Dear Heavenly Father, we are just so grateful for who you are.

We thank you for your mercy and your grace and for your love.

And we thank you for the very breath that you give in our lungs and for the fact that you have brought us together for this council meeting tonight.

Lord, we thank you for the peace that your word offers, that you have placed those who sit in the seats in front of us by your wisdom and by your grace.

And so Lord, I do pray for each of them that as they go about this meeting that you would give wisdom from heaven, that you would just allow them in uh public and private decisions to make decisions that glorify you and honor you.

And Lord, we do ask that with that that you would just continue to shed your grace upon this city.

Uh, and we do ask for forgiveness.

We know that uh there are times when we do fall short of your glory, and so Lord, we pray that you uh would just uh give your grace once more, that you would show your mercy, and Lord, that uh that you would bring revival across the city and across this nation, uh, that we would all tell of who you are, Lord.

Um, it was a law enforcement-based school.

I was there for the forensic science program.

I just graduated um about two weeks ago.

Um, I'm certified to, I believe, work uh or I have a forensic certification.

Um, but it was a three-year-long program.

It's really interesting, and um, I'd like to pursue maybe a career or some sort of future with that industry.

Awesome.

Well, thank you so much for being here, and uh in LVPD is not a too shabby place to work.

It's absolutely CSI program.

So thank you so much.

Also, uh, Pastor Ethan, if you'd come forward, thank you so much.

I had a privilege to chat with him real briefly before our meeting.

And if you just tell us a little bit about Fervent.

Yeah, well, I'm Ethan Collado.

I'm the youth pastor at Fervent.

We're looking located on the north side of the city at 4295 North Rancho Drive.

And we just truly believe in the authority of God's word.

We believe in the power of prayer, and of course, the community of God's people.

And so all we desire is that people would know God deeper and by that fall more in love with him.

Each month we shine a light on a local business or organization that truly represents the heart of our community.

This month I am very proud to recognize Dynamic Dental and Orthodontics as our June 2026 business of the month.

Located at 6847, North Commerce Street, Dynamic Dental has been serving North Las Vegas' family since 2006.

Founded by Dr.

GN Kim, a U.S.

Army veteran and his wife, Dr.

Sharon.

This is truly a veteran-owned family-owned practice that has grown its roots right here in our community.

Their new location is a beautifully designed state-of-the-art facility that reflects the level of care and investment this family has made in North Las Vegas.

What really sets this practice apart is how it is built around the patient experience.

Their location is uh, I don't know, it's called the uh devil's triangle right now with all the construction up there by Durrell.

But it's right on the corner as you come off of the 215 Revere.

You'll come down and all of a sudden Revere turns into commerce, and Deer Springs cuts into both of them.

So uh it's a great location.

Uh and their office is amazing.

The staff there is amazing, both the doctor, both doctor, the doctor and his wife, but the both doctors are very passionate about what they do there and how they're gonna serve the city.

And I could tell you by looking at that, uh, I'm not one to go into dentist's office.

I don't think anybody likes to go into dentists, but you know, this place the way it looks in there, the way they operate, it almost wants you to have it like a cavity or something just to go in there and see how it is.

Almost not quite enough.

So uh Lisa, would you like to come up here for a second, please?

His dedication has earned him a nomination for the 2026 Military Friendly Veteran of the Year Award.

And our veterans' claim agent Dan Camenao assisted nearly 1,300 veterans over seven months, helping ensure they receive the benefits they earn through their service.

We're so grateful for your dedication to our veteran and military connected community.

Walter and Dan exemplify what servant leadership looks like.

We're grateful to have them on our team and honor them tonight.

So that video is amazing, but we're gonna brag about you a little bit more, so stand right here in the center so we can all look at you.

We are honored to recognize Walter Lascano for his unwavering commitment to veterans, families, and the North Las Vegas community.

A proud Navy veteran, Walter has continued his service beyond the military by helping lead and shape the collaborative vision of the Veterans and Community Resource Center into a trusted hub for support, connection, and hope.

Through his leadership, the center has strengthened partnerships and expanded access to critical wraparound services designed to meet the real needs of veterans and community members alike.

Since the center opened, Walter has helped assist more than 2500 unique individuals in accessing and accessing the resources and support they need to move forward.

His passion for service, genuine compassion, and tireless dedication have not only impacted lives locally, but have also earned national recognition through his nomination for the 2026 Military Friendly Veteran of the Year Award.

Walter represents the very best of community leadership and servant-hearted care, and we are deeply grateful for the difference he continues to make in North Las Vegas every day.

I did write some notes down because I really don't want to forget anyone.

Please forgive me.

Thank you, Mayor Pratam, Council members, senior leadership, and everyone here today.

I am truly honored and humbled by this recognition.

As a Navy veteran, I've always believed the service does not end when we take off our uniform.

For me, it simply became a different mission.

Continuing continuing to serve veterans, their families, and our community.

Every veteran has a story.

And every veteran deserves to know they're not alone.

That beliefs has guided me throughout my career and continues to inspire the work that we do every day at the Veterans and Community Resource Center.

I also recognize the none of this who have been possible.

You guys without without impossible without the support of so many people.

While this recognition has my name on it, it truly reflects the collective effort of everyone who believes in serving those who have served our nation.

The greatest reward in this work is seeing veterans find hope, secure housing, obtain benefits, find employment, or simply know that someone cares for them.

Thank you for your support for our veterans and for allowing me the privilege to continue to serve.

It truly means a great deal to me.

Thank you.

A couple of years ago, uh just a little over two years ago, uh, when my brother um when he passed away, um Walter engaged his team, and um they found him an 80s era uh uniform for me to be brought for my brother to be uh buried in uh uh there at the veterans uh memorial cemetery.

And for us for our family, you know, he's the first person from my from my immediate family to be buried there, and so for us it was a big honor.

And uh again, um, although I have thanked him and his team, I just want the entire city to know uh how happy and how proud we are, and I just wanted to again convey my my family's thanks to you and of course to to the center for helping them out and really in the time of aid.

Now we'd like to invite Dan Kay to come forward.

Dan, I was out there for this event as I always am every year, and uh standing right next to Dan, and we all come up there with some type of written guidelines or speeches, uh, and Dan had a little something that he read from, but very very little.

Uh, when he got away from that, uh he had the most compassionate, you know, heart-wrenching speech of talk that uh he remembered from his days on the service, and uh I I think it really impacted all of us, at least it did me.

And uh I just let me read something here.

We are proud to recognize Daniel Camano Jr.

for his outstanding dedication and impact in serving veterans and their families out of our veterans and community resource center from October 25 through April 26, 2026 alone, Dan assisted nearly 1,300 veterans, supported 144 dependents and surviving spouses, and worked through 169 appeals to help ensure individuals receive the benefits they earn through their service.

Beyond the numbers, his work has generated an estimated 4.3 to 5.1 million dollars annually in tax-free benefits flowing back into our local community, directly supporting our veterans, surviving spouses, and their families.

So with that, I just want to say, and I thank you.

It's not enough for your service and for your continued service, my friend, and you are my friend.

I know that.

Um, it is such an honor for us to be here.

Um we are here to present an award to the city called the Heart of Service Award, and I just want to explain a little bit about that.

As part of America 250, which commemorates the 250 years since the sign of the Declaration of Independence, just serve as proud to collaborate on America Gives, which is uh part of America 250.

America Gives encourages individuals and organizations to increase their level of volunteering and impact in 2026.

The hardest service award has been created to honor those whose service strengthens communities and inspires others to serve.

We are presenting them with a plaque and also a medallion.

Um the medallion recognizes those who create lasting impact, bring people together in unity, and lead with generosity, integrity, and purpose.

And I think we have just even being here for this short time, being able to see so many examples of that.

Um the City of North Las Vegas exemplifies the hardest service award.

The many events and services that they offer are bringing people together in unity and strengthen the communities of this great city.

A few examples are the collaboration with Get Outdoors Nevada on multiple things.

Um recently the cleaning of Kyle Ranch, is that how you say it, right?

And the historic part, and then the opening uh last year of the Dolores Huerta Resource Center, which is operated by the Just One project I learned, um, which provides free services and cultural events.

And then today I learned of the wonderful work that the Veteran Um Community Resource Center is doing, and that is just very humbling to hear about.

The city also regularly hosts a variety of pop-up events that provide much needed resources for the unhoused and for seniors and the North Las Vegas City residents.

We'd like to recognize and thank Mayor Coins Brown, the City Council, and the many others who work for them for their service, which is strengthening the city and inspiring others to serve perfect.

You hold that money.

Because of course uh homie and I were homies, uh teachers there.

Although uh I have to admit, I uh I I've had a couple of extra years of rest.

Well, well, I guess uh they didn't hear, I gotta still put on my glasses for this.

All right.

I'm here to uh to uh I want to recognize uh a colleague here, Mr.

Mario Torres, and he's a music teacher, not just any music teacher, he's a mariachi uh uh uh mariachi uh maestro, right?

I'm gonna make that word happen.

People make words up all the time.

Maestraso.

Uh the music teacher at Johnston STEM Academy for being selected as a quarter finalist for the 2027 Music Educator Award.

Yeah, hey, that's pretty good.

Matter of fact, you always want to uh uh you can clap now or clap later again.

There you go.

This award honors current educators from kindergarten through college in both public and private schools who have made a meaningful and lasting impact on music education and who show a strong commitment to ensuring music remains an essential part of school curricula.

And for me, a former music, I was the music nerd over at Rancho High School since I was the band president, man.

Never a mariachi, but you know, uh band geek, the band geek.

Uh anyhow, this is presented in partnership with the recording academy and the Grammy Museum.

The award recipient will be honored during Grammy Week 2027.

Semi-finalists are expected to be announced in September.

Uh, and before I see this, I I have to say that of course, uh, Mr.

Torres and his wonderful wife were honored as our teachers of the year for uh uh for Hispanic Heritage Month.

Uh uh the year before last, right?

Yeah, so why don't she come up?

Well, as she's basically recording, but give that to someone else.

They're quite the team, and that's you know, um, again, we're we're very fortunate to have El Pad, I mean the pair of teachers, and you guys have to understand that they started this uh this program.

They only had like what, uh a dozen uh musicians, and not to go over there, they have like half the school is an Marias program.

Anyhow, let me hand it over to you real fast.

Um it's an honor to teach here in North Las Vegas.

We're very proud of the community.

Um, not only do we live here, but we work.

Um, this is our we're going on our fifth year teaching at Johnson STEM Academy, where we worked really hard, the entire staff there, from going from a one-star school to a three-star school, um, transitioning to a magnet school, um, integrating STEM concepts into music.

So a lot of great things.

And recently we were at the um at the Magnus Schools of America, which is a national um conference that we were invited to to attend in in San Diego, which is our our our hometown.

But um, we are very, very proud of uh being a members uh being teachers and educators, and also yeah, a large program.

We have 332 uh students.

Uh we are a family of mariachi.

We started in high school learning this traditional folk art.

At first, I'm gonna lie, I'm not gonna lie, at first I didn't like it, but you know, uh became something that was very, very um interesting to learn the comp the complex of this folk art.

And it's just an honor to be here with you guys and my family, my friends who are like my family who are also educators for Clark County School District.

And um, thank you, thank you very much.

If you haven't been to this magical place, we invite you to stop by because so much good is happening out of that space.

Um, we've worked really hard to ensure that the community knows what uh what happens there, and if you just go there, you're gonna be impressed as everybody uh feels every time they they walk in through those doors.

So I'm gonna read the um certificate that we will be given shortly.

Uh it says, we proudly recognize that just one project along with CEO Brooke.

Oh man, your last name, Brooke.

New Bower.

Newbauer, yeah, Brooke Newbauer, Center Director, Serafinkaivo, and the entire TJOP team for an extraordinary first year operating at Dolores Huerta Research Center.

Over the past year, the center has become a trusted hub of opportunity, opportunity, stability, and hope for the North Las Vegas community and beyond.

Welcoming more than 11,000 visits and delivering nearly 10,000 points of service to residents and families in need.

That is a lot.

Through the strategic collaboration with more than 25 community partners and service providers, that the HRC has created a true one-stop resource center connecting residents to health care, mental health support, workforce development, education, legal workshops, food access, arts and culture, and emergency response services, and more.

From helping community members gain employment certifications and educational skill gains to supporting families during the SNAP shutdown crisis with immediate food distribution.

The impact of the center has been both measurable and deeply personal.

This first year reflects what is possible when strong partnerships, intentional leadership, and genuine compassion come together in service of a community.

When you always said, hey, you know, we could really use your kind of services out this way.

So I wanted to thank you for that.

I think we found a great partner.

Those are some really fantastic recognitions, and I think it's important that we take time like this to really recognize the good work that's being done in our community and celebrate those leaders that are doing this good work.

At this time, we will um go to council items and I'll start it out with uh councilwoman Garcia Henderson.

So on May 22nd, I attended the Latin Chamber and RTC United for Infrastructure Business Expo.

Um this was an amazing event that brought together leaders across our valley and experts to discuss very important topics such as aviation, water infrastructure, and transportation.

Um this was uh a great uh platform for networking as well and exchanging of ideas.

Um so I guess my biggest takeaway uh was that these sectors are all interconnected and they are very very important for our economic growth.

And um so I want to thank the efforts of the Lion Chamber and RTC for putting this event together for our community and for what they do in our uh in our valley.

And then on May 27th, I had the opportunity to tour Faith Wellness Services.

They are located in Ward 2, and I um was able to learn the fantastic work that they do in our community.

They provide accessible health and wellness resources through their services with uh which support residents are in need.

Um this organization also hosts an annual Juneteenth event um at Craig Ranch, which is in my ward, and uh this is a great event.

Um it's for the entire family, and I want to encourage everyone to attend and participate.

It's on June 19th from 6 to 9, and um it'll be at Craig Ranch.

And then the next day on May 28th, I also visited another ward to business.

It's called Amber and Frost.

Um this is an amazing, amazing fitness and wellness uh studio.

And I was just so impressed by the thoughtful design.

It was just beautiful, it was just clean, it was so welcoming.

Um I learned about the the amazing work that they're also doing to promote physical health and support women in their uh fitness journey.

They are located at 6520 Losi Road, suite one ten in North Las Vegas, if you want to go check them out.

And then last but not least, our annual community pool at Walker Pool is gonna be this Saturday from one to four.

We're gonna have swimming, raffles, prices, free tacos, a live DJ.

Uh so make sure you come bring your family.

Uh, and also the pool hours for this community pool have been extended.

So I have the flyer here from let's see, it'll be extended from so Wednesdays and Thursdays from two to six, and then Fridays uh through Sundays from 12 to 5.

So this is really exciting for that whole community in that uh part of our town.

So we invite everybody to come out and join us is Saturday.

Uh on May 23rd, we had kind of the official uh reopening or opening of a multi-generational facility at Skyview.

Um that was very well attended.

Um we've made some uh some improvements in the uh the facilities since uh the YMCA has been running it, and they did a fine job over the past several years, but it was time that uh we took it back over.

Uh we have the resources to do it now and the employees to do it now, and uh we're gonna continue moving forward on serving our community up there, not only just serving her, but um improving, improving the resources uh that we have here to make it available to all of those people in that area.

Um the following week, which would be uh May 30th, is the uh the day in question of our barbecue up there uh that you saw some pictures of uh that uh that barbecue is getting bigger and bigger every year, uh, and we very much appreciate everybody attending.

Uh we had uh something like 480 essential items donated to support foster youth throughout Southern Nevada.

We had over 640 attendees, 57 vendors, uh, as well as the Grand Canyon University and ADRP Nevada, Nellis Air Force Base Honor Guard, and the Ace and Eighth Car Club.

If you haven't had an opportunity to attend that, attend that, uh I suggest you kind of mark your calendar for next year.

And of course, if you're a veteran, if you know any veterans, uh they need any assistance.

Um that's why uh Walter and Dan are we're being recognized here tonight for their dedication and service to our community, not only while they were active military, but uh now they're civilian active military.

Um as uh as being an honorary uh base commander, I was inducted uh in August of uh 25.

I get an opportunity to uh attend some of the events at Nellis.

And uh one of the events I attended uh just the other night was the uh retirement of uh Colonel uh Harley Thompson.

Um Colonel Thompson was the uh the uh the gentleman um the colonel that was instrumental in getting me on that program in that program.

Um of the uh most proactive, nicest person uh I ever met.

Uh he's gonna be missed, but I don't think he's going anywhere.

Actually, he was uh sworn out of service, whatever you want to call that, sworn out of service, but he actually doesn't retire until uh sometime next month.

So uh we appreciate all that uh all that he's done.

And of course, we have a replacement coming in for him very, very shortly.

And lastly, uh on uh June 8th is what they call engagement day.

Uh we'll be attending that.

Our uh our community is very well served, and you get a better sense of that uh when you attend these engagement things where they give you the briefings as what's really going on uh around the country and here in uh Nevada.

And uh I'll be attending that with uh planning commissioner uh Jimmy Vega, uh also a retired uh um should I say Navy, Navy Marine, medic.

Very good person.

Uh we'll build both be attending that, and uh we'll bring back some information on that.

May Protend, just let me say something.

You know, we we do this once every two weeks, and uh we'll do the uh the proclamations, you know, as council members here.

And uh today uh I'm not gonna say today was special because it's always special.

But you know, I I I think uh and we all would agree that having the opportunity to be elected, you know, by the people we serve, and having that ability to be here and recognize whether it be people like uh like Dan and Walter, but uh all of our other employees over the time over the year.

Uh it's uh it's a real privilege.

Uh it's not something that uh that I or we take lightly.

You know, even though sometimes uh the chamber kind of clears out after all of the uh you know the uh presentations and all.

But uh, you know, we we realize the the good work that our employees do for us, with us, and uh I just wanted to mention that aside from everything else we're talking about.

But um, I've been able to go to uh several uh of the uh North Las Vegas uh graduation ceremonies, right?

Uh since uh I got to receive those as one of the trustees.

There's a lot of great things happening in our schools.

You know, uh just a couple of years ago, we were having such difficulties.

Um there weren't enough qualified uh and licensed teachers in front of our students, in particular here in North Vegas.

But working with our partners there was CC to D and fantastic leadership.

They started this year.

We actually had licensed teachers, enough licensed teachers in front of our children here in North Vegas.

And for us uh here at the city, it was a top priority.

Uh so working together with them, we made that happen.

I'm really happy to say that the graduation rates have responded.

I'm looking at here uh just a couple of uh a couple of schools, one of our newest schools, Northeast Career and Technical Academy.

Um, one hundred of uh one hundred and thirteen out of the 115 seniors walked in the ceremony.

Uh scholarships, we're talking almost a million dollars in uh that has been uh awarded to these graduates, over $800,000.

Uh career and college ready uh CCR diplomas.

Uh 55% of these are were were these type of diplomas, and 85 uh 80 almost uh almost 81% of the students completed one college or AP course while attending NECTA, which you know uh I'll make I'll go ahead and just make uh declare it right now.

Uh it's not in the northeast, it's straight north.

So I I'm gonna I'm hoping that eventually we can maybe get around to doing something about the name because it's not in the northeast, with all respect to our friends in the northeast, which is like that way.

Now the compass is due north.

But anyhow, uh 70% of the students plan on attending college after high school, 26% plan on going on to high skill high skill work, and 4% of them will be joining the military.

Uh God bless them for uh for choosing to uh defend this country, right?

Uh Cheyenne High School again, they had 412 graduates.

Uh they had 65 students who are uh owned uh who earned dual credits, uh AP credits, 111 uh AP credits, and CTE pathway completions, 138.

So I will say when it comes to education, North Las Vegas schools are being served well.

And if I get a chance to talk more about these uh other schools, um we'll do that.

And um one last thing.

Our veterans uh our our veterans uh center and the uh Dolores Werta Resource Center.

That's what you get when you have a local government that understands the needs of its residents and beyond and meets the needs of our residents of our veterans, right?

So I'm really proud to have been part of this, uh, Mayor Bratem, and and and uh and I'm really happy that we have uh a staff that understands our policy direction and our directives and made it and worked really hard to make that happen.

This vacation is expected to facilitate future development in the village at Thule Springs Village 2 development area, aligning with goals for growth and community enhancement.

By vacating this portion of the detention basin, we open up opportunities for new residential projects that can further contribute to the development of North Las Vegas.

The staff recommends the approval of this vacation with one condition that the vacation record concurrently with the final map.

That final map is currently ready pending this meeting here today and will be submitted next week or in the following weeks.

Good evening.

Nice to see everybody.

I just want to begin to say as we wrapped up the 25-26 school year.

I want to extend a massive heartfelt thanks for your unwavering support of our North Las Vegas schools, our educators, and most importantly, our incredible students.

The City of North Las Vegas has been a phenomenal partner in every sense of the word, and that collaboration exactly what makes the North Las Vegas community thrive.

We are heading into the 26-27 school year with more energy and momentum than ever before.

And we are so eager to keep this partnership growing to ensure that every child in our city has a world-class education.

Tonight I will be presenting on key data and strategic actions on student attendance, student discipline, graduation rates, and workforce, and career readiness.

I am proud to share that our collective efforts are moving the needle on chronic absenteeism.

When comparing the first semester of our North Las Vegas schools to the previous year, we have seen a significant overall decrease in chronic absenteeism rates by 4.4%.

This improvement is evident across nearly all student groups, with both percentages and raw students' um counts declining.

These successes are driven by several key actions.

We have strengthened the coordination between intendants enforcement and our community partners, expanded wraparound services to address social emotional and family barriers, and increased proactive outreach, resulting in over 24,000 home visits in the district in the first semester of last year alone.

Specifically in North Las Vegas, we completed 5,0103 attendance home visits from quarter one and quarter two.

For quarter three, we completed 2,084 attendance home visits.

We also completed 592 home visits for students who had withdrawn and were whereabouts unknown and 78 transports for students who were truant.

Up next is student discipline.

The data shows we are making substantial progress in our approach to student discipline.

The number of students referred for suspension in our North Las Vegas schools has decreased by 153 compared to last year.

And most impressively, we have seen a 42.9% decrease in over two years.

Additionally, discretionary expulsion referrals have dropped by 14.1%.

These results are the direct result of strengthening the alignment between district policy and school practices, as well as providing differentiated coaching to our school leaders.

By expanding restorative and preventative strategies within our MTSS framework, we are maintaining safety while also prioritizing accountability.

Our graduation data for North Las Vegas tells a story of incredible growth.

It is important to note that while our adult education programs are located here in North Las Vegas, which can historically impact overall numbers, the results this year are still outstanding.

I want to make note that these are graduation rates of last school year because the graduation rates for this school year won't be out in effective till November, just so you know that.

So graduation rates in North Las Vegas increased by 13.2%, with significant gains across every single student group.

We aren't just seeing more graduates, we are seeing higher quality outcomes with a 1.3% increase in advanced diplomas and a rise in college and career readiness diplomas.

These milestones are a direct result of our enhanced academic planning that prioritizes student choice and our intentional push to increase students' enrollment in AP, IB, and dual enrollment classes.

By focusing on high quality tier one instruction for every student and aligning our CTE pathways with real world industry demands, we are ensuring our graduates are not only ready to finish school, but are truly prepared for what comes next.

Finally, our graduation rates and next steps lead us to our last topic workforce and career readiness.

To wrap up our data, we are seeing a significant shift in how students are prepared for their futures.

While CTE enrollment decreased by 6.3% and AP enrollment by 10%, these numbers reflect a strategic move towards a quality over quantity approach.

We've transitioned CTE to focus two-year programs to prioritize completion, and many students are choosing dual enrollment, which saw a massive 30.2 increase this year.

Our success in these areas is fueled by robust industry partnerships and the use of data points like the PSAT to identify student potential early.

By aligning our master schedules with actual degree programs and expanding our college partnerships, we are ensuring that every student, whether in CTE, AP, or dual enrollment, are gaining the specific credentials and credits that are seamless for them to transition into workforce or higher education.

Our final push for workforce readiness centers on intentionality.

We are moving away from treating CTE as a collection of electives and instead reinforcing these pathways as a coherent sequence that leads directly to industry credentials and college credit.

This includes providing schools with stronger master scheduling guidance to protect these programs of study.

Finally, we are reexamining our middle school curriculum to ensure our younger students have a solid foundation of career learning that connects seamless to our high school pathways, ensuring they are prepared for 21st century economy from day one.

That was a lot.

Now it is time for the best part, as you all love the celebrations.

We are we have so many celebrations over the end of the school year, and we can't wait to share them with you.

And here with me tonight is a principal of Ruby Duncan Elementary, Miss Sarah Payne, and who will share all of that excitement with you.

And I am big charges.

Sarah Payne, Ruby Duncan Elementary Principal for the record.

I'm thrilled to be here tonight, not only to share the celebrations from Ruby Duncan, but also the other schools in North Las Vegas.

My own children attended both Martina's and Bridger Middle School, so I'm excited to share their celebrations as well.

So for Ruby Duncan Elementary on April 29th, Ruby Duncan Elementary hosted an official Purple Star dedication ceremony to celebrate earning the prestigious Purple Star school designation.

The event featured musical performances by our student choir along with speeches from school leaders and distinguished guests.

This designate designation recognizes Ruby Duncan Elementary's strong commitment to supporting military connected students and families by helping them transition smoothly and feel welcomed into our school community.

Ruby Duncan Elementary hosted another event, which is our career day event that gave students the opportunity to explore a wide variety of professions through hands-on experiences with community experts.

Students interacted with first responders, heavy machinery operators, the Red Rock search and rescue team, and a police canine unit, while learning about important roles these professionals play in the community.

The event inspired students to think about their future goals and help them develop a greater appreciation for careers that support and serve others.

Lastly, our fourth grade students at Ruby Duncan participate in the Every Generation Gives, or Egg Project, an engaging philanthropy program that allows students to research and present on a variety of community causes.

During the culminating event in May, students used digital presentations to confidently pitch their selected charities and proudly presented $750 ceremonial checks to local organizations, including Three Square, the Animal Foundation, and Cure for Kids.

The project empowered students by teaching the importance of community service, financial literacy, collaboration, and making a positive impact on their community.

For Elizondo Elementary School, 41 leader in me students from Elizondo Elementary were recognized with an attendance incentive and ambassador celebration trip to the Shark Weaf Aquarium at Mandalay Bay on May 18th for demonstrating improved behavior, leadership, positive attendance, and commitment to bulldog expectations.

Students participate in hands-on learning experiences, including handling shark eggs, touching stingrays, and interacting with aquarium educators.

At Goyne's Elementary School, Goyne's Elementary Career on Wheels event provided students with hands-on opportunity to explore a variety of careers and community services through interactive experiences with local organizations, including the police department, canine unit, firefighters, code enforcement, Nevada Energy, and much more.

Students had the opportunity to ask questions, tour vehicles and equipment, and learn directly from professionals about the skills, education, teamwork, and responsibility required for different career fields.

Lincoln Elementary School.

Fourth grade students at Lincoln Elementary participated in 12 teacher-led lessons focused on financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and work readiness.

Students then visited the junior achievement of Southern Nevada Inspiration Center, where they participated in a five-hour hands-on simulated community experience.

At Martinez Elementary School, a huge thank you to Target and the incredible team of volunteers who spent Memorial Day weekend helping beautify Reynaldo Martinez Elementary School.

More than 100 team members came together through Target's Bullseye Builds program to paint, renovate the campus, helping ensure that students and staff returned to a fresh, welcoming environment in August.

Tom Williams Elementary School.

On April 14th, an extraordinary team of fifth grade students from Tom Williams Elementary School earned first place at the seventh annual junior achievement of Southern Nevada, swimming with the big fish, Shark Tank style competition, competing against schools from across the region, the Venetian Resort Las Vegas.

Oops.

At the Venetian, the team secured the $9,000 grand prize and college scholarships to the University of Nevada Las Vegas for their innovative invention.

A smart medication bottle equipped with a built-in camera and app that allows working parents to remotely monitor their children's health.

Their remarkable achievement also earned them a featured spotlight on Fox 5 Las Vegas More Show.

During the celebration, the school also proudly recognized 65 presidential award recipients for their exceptional academic achievement, hard work, and dedication to excellence in education.

Jim Bridger Middle School, the college football playoff foundation selected Jim Bridger Middle School as one of its featured schools to recognize outstanding staff members who give the extra yard for students.

Congratulations to Miss RuPa and Mr.

Gonzalez for being honored for their exceptional dedication to students through athletics and extracurricular activities.

In recognition of their efforts, both staff members received a thousand dollar award.

Additionally, the administration team was presented with 5,000 and donors choose funding for a special and a special breakfast celebration for the entire staff.

Knottsbury Farm hosted this year's annual band festival where the advanced band proudly represented the school and earned second place in the middle school division.

Students showcased their musical talent, dedication, and teamwork as they competed against outstanding programs from across the region.

Northeast Career and Technical Academy.

The senior grad walk at Northeast Career and Technical Academy was made even more meaningful as seniors were paired with our pre-K students, creating a memorable moment of connection across grade levels.

Northeast Career and Technical Academy had their very first ever graduation ceremony honoring the class of 2026.

Please also note that we had many wonderful graduation ceremonies last week to honor and recognize all the graduates in North Las Vegas.

So the uh the the thing that was on the uh the board, uh I'll stay to the end for questions, uh, but I would like to start a discussion with the North Las Vegas uh local government and city council by starting a new NFL franchise.

Uh I think we should uh uh petition the commissioner and owner and other franchise owners about the process of starting the team, and I highly suggest that we uh vote on a team name.

Uh that's that's what what I've been working towards.

Um I still have a minute.

Uh so uh I uh my my business is failing and I'm trying to go in a different direction.

And uh I think an NFL franchise for the North Las Vegas uh would be a really boost for the economy, and uh it would be very uh beneficial towards the local uh uh business owners, teams, uh child children that are growing up and learning how to uh be a part of something larger than just uh themselves.

And that's why I believe uh an NFL franchise would be really good because California already has three teams, and the the Oakland Raiders just moved here and there wasn't even a vote.

Oh, I I wasn't I wasn't there, so that probably was a vote.

I just wasn't privy to it.

Uh, but I think that we could we had we could start a new uh business uh model by having a starter franchise and maybe even a rivalry match against the Raiders uh when the time comes.

Um, hi, my name is Dominique McCullough.

I am the director for Sin City Rebels Volleyball Club, which is Youth Girls Volleyball Program that I established in 2023.

Um, I am reaching out to discuss the goal of bringing a dedicated volleyball facility to North Las Vegas and to advocate for the needs of our athletes as you plan your future development in the city.

Um, currently a lot of our families within my club car pool to different facilities, whether it be in Summerland or Henderson, and with that I'm spilling $1,000 a month just for the girls to have somewhere to practice, and some of our existing local facilities does not support the current needs that we have for volleyball facilities.

So I would like the city to consider these requirements of the growing demand for this sport and any of your infrastructure in your future planning.

Um, our club is dedicated to just the following objectives.

So we teach young athletes from ages eight to eighteen to play on a competitive level while emphasizing their mental wellness and health balance as well.

We promote diversity and teamwork regardless to whether their gender, the race, the ethnic background, or their financial circumstances.

My goal is to ensure that the funds earned through our program stay within the benefits of our city.

And since City Robles is content committed, excuse me, to helping our community grow while we welcome the opportunity to discuss how we can work together to bring more athletic opportunities to North Las Vegas.

Um, I just really want to start off by saying uh thank you for listening.

Um we've had the you know in our area area, tropical Coleman all the way up to Centennial has been a drag race, and I've brought that up many a time.

Since then, they put up a sign, one of those speed signs to let you know your speeding, how how fast, and it's being recorded.

Um eventually we'll get the police to go there and have the specific times are going to take care of it.

Um I just wanted to say thank you for helping out with that.

Um putting that up, I wanted to say thank you to them.

Um the other thing is if we can at that same Coleman and Sexton area.

If that's possible, we could put a four-way stop there.

It's already a two-way.

If we put a four-way there, it's guaranteed it's gonna slow these people down from going you know 50 miles an hour into 25, and that's been happening.

Um other than that, I'll let you guys get out of here so you can watch the game.

Okay, I brought pictures today.

Okay, this was shot on 35 millimeter film with 85 uh millimeter lens uh F11 for one sixteenth of a second.

And when you guys were doing the uh state of the city, uh our uh councilman black said that we've cleaned the city up, the city's perfect now, and I realized this is two blocks from where I live, and this is a vacant lot surrounded by the lots that are fully built.

Um I realize the reason Councilman Black sees it's different, is he's looking through a rose-colored set of glasses.

Now, what I did, I didn't change the lens, but I put a rose-colored filter, and this is what I got.

Same lens, but now it looks beautiful.

I just realized we could do this with all the vacant lots.

I'm working with a deal with Star Nursery.

They want to get involved in this.

We can go through wherever these lots are building lots that they either need to sell and get something built on, or you know, or clean them up, and we can make the whole city look good.

Now, this these are real houses back there, but that is just nothing but piles of garbage and stuff, and I feel bad for those people because they gotta go past it.

I didn't have the bad one.

But what do you think?
