Um it's a special night tonight here as we welcome our Plainfield North High School boys cross-country team, the IHSA 3A state champions.

We've been celebrating a lot here in Plainfield with Central and North bands doing well and so many programs in Plainfield doing well.

And it's uh it's quite a feat to win a state title in uh the state of Illinois, which has so many schools and everything.

But coach, if you could come up and say a few words, sorry, and tell us a little bit about your team and squad, and then uh we have a little something for you, and we'll take some pictures and everything.

Um I've been coaching at Plainfield North since 2011, the head coach since 2014, and in 2013, we finished last in the regional meet.

Regionals, everybody gets to do regionals, like getting last in regionals, you just basically had to show up.

So, in the last 10 years, though, to go from that to winning three trophies in a row, getting second the last two years, and then finally winning it, um, and getting to coach these guys and have all these the family support.

Um, it's meant a lot.

Um, and as you guys know, Plainfield the last few years between Plainfield South and us, we've been on a great run.

I think we've made them better, they've definitely made us better.

Um since 2022, South won it that year.

We got second the next two years, and they were third.

This year we were first.

Had they not had an incident with one of the runners, they probably would have been right there one first or second right with us.

So we're definitely on a good run with them, and so hopefully it makes Plainfield proud that you know we've got two pretty good cross-country teams that have made each other better.

Um just a little bit about these guys too.

A lot of our six of our top seven all ran at Ira Jones Middle School together.

This has been a goal since middle school when they ran with us uh in our summer running program over here running around Settlers Park when they were little sixth graders.

This has been a goal of theirs to get to high school and win a state championship.

So very proud to get to coach them.

They're great young men.

Um it's been fun that we've come by in programs.

So we have the girls team as well.

Our girls finished 14th this year, their best finish in school history.

Um so yeah, I just I'm along for the ride.

We've got great family support, great community support.

I will say to those Ira Jones people, Ira Jones, Richard Ira Jones, who I knew as a kid, um, was a great athlete himself in his day in Plainfield High School and uh Plainfield School System.

So it's not surprising to me that you know uh some of you guys from Ira Jones would be good athletes as well, although I'm sure all of you are good athletes, whatever schools you went through.

Plainfield Village Board Meeting – December 1, 2025

The Village Board of Trustees met on Monday, December 1, 2025 at 7:00 PM in the Boardroom. 2025 Tax Levy Public Hearing (Items 3.a–3.c)

  • Finance Director Pleckham reported the proposed levy maintains the overall rate of 0.4430 (same as the previous year), with an anticipated extension of $11,586,000. The ordinance directs staff to adjust the final amount based on the final EAV, keeping the rate unchanged. After opening and closing the public hearing (no public testimony), the board voted on the ordinance. Outcome: Ordinance No. 3770 approved 6–1 (Trustee Wojowski opposed) to levy and collect taxes for fiscal year beginning May 1, 2025.

The Nook by Elevant Apartments (Items 4.a–4.e)

  • Planner Melrose summarized the project: an annexation, rezoning from R-1 to R-4, variances, and site plan approval for an approximately 8.8-acre multifamily apartment development north of Lockport Street and west of Wood Farm Road. The developer is working with School District 202 on a potential rental assistance program (e.g., three months free rent for new teachers) in lieu of traditional impact fees—no financial impact on the village. All five ordinances (annexation agreement, annexation, rezoning, variances, site plan review) passed unanimously.

Riverfront Manor Bed & Breakfast Special Use (Item 5)

  • A special use permit for a historic bed-and-breakfast at 24044 West Main Street, operated by the owners of Sanctuary Events. The property is a historic home (built 1841) that had been vacant. Conditions: rental only to guests attending an event at Sanctuary, maximum 10 overnight guests, no events on-site, no public AirBnB-style rentals. The applicant confirmed fire sprinkler system plans (13D) and alarm system are in place. Passed unanimously.

Plainfield Pet Resort Special Use (Item 6)

  • A special use permit for non-medical overnight boarding at 14411 S. Route 59 (former Kramer vet clinic). The existing dog daycare and grooming are permitted uses; the special use adds overnight kenneling. The outdoor run area is east of the building, adjacent to a river with a buffer of trees; no expansion of the run is planned. Passed unanimously.

Website Redesign (Item 7)

  • Community Engagement Director DeBone recommended a contract with Granicus (current vendor) to redesign the village website to meet ADA accessibility guidelines by April 2027. Cost: $29,080 for redesign plus an annual subscription of $26,785.42 (with 5% annual increase) for a five-year period ending in 2031. Passed unanimously.

2026 Special Events (Items 8–10)n- Paddy Day Mile: Approved for Sunday, March 15, 2026 at 12:30 PM, road closures included. Passed unanimously.

  • Irish Parade: Approved for Sunday, March 15, 2026 at 1:00 PM, route from Plainfield Central High School through downtown. Organizer (Village Preservation Association) exempt from emergency service chargeback. Passed unanimously.
  • Plainfield Common Ground Music & Arts Festival: Approved for Saturday, October 3, 2026 from 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Setters Park. This inaugural event will include live music, local alcohol vendors (beer and pre-mixed cocktails), arts and crafts, food trucks, and a charity component. Because it is a first-time event, the organizer pays 25% of emergency personnel costs ($1,250 of $5,000 total). A rain date was not added. Passed unanimously.

Public Works Itemsn- Renwick Road Improvements (STP Funding): Approved Resolution No. 1864 committing the local match (20% of construction and engineering costs) for federal Surface Transportation Program funding for improvements from River Road to Route 59. Passed unanimously.

  • Van Dyke Road Resurfacing (STP Funding): Approved Resolution No. 1865 committing the local match for resurfacing from 127th Street to 135th Street. Passed unanimously.
  • Traffic Signal Maintenance Agreement (Meade, Inc.): Approved Amendment #4 to the contract, increasing the monthly fee per location to $192.84 for seven signals; emergency repairs billed time-and-material. Passed unanimously.
