The meeting opened with an invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by council members highlighting recent events and community initiatives.
Good afternoon. And welcome to the North Las Vegas City Hall, City Council meeting. There are two public forums set aside for public comments at this meeting, one at the beginning and one at the end. If you wish to speak, please complete one of the blue cards, which are located on the table outside the main entrance and right here at the podium rail. Once you complete the card, please give it to the city clerk when called upon to speak. We request that you limit your comments to no more than two minutes. Madam City Clerk, are we in compliance with the Nevada Open Meeting Law? Yes, ma'am, we are. Thank you. Today we'll have the opportunity to have the invitation given by our own mayor Porteim Scott Black. Following that, we'll have the Pledge of Allegiance as led by Councilman Churchill. Please stand. Our most gracious Heavenly Father, we pause at the beginning of this city council meeting to express our gratitude and humility for the gift of life for each day that we are afforded to be here in this community. We're grateful for the blessing and privilege of freedom and the opportunity to help and serve. And I pray for guidance for mayor and my council colleagues that we may make decisions that will benefit the lives of others, that we will be able to lift and serve and help where we can. I pray for our law enforcement, our public safety that they may be watched over and protected as they serve and put themselves in harm's way. I pray for the families in our community that they can have their needs met, that we can be instruments in service. And I pray for these things in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen. We had quite the exciting afternoon earlier with the demolition starting across the street on the old city hall campus. And we've had such great days and great weeks here. We didn't have anybody to take our frustrations out, so we just took the sledgehammers and hit the wall and just made big holes in the wall. But the funnest part was the excavation part. Which I got to tear down part of the building. That was so much fun. I was so afraid that I was gonna hurt the machine, but they're like, nah, but it was super cool. So I think I found my calling when I finish here. So thank you for that opportunity. It was so fun. So let's go ahead and move on to council items. Councilman Baron. Thank you, Mayor. Thank you, Mayor. And uh I was I was impressed with your heavy machinery prowess. Um I'll tell you what, uh, your election as the state's first black mayor in the history of state. That was you are breaking down barriers doing that. And today you're breaking down, you know, uh that building very much in line with uh a historical, you know, look back. And that moment totally defined you. Thank you. A little bit of a poet, huh? Uh I guess I'm angling in front of the job too. Um no, but uh seriously here. I was really impressed. Uh matter of fact, uh, that's gonna be my first council uh item.
