm very happy to say that she's one of our residents, and we have recognized her uh her cultural impact, I think, to our community.

Uh, which gets me to the next thing to announce.

Uh, we're putting on the seventh annual Hispanic Heritage Month kickoff event uh on September 14th from 2 to PM from 2 p.m.

to 9 p.m.

right here at City Hall Liberty Park.

Uh, we'll be starting off at another again, uh uh uh with a small parade.

Um this File de Naciones, uh the Parade of Nations that will uh start it uh at uh I think it's one o'clock and end up right here.

Uh last year we had uh a fantastic time.

And um please uh be aware that uh we'll be announcing all the details with flyers and all that very soon.

We'd love to have you here.

And finally, um mayor, I I think that uh we have developed a fine uh partner here in the Clark County School District with uh I guess our new superintendent and uh the school board who um they heard us when our residents were were clamoring for help because ours was a city that was the one who was least likely to have a fully licensed teacher in front of its uh uh children.

Um the school has responded, and uh I'm very happy to hear that.

We we're building a whole new relationship, I think, for the school district.

And um I'm happy to say that um all of our schools, like for instance last year, Cheyenne High School.

Unfortunately, they were 35 positions down at the start of last school year, and this year they were fully staffed.

And so um the turnaround uh uh I I have to admit, I'm um I'm a bit shocked.

Yeah, I might we might have had a hand in it, right?

But I'm I'm still very, very uh happy, and I'm welcoming uh these new steps forward as we work in partnership to divide to um to provide the very best uh position, the very best opportunities we can for our residents and especially the residents who are future are kids.

And uh I see my education is our in the back, you know.

Uh Ingrid is uh we're we're ecstatic, you know.

Um we're very happy.

Uh thank you, Mayor.

And then we'll have our annual meeting with our principals really soon as well.

Um I want to mention that uh tomorrow, uh August 21st, from 8 a.m.

to 12 p.m.

at the Aliante Casino and Hotel in the Scottsdale Grand Ballroom.

Uh, they'll be doing a Project Reach Senior Expo put on by United Way, Southern Nevada, and by uh uh NV Energy.

Um if you're interested in attending, there's some qualifications.

Uh if you are 62 or older and need help paying your electric gas, water or sewer bill.

Uh you can reach senior expo powered by UNN uh NV Energy.

You may be able to uh get some assistance uh with those bills.

So it'll be in the uh in the Scottsdale ballroom up there in Aliante Casino.

Uh the other thing I want to mention is that uh we all had an opportunity to uh to attend uh at uh Ahern's um uh hotel downtown today.

The uh excuse me, the uh uh injured police officers uh fund um they do uh and I don't know how many people are aware of this fund that uh is put on by volunteers of police officers and other volunteers from our city and the other jurisdictions that they uh they kind of take care of the family of our police officers if they're injured or lose their life in uh on duty.

Uh and just to let these families know that uh that they're never forgotten and never will be forgotten.

And uh we had a very good turnout, and I can't go through all of the names that were there today, but I could tell you that all of the people that received uh acknowledgments and award uh when it was all over, there was more of them standing uh on the uh day of the stage than there were uh sitting in the in the room itself.

Um last but definitely not least, uh my favorite event coming up uh is Pause in a park on October 25th, uh from 10 a.m.

to 1 p.m.

at Aliante Nature Discovery Park.

Uh it'll be a perfect opportunity for you to bring your your animal up there, your dog uh to be vaccinated.

Um, uh always dedicates their time to chip our animals up there.

And not only that, uh, and it seems to be growing every year, started with my little Suki, uh would have been her third year.

Uh she was here right now.

Uh, and uh, you know, uh the theme this year in October is gonna be Halloween.

So if you if you have a dog and and you'd like to participate, um, get an outfit for your dog and a similar one for yourself.

Uh, and then uh we'll have a contest and we'll see whose outfit and and whose parent uh is the most uh exciting to uh look at and get the uh the awards that'll make be made available to all of them that day.

On July 30th, I had the privilege of speaking at uh our care court veterans treatment uh graduation.

And if you're not familiar with that program, it is incredibly inspiring.

There were eight individuals that graduated from that one year program with uh intensive support and case management from uh judge uh overseen by Judge Chris Lee and supported by the court staff, and to see it culminate with the graduation and to realize that someone who served our country in such a meaningful way and then found themselves um in you know difficulty with the law, but able to course correct and be dedicated to a year-long program with the support of the city to get their life back on track, have gainful employment, reconnect with their families, overcome the obstacles and barriers that they were dealing with with their personal challenges, is really inspiring.

There are a lot of veterans' groups that come and show support and love for these individuals.

One of them is the veterans' quilts.

Each recipient, each graduate received a beautiful handmade quilt of a unique pattern.

It's just so inspiring.

If you hear about a care court graduation, I invite you to come and attend that because it is really something um worth attending, and it's very inspiring.

Also, uh last week I had the opportunity to join our fire department, uh, Chief Calhoun and education specialist Victor Mancia at Vista Park.

If you're not familiar with Vista Park, it's on Farm Road in Aviary and Valley Vista Master Plan Community.

It's an age-restricted, all-inclusive uh retirement living center.

They have a beautiful theater, they have a rest uh really nice uh restaurant, they have a beauty salon and hair uh hair cutting place inside and a pharmacy.

But anyway, I had the privilege of speaking there at the beginning of their symposium to update the seniors on some of the great projects that are going on citywide.

I took them basically on a virtual tour, started on the uh the West End by Hilo Park and worked across to downtown and then out to the job creation zone, and then took them out to uh uh the great things that are happening and happening in Apex, and then I had a good discussion with them on senior housing, affordable housing, and access to services for seniors.

So that was a great um experience for me as well.

And then last evening, uh myself and Councilman Churchill, we were at the community engagement division quarterly neighborhood watch captains meeting at Sun City Aliante.

Always a great experience to see the people that are invested in their community that care that make a difference, their community to show up and engage in this.

And uh the police department always does a great job, brings special uh guests and presentations.

Last evening, it was our traffic division, so they had their accident investigation van out there, their um motorcycles, uh really great discussion on traffic, on speeding, on pedestrian and uh vehicular safety.

And so uh that was an amazing thing.

And then also lastly, um our city manager and I had the privilege last week to spend four hours with our SWAT team and uh in connection with the narcotics division to do uh a coordinated um uh warrant serving.

And it's just amazing the the detail, the planning that goes into uh what it takes to keep our community safe.

Four individuals were apprehended.

Uh lots of illegal drugs were taken off the street and are safer, our city is safer because of the men and women in our police department.

I also want to mention the North Las Vegas back to school giveaway that took place at the NRC just recently.

It was really it was a great success.

Um, I want to thank our sponsors, um, our team, including Kantasha, who's watching from the ninth floor right now, um, for the great work that she did helping us coordinate and um ensure that this event went smoothly.

Also, I want to thank our volunteers and everyone who helped make this possible.

Um, you really wasn't the uh privilege to be able to support this initiative and this um this event so that we could support our families and our community.

Um, and I just want to wish all of our students and their teachers a successful uh school year ahead.

I know that this is we're into the second uh week of school.

Um, and then on August 11th, I attended a women's empowerment and mental health workshop at the Dolores Huerta Resource Center.

Um, it was a class led in Spanish by Fuente de Vida, and the topic discussed was goal setting.

Um and it was just great to uh be able to attend and engage with the participants that were very receptive, and these are caring members of our community who are looking to improve their lives.

Um, the following day, I joined my colleagues at the joint mayoral business power luncheon, which was hosted by the Las Vegas Chamber, um, where you mayor did a great job.

You participated in a strong and um engaging discussion.

Um, and so it was just great to um hear about all the exciting things happening across our valley um and just seeing the spirit of collaboration among different jurisdictions.

Um, and then last but not least, um I want to mention that this coming Saturday, August 23rd at Craig Ranch Park, uh, there will be a movie playing.

It's a free admission for families for anyone that wants to come.

Um, I believe they're gonna be showing Fast X.

Is that right?

I haven't seen it, so if you don't like it, don't get mad at me.

Um mission is free, food and drink will be available for purchase.

And so just come on and then enjoy the showing starts shortly after sunset.

Doug Guile, Director of Parks and Recreation.

I'm excited to share a wonderful proposed partnership that is coming to North Las Vegas.

The city would like to partner with the Las Vegas Aces and the Nines Foundation on a project.

Excuse me, Mayor, wait a minute.

The 2022 and 2023 back to back WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces.

To join on a project that will renovate, resurface two basketball courts at Desert Horizons Park.

The project is funded by the ACEs and the Nines Foundation.

And the agenda item before you is the agreement that we hope gets approved this evening.

Mayor, this isn't just about a new basketball court.

It's about opportunity and inspiration for our youth.

The refurbished courts will host community-focused basketball clinics throughout the year, giving our kids a chance to learn from professional athletes, develop teamwork skills, stay active in a safe, welcoming environment, and create memorable recreation experiences.

The basketball courts will also serve as a place where families and neighbors can gather, play, and take pride in their city.

The project includes a dedication, aka ribbon cutting ceremony at the conclusion when the project is completed.

And the courts will feature both the city's logo and the Las Vegas Aces' logo and branding, symbols of our collaboration.

We are grateful to the Las Vegas Aces, two-time WNBA champions.

And the X's and the and the Nines Foundation for their generosity and commitment to the youth and families of North Las Vegas.

And I'd I'd just like to mention that uh the ACE's executive team is here, including Team President Nikki Fargas and her team, her executive team.

And the team mascots here also.

Would like to mention one one other person, uh, Blair Hardick is the chief strategy officer for the ACEs, and she's I've worked very closely with her over the last few months to make this agreement happen.

You know, one of the things um that we were talking about briefly before we got here was this renovation and us coming in and refurbing the courts, and Mayor was just so ecstatic.

She started jumping up and down right over here.

So just love your enthusiasm, and thank you to the council as well for approving um our our our our project.

Um, you know, when I think about the why, um, we talk about that a lot in in with the lace fall lace loss.

I can't speak either.

Las Vegas Ace's um front office and the why we are here.

Yes, we love winning basketball games.

We love the fact that we are two-time back-to-back WBA champions.

Um, but more importantly, what was really our why is how do we connect with this community?

How do we use uh basketball, use the platform, use use our talents to to create a community that feels proud, and we feel as though this project is going to do that, is going to connect the little round basketball, but the court can be used for any sport.

It's not just for basketball, but more importantly, is for you know, when we think about our youth participation, the lack thereof, there's been a huge decline in girls and boys' participation in sports, and we know what that teaches us.

We know that sports teaches us discipline, it teaches us teamwork, it teaches us how to um accept and handle challenges, or when things don't go our way, how do we navigate and manage through that?

And so, this is more than just getting out there and learning skills, which we're gonna host clinics and we're gonna have the ACES players and coaches there.

Um, this is also about teaching life skills, and and that's that's our why.

And so, again, we're extremely excited with this partnership.

We cannot wait for the uh revealing of the courts.

Um, it's gonna be beautiful.

Um, and and it's something that this community will be proud of.

Um, I just want to also mention my team here.

We've got some great people on the nines board, the nines foundation who is um we're partnering with, and Matt Delson is one of our board members as well.

He's our CFO and COO of Las Vegas Aces.

We you well, Blair, you already had an introduction.

Uh so Blair also serves on the board, and then Ricard handles the financials, and then Sydney's our community, and then I just want to give a special shout out to Buckets for being here today.

And so when our kids go out there and they see the ACES logo on our court, of course, the city of North Las Vegas, we're just a little biased, just saying, um, on those courts, it's it's pride, and they can recognize it and it can relate to that.

And so it is going to be an honor for kids to play on those fields in the very new future.

And so I'm glad you mentioned clinics because you know, I say we need clinics, we need all kinds of stuff, and the kids need to see the players face, you know, face to face so they can totally relate to them.

So again, we couldn't be more proud.

And Doug and and um Val, I'm sorry, thank you for the things that you have done with our parks and recreation department.

And you know, you done you do some great work, and we appreciate you too.

I don't want just neil to undermine you, but thank you again.

Moving on to appointments, item 29, appointment of Ariya Ramos to the education advisory committee for a term ending on August 19, 2027.

Boy, I tell you, when we did our interviews for our education advisory committee, this young lady stood out among our applicants as someone with a strong head on her shoulders, a determined future, and she's going somewhere, she's going to be great.

And so um, would someone like to make that motion?

Or any other first any any other comments or questions first, counsel?

Well, actually, I have a comment first.

Sure.

Um I um we envisioned, of course, our education uh advisory board um as uh of course uh our national working board that could you know um do what's uh sometimes uh it's um how should I say this?

Uh we're not trying to take over CCAD's lane.

We're staying within our lane, but there are many things that we can do as a city to support education within our boundaries.

And um on the board, you know, we have uh people who are former educators, people who are really committed, I think, to um broadening the scope of what our city can do, and of course, you know, uh advising us.

And I I think it was very visionary for us to add quite frankly, a young person and one of the actual students, uh a young person who lives in our community.

Um, I'm kind of hoping in the future that there'll be actually a representative, you know, from the students to sit on the CCSD board of trustees, maybe not as a voting member, but someone who, you know, when the students come in and they give their opinion about what they well about what things are going on, you know, um, they can come up with some really um interesting uh views.

Turns out, like for instance, the students that uh that I guess there is kind of like an advisory thing.

Turns out the the students' ideas when it came to uh electronics uh to uh technology in the classroom, they were away ahead of what most of the uh the the trustees were thinking, and it tended to be actually even more how should I say um well there uh uh their answers were a lot tougher than I think than than I would have come up with.

So uh I'm very happy that you know that we will be having a young person's uh view on this board because you know, uh I mean what we're doing is for them anyhow.

So who better than to uh for us to ask uh uh for advice from then some of the uh informed young people in our community?

So uh unless someone else actually wants to make the motion, uh I'll I'll just step back and let uh other people uh did anyone else want to uh give a statement though or a question or anything?

Um I just asked my phone how far it is from where I sit right now to 2720 Brook Street.

Um, and it's exactly one mile.

And uh that's where I grew up on 2720 Brooke Street right next to Lincoln Elementary School.

And so the North Las Vegas I grew up in was a community that I was incredibly proud of.

And um the North Las Vegas that I live in now and uh have raised my daughter in with my wife is a community that I'm even more proud of.

And so for the last eight years, it's been an absolute honor to be on the city council to see how things work, to learn, to be involved, to be engaged, to listen to the community, to work with uh my amazing colleagues here on the council.

Um I'm grateful for the mayor and her mentor mentorship.

She's a steady leader uh with compassion that I've learned a tremendous amount from.

And so it's an absolute honor uh for me to serve in this capacity, and my goal is to um continue to do my best to serve the residents of Ward 3 and North Las Vegas.

Well, I have a visual for what MPT was talking about.

This was before we we um went out um for for our uh our bust, if you will.

And I think you know, for me and MPT, this definitely unlocked like a core memory, just seeing the professionalism and the position in which our team executed this uh, you know, again, this this operation.

Um I do want to give special thanks to Captain Brucken, who I know is in the back, as well as Lieutenants Parish and Arnona.

They gave us a lot more insight and a little bit of the play by play and all the things that go on into executing these kind of operations to, you know, in this operation and past operations and in future operations, what they do to keep our communities safe and to save lives in terms of you know taking away, you know, all these drugs that go into into our community.

So I'm extremely grateful for what they do and continue to do.

And I do want to celebrate an IT milestone.

Um it's only well, a little halfway through the year, and our team has already resolved uh more than 10,000 tickets to ensure that our systems remain secure and efficient.

Um really a big thanks to our professionals for keeping our city operations running smoothly and providing excellent customer service throughout all of our departments.

And we're back to PD.

Um we celebrated uh six promotions that will be effective on September 6th.

Um, and so we have three promoting to Sergeant, uh Gabriel Suarez, Joseph Manelli, Ryan Johnson, um, to the detective Christian Carriot and Alexander Cuevas and Lieutenant Shane Arendale.

So congratulations to all of them.

Good afternoon, Mayor and Council members.

My name is Amy Sparrow here with Nate Atkins, and I'm here on behalf of NECA Academy.

Thank you for the opportunity to speak today.

I have to say I love all the things that City of North Las Vegas is doing, and I will definitely be present for Paul's in the park.

Uh our intention was to come and comment at the beginning of the meeting for agenda item three, but comments, I think we're closed as we're completing our card.

Nonetheless, uh, and for the record, we have three comments.

First, um, we're really curious if the city of North Las Vegas truly is supportive of school choice and school choice friendly.

I agree with Councilman Barone that CCSD is making remarkable improvements, but school choice gives parents and families just that choice, not CCSD, not the city.

Uh, it's truly putting the choice in the hands of the family.

So, if yes, we respectfully request a collaboration meeting to improve this application process.

However, if school choice is not a priority or something the city council is committed to, we simply ask for transparency.

Many people in the community have spent an enormous amount of time and resources towards improving the education here in the community, where there is undoubtedly an remaining and imminent need.

We are ready to continue investing, but we want to invest our time and resources and communities that are ready for us.

Secondly, we intend to request a deferment on our vote to approve or deny based on nine comp non-compliance with NRS 388A.252, where we have 30 days to respond to discrepancies when all of our feedback was in, we had 11 days.

Lastly, third, we haven't received notification as to why our application has continued to be recommended for denial, and would like to request a follow-up to that as well.

Uh, I agree with Purpose Academy and that we are grateful for the opportunity to be here and to support education.

Um I think that concludes my comment.

Um I wanted to speak on um immigration.

My name is Jasmine Cañada.

I am a US-born citizen.

And my concerns are that people like myself are going to be targeted by ICE.

Um, our undocumented citizens here are going to be targeted violently by ICE.

And I I just want to call them what they are.

They are the Gestapo of the Trump administration.

That the city here and the city of Las Vegas has said that we are not a sanctuary city.

This means that we are not going to protect our citizens here who are like myself, who will be targeted by this administration.

And I just want to know what are you guys going to do about it?

Because I live in fear that I will be targeted every day.

Because I live in the east side of Las Vegas and I work here in North Las Vegas.

And I am fearful that one day, just over a traffic stop that I will be taken because of the last name that I have, because of what I look like.

What are we going to do about protecting the citizens here and our undocumented citizens?

Because that's what they are.

They aren't illegals, they aren't aliens, they are people.

And we need to start seeing them like that.
