Thank you again, Mayor.

3:14

Um this item is a request from Fort Worth Christian School for the construction of a new masonry sign at their property located at 6200 Holiday Lane.

Unassigned speaker

3:23

Uh

Speaker 5

3:23

though the location of the sign is actually uh back on the Bogart uh drive side of the property.

3:28

Um this had a little graphic here, but okay.

3:33

So it's it's located right here where the the cursor is showing right at the location of a of a previous uh maintenance building.

3:41

So it was demolished earlier this year.

3:42

So it's uh addressed on holiday lane, but the sign in question is really back on the Bogart uh side of the property.

Unassigned speaker

3:49

So

Speaker 5

3:49

this is a view uh from Bogart looking uh toward the location at the the entrance that's right in front of where that sign would be constructed.

Unassigned speaker

3:58

And

Speaker 5

3:58

this is in the same location looking to the west on Bogart, uh just back down the the street.

Unassigned speaker

4:03

And

Speaker 5

4:03

then looking back the opposite direction, uh toward the east.

Unassigned speaker

4:08

This

Speaker 5

4:08

is a little bit more of a view uh uh zoomed in view of the site.

4:12

You can see some masonry construction there occurring.

4:14

Uh that's not for the the sign cabinet itself, but it is for the structure that is going to hold a um

Unassigned speaker

4:20

uh

Speaker 5

4:20

landscape bed and then also the masonry structure uh that you see that's kind of already gone vertical, um, which is permitted by right currently it just wouldn't be permitted to construct and add the sign, uh which is what the request is before you.

4:33

Um that move forward a little bit more quickly instead of waiting for this um case to come forward because the as I mentioned previously the building had been demolished, so there was some demolition, a little bit of rubble, and they needed to fill in the the site really and and um it was just becoming a I'm not necessarily a safety but an aesthetic um problem in eyesore.

4:51

So wanted to move forward with getting that uh portion constructed.

Unassigned speaker

5:00

We do have uh Joel Priest here from Fort Worth Christian School to discuss their requests with you and answer any questions that you may have, and then I'll follow back up with a recommendation from the development review committee.

Speaker 1

5:05

Thank

Unassigned speaker

5:06

you.

Unassigned speaker

5:08

Come

Speaker 1

5:08

on, give me your uh name and address for the record, please.

Speaker 6

5:11

Joel Priest, uh 7721 Bogart.

5:14

And I appreciate you guys and ladies meeting with us, meeting with me tonight to discuss this.

5:19

Uh pretty much this is a a flower bed uh for lack of a better term, as a placeholder where the old building was at.

5:26

Um it it helps to direct traffic for pickup and drop off at the elementary building.

5:30

Um it sits inside a property, and we've been um trying to beautify the inside of campus with a lot of landscaping and everything.

5:36

So that's that's kind of what we're hoping to do with with this item here.

5:39

So but I um appreciate any any help that you guys can can uh give us and and uh to so that we can finish the project.

Speaker 1

5:48

Perfect.

5:49

Any questions of the applicant?

North Richland Hills Sign Review Board Meeting - October 12, 2026

The North Richland Hills Sign Review Board met on October 12, 2026, at 7:34 PM (scheduled for 7:00 PM) and adjourned at 7:47 PM. The board considered one public hearing request for a sign variance from Fort Worth Christian School and approved the minutes from the previous meeting.

Consent Calendar

  • Approval of Minutes (June 8, 2026): The board unanimously approved the minutes of the June 8, 2026 Sign Review Board meeting as presented.

Public Comments & Testimony

  • Bill Finstead (address: North Snow, 76180) spoke in support of the Fort Worth Christian School sign. He noted that the sign is nearly completed and praised the school's efforts to be a good neighbor, including plans for a sidewalk and other campus improvements.
  • No other members of the public spoke in favor or opposition. No written comments were received from nearby property owners, despite nearly 100 notices being mailed.

Discussion Items

  • SRB26-0023 – Fort Worth Christian School Sign Variance: The request concerns a new masonry monument sign at 6200 Holiday Lane (actually located on the Bogart Drive side of the property, over 100 feet from the property line). The variance seeks approval for two deviations from Chapter 106 (Signs) of the North Richland Hills Code of Ordinances:
    • Height: The proposed sign is just under 17 feet tall. However, approximately 3.5 feet of that height consists of the cross extending above the masonry base, which is about 13 feet tall. The sign is set far back from the road, reducing visual impact.
    • Masonry Surround: The code requires at least 8 inches of masonry surrounding the entire sign. The proposed design features substantial masonry but does not meet that specific requirement due to the cross shape. Staff noted that future code amendments may address such designs, potentially eliminating the need for a variance.
  • Staff Presentation: Corey, planning staff, presented the request, noting that the old maintenance building on the site was demolished, and the sign structure is already partially built (masonry base for landscaping). The sign is internally illuminated. No opposition was received from neighbors.
  • Applicant Statement: Joel Priest (address: 7721 Bogart), representative of Fort Worth Christian School, explained that the sign and flowerbed serve as a placeholder for the former building, help direct traffic for elementary drop-off/pick-up, and are part of ongoing campus beautification efforts.
  • Board Deliberation: Board members asked clarifying questions about the sign's location, setback (no standard setback for signs beyond visibility triangles), and lighting. Councilmember Getz noted the sign appeared well-designed and appreciated the masonry work. Councilmember Delaney expressed surprise that the sign came before the board given its distance from the street, but supported the request.

Key Outcomes

  • Approval of Variance SRB26-0023: The board voted 8-0 to approve the requested variance for both the height and masonry surround requirements for the Fort Worth Christian School monument sign.
  • Next Steps: The sign construction may proceed as planned. Staff indicated that future revisions to the sign ordinance may be brought before the board to simplify approval for similar high-quality, set-back signs.
