We express gratitude for our many blessings.

We're grateful for our city.

We're grateful for the people that work here that sacrifice their their time and energy to serve the community.

We express gratitude for the families that live in North Las Vegas and pray a blessing upon them and upon the children as they're beginning a new school year that they could have success.

We express gratitude for our first response responders, our police officers and firefighters that put themselves in harm's way.

We pray for our mayor and our council to make wise decisions that we may strive to lift and improve the lives of those that we serve.

And I offer this prayer and thank thee for all that we have in the name of Jesus Christ.

I just take a moment to silence my phone.

Um thank you very much.

Uh, you know, it's been a very eventful last couple weeks uh with a lot of things going on.

Uh first and foremost, I want to thank very much our staff, uh, the staff at uh for our parts and recreation over at the neighborhood recreation center, and a whole lot of people in the community who uh work together to uh put together our uh another successful back to school giveaway.

No, um, this is my last year doing this, but I'm hoping that very much that we come up with a better name than just saying back to school giveaway.

Um I'd be very much uh be very happy to see that we continue to be able to provide uh not just backpacks and um the other stuff.

We did haircuts this year.

Um thanks for my colleagues here for chipping in uh for some money for the the haircuts on that because I think it really did make a difference.

But uh I I think I'm hoping that uh for next year it has a better name because just you know, back to school giveaway doesn't I I think we could I I think the the event rates a better name, don't you?

It's all about the name.

Um, and then uh a couple days after that, I was very happy to say that I joined our superintendent, uh Madam Uh Joan Ebert, uh, our very own homegrown you know, educational hero.

And um I helped um kick off the the first day of school at uh two uh really uh at the opposite end of the school, but uh one of our schools, JD Smith.

It's kind of like a local legend here, the rebuilt JD Smith.

Uh we were welcomed uh, of course, by the fantastic Mariachi there uh at uh at the school there, um, the Mariachi Bibles.

And then um, although I was running behind because I I had to do an interview, I was also uh uh able to uh welcome uh um I forgot the principal's name over at Tartan uh elementary school and seeing how they embark and yet uh another journey uh uh that this year, and uh as they move forward and um do their very best to deliver um educate quality education to our residents.

Um a couple days after that, uh I'm happy to say that um we uh uh speaking in a neighborhood recreation center.

We tried uh a fishing club activity on August 11th at Craig Ranch Park.

Uh I kind of suspended the uh the fishing activity because uh right away we caught uh a turtle, and which uh when you go fishing, you really don't want to catch a turtle, right?

But we we let him go humanely.

I had the pictures to prove it.

Um so I suspended that because I have a feeling that we're gonna get mobbed by a bunch of actually we wound up feeding the turtles that day, but turned it into a learning uh a learning uh um uh um uh a learning moment, right?
