The Village Board of Plainfield met on Monday, April 20, 2026, at 7:00 PM in the Boardroom at 24401 W. Lockport Street. The meeting included the swearing-in of two new police officers, recognition of officers and community members, several proclamations, and action on a wide-ranging consent agenda and business items. Key decisions included a 180-day moratorium on data centers and warehouses, a one-time $234,027.34 donation to the Plainfield Historical Society, and approval of multiple public works contracts and vehicle purchases.
Well, we're going to call the meeting to order. Welcome everybody. We're glad uh always glad to have a full house of people here. Um so we'll call the meeting to order and we'll start with a roll call. Trustee Paniker. Yes. Trustee Bruin. Trustee Sula. Here. Trust you. Trusty Banucci. Here. Trusty Kiefer. Mayor Gadellis. Yes, we'll stand for the pledge, please. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all. Well, thank you again for everyone being here. Um we have a very busy agenda. So I did write an hour and a half long speech to talk about, but I think I'll skip that and we'll get right on to business here. We have two new police officers. Uh Chief, you want to get started on that. Certainly, thank you. All right, as you know, um it's kind of a big deal here, and I'm glad it is a big deal when we hire new officers, um, both either entry or lateral. Uh in this case, two uh lateral officers from other towns. I'll give their biohair in a minute. I just want to thank all the officers uh that came out to support their fellow officers, family members, police commissioners. Um like I said, it is a big deal, it's a lengthy process that we make these people go through. We do not cut corners in any way like you you know you see around the country, um different things happening. Uh we don't hire just to hire because we're shorthanded. We really dot the I's cross the T's and in we hire quality people that are going to come out to my house and your house to handle calls. Um so without further ado, I'm gonna give it a little bio of both of them, and then we can do the swearing in. First off, uh, we have Mia Strickland. Uh Mia grew up in the area and is a proud graduate of Plainfield South High School. Mia spent her first seven years of her professional career at the Memphis, Tennessee Police Department, where she served as a crisis intervention team officer and a field training officer. Mia and her husband are returning to the plainfield area to be closer to her family. And then we have Alex Lopez. Alex is a Plainfield resident, is joining his hometown police department after serving with the Plano Police Department for the last seven years. While with Plano, Alex served as a school resource officer and a drone operator, and Alex is excited to come back and serve uh the community he grew up in.
