The Appearance Commission of Park Ridge, Illinois, met on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. in City Hall Council Chambers. Commissioners Mattingley, Druco, and Stewart were present (quorum of three); Commissioners Kelly and Holmes were absent. Due to the reduced quorum, all decisions required unanimous approval. The meeting covered an extensive consent agenda and four individual discussion cases.
All listed cases were placed on the consent agenda and approved unanimously.
Commissioner questioned the material transition on the porch, where shake shingle would butt directly against lap siding on the same plane. The guidelines require a setback of at least four inches when different materials meet. The applicant explained the original design mistakenly left an open bottom; the shake was added to cover it. After discussion, the applicant agreed to change the bottom material from shake to continuous lap siding matching the house, avoiding the need to set back the porch. The commission approved the revision subject to that change (affecting north and south elevations). Vote: unanimous.
The applicant submitted a revision for a fireplace bump-out and a picture window replacing three individual windows. The commission noted the same elevation was shown twice and confirmed the two changes. No further issues. Motion to approve as submitted passed unanimously. Note: The agenda case number was incorrect; the correct case is SF-2420.
The commission expressed concern about the landscape plan, which was not fully developed and lacked ornamental trees on the outside corners of the front yard (a zoning requirement). The applicant agreed to add ornamental trees. The commission approved the project subject to a more complete landscape plan with ornamental trees on the outside corners. Vote: unanimous. Note: The case number on the agenda was incorrect; the correct case is SF-2601.
The commission discussed the proposed white paint on the lower portion of the building, which would wrap around the northeast corner into the alley. The alley is heavily used and considered a public space. Commissioners expressed concern about the white paint ending abruptly on the corner without a vertical transition, and the color scheme (white) deviating from the preferred muted earth tones. The applicant agreed to adjust the paint to stop at the brick pilaster, aligning with the existing white trim above, and to add an additional light fixture over the second awning for consistency. Motion to approve subject to these conditions passed unanimously.
Commission meeting on this April 2nd Earth Day. Our format is well, first we'll take roll call and and uh uh approve the minutes from the last uh meeting we had, but our uh format is to review all the cases, see if any commissioners have questions about any of them, and if we don't, they would be placed on a consent agenda, and we would approve the consent agenda right away, and then we would go back and go through the cases that uh uh there somebody has a question about. So, uh with no further ado, could we have a roll call? Commissioner Mattingley present. Commissioner Druco Commissioner Stewart here and Commissioners Kelly and Holmes are absent. So this means that uh any decisions that are made tonight have to be unanimous. Um if one of us takes exception, then the case would have to be pushed off to the next uh meeting. So uh could I have a motion with regard to the notes from the last month's meeting? Uh move to approve. And second. All in favor? Aye. Okay, no changes, wonderful. Um okay, now we'll look at the cases. Uh case GA 2602, new garage at 228 North Ashland. No comment. No comment, okay. Case uh B, GA 2601, new garage at 405 North Ashland. No comment. No comment.
