That's a title of the term anyway. Welcome to the special question on the history of the Providence City Council. This is our first regular meeting Wednesday, March eleventh, twenty twenty-six. Councilwoman Harris President. Okay, this is an exciting meeting. This is the first that I am aware of, but very important task is ahead of us. And since it's formed since it's establishment in eighteen thirty-two historical actions, government practices, operational structure, and evolution of the city council are essential to understanding the city's policy making process and democratic values. That's the basis for the form formation. So before we get into our discussion, I'd like to just start our Madam Clerk. Item one for the record is an organizational meeting. Item one organizational meeting, election of chair, and election of vice chair. Okay, so let's start. Madam Clerk, I would like to nominate Councilwoman Ryan as chair. Okay. Are there any further nominations? Are there any further nominations? Are there any further nominations? There being no firm of the nominations, the city thoroughly is here by directive to cast one ballot for councilwoman Joanne Ryan as chair. Thank you very much. I'm excited about this. The next challenge we have is uh I'd like to intertain a motion to elect the vice chair. Motion made by I uh will nominate councilwoman Harris as chair, a vice chair. Thank you. And do I have a second? Yes, certainly said. Okay. Are there any other nominations? Any other nominations? Any further nominations? Any no nominations, further nominations, city of my director to pass one ballot for vice chair Harris. So the team of Ryan and Harris. I'd like to put up all excited. And we're working on history. Well, yeah, the family history. Okay, so not it out together for the team to know. So item two, member. Item two discussion relative to the charge scope and goals of the commission. Okay. All right. So as indicated, uh, reformed by the city council with the intention of kind of formalizing on kind of our approach at our work that we do here. Um so we've got a fabulous archives um uh department, and we've got a fabulous uh communications department, and we have an equally fabulous first department. One of my goals was to get us all working together so that we're sharing information and that we're putting our best foot forward all the time on each department has significant um access to significant data and records and reports, and we feel that it's somewhat disjointed in that if we're doing the press release, we don't always have the exact dates and details and facts and figures. I've seen it over and over again. Um I notice it obviously when it impacts me. Um I also know that that exists. So when each council comes in, it shouldn't be a vacuum. They shouldn't lose in order that we've done in the past because the reality is uh the electorate, um, you know, people elect representatives, but those representatives stand on the shoulders of the people that came before them. Um, and there is a body of work that needs to be celebrated, whether they believe in it or the earth has shifted, it's still a body of work that was contemplated and uh labored over it. People had you know input in and it's it's there, but it's hard to access and get that. So, you know, I was trying to wrap my head around before Council Harrow, Councilwoman Harris and I left.
