This this is uh uh editorial from the Tribune from last Friday regarding uh e-bikes, and you can take a look at it.

It looks like the state's gonna get a little more serious about coming up with a policy.

Uh looks like there's some legislation in the assembly if you've been following that.

And it looks like they're gonna task uh Secretary of State Unilius with kind of laying out some of the issues.

Um I just want to say it's something that we've struggled with, and a lot of other communities are struggling with, and uh every municipality seems to that that's addressing it.

There's a kind of a strange patchwork.

So the issue isn't going away.

I I just wanted to commend again our police department and I think the village board for being proactive with this.

Uh because this is an issue a lot of people are dealing with.

And I I think when we discussed it, uh, you know, safety was paramount, that's the main thing we're looking at.

And I like if you read the article, it talks about they're looking at like uh initiatives with K through twelve classrooms and high school drivers education as being a component.

And that's what you need, because these are essentially motor motorcycles, only their electric motors.

And uh it's a very different licensure that doesn't exist just yet.

So anyway, it it's it's not going to weigh in and I like that we also agreed to uh revisit this to make sure we're in compliance with state initiative.

Well, I think just to uh piggyback on that a bit, um thank you for the article.

Um typically these things are um if the state actually gets something done, uh which might take a while, but if they do pass something typically um it would be local communities can be more restrictive many times, but not less restrictive.

And um, and I know we're going to review it not just for compliance with the state of Illinois, but we're going to review it to see how effective it's been.

That's some of the things we talked about when we passed the new thing.

So just for the public edification that uh this is an evolving ordinance on e-bikes and things that uh um we programmed in a review to see how effective it is and what sort of amendments or adjustments might be necessary.

Um, because the other counterpoint on the thing is um, you know, I I cycle and I know a lot of older people start to get into e-bikes and they want to use that for transportation, so we want to make sure we are curbing the unsafe practices that go on out there, but not restricting people, especially older people who want to use a e-bike to for transportation purposes.

  • Natalie Garling, Vice President of Plainfield Marching Arts Boosters, introduced the organization and invited the board and community to a Community Day event on Sunday, February 15, 2026 at 3:00 PM at Plainfield Central High School. She noted the organization is self-funded and expressed hope for future village support. The board welcomed the presentation and several trustees expressed appreciation.

    • Authorized the Village President to execute a Memorandum of Understanding with Wheatland Township Road District for cost sharing on the 2026 Non-MFT Street Improvement Program (resurfacing 127th Street east of 59). (Unanimous)
    • Authorized the Village President to sign a 10-year Intergovernmental Agreement with Na-Au-Say Township Road District for exchange of personnel, equipment, and materials. (Unanimous)
