The Providence Recreation Advisory Board met in regular session on Monday, September 21, 2026, at Rod River's Recreation Center (referred to as 'Roger's' in the transcript). No agenda or minutes were available, so this summary is based on the raw meeting transcript; some passages were unclear due to audio quality. Director Mike and his team, media content specialist Lucy, data coordinator David, Councilman Vargas, and board members attended. The board reviewed a summer programming recap, seasonal hiring data, camp enrollment results, winter programming expansion plans, and the status of Kennedy Recreation Center.
Good evening everybody. We are here uh at the Rod River's Recreation Center. Always love coming here. Do it for clean break over here. So I bet some more stuff in a little bit about Chairman. Chair Sanchise. President Councilman Vargas is accent general for the Kenneth Phillips. This is a meeting, a regular meeting of the record advisory board. So again, I don't see Roger. So always excited to be here. Obviously, a lot happened throughout the summer. So that stuff uh we're gonna talk about uh separation on the winter programming. Um's updates last night there we still are collections on still are or something like that online. Um programming expansion on the attack request chair over here is added budget for recreation requirements. We want to ball right now that goes a lot for us. But before we start, I'll make sure I'm turned over to the director here to tell us what's going on at Roger. Uh again. Those of you really highly coming in, like thank you and we staff for all of the food sitting. Um very popular. Um support exam like director that we um later and at least so they are uh crazy without personally um but uh thank you all for comment um um we're we're excited to get uh a full program started um we start in uh course some time next week. Um was very busy for us. Um I was kind of uh at what's in because I went ashore if we're gonna keep the busy with the construction going on. Um I thought we would miss the beat on that, but uh the numbers were outrageous over summer. Um we have a lot of uh summer programming, very good at the pools. It's busy as it's ever been. So um you know we look very great for that uh that other thing. Um we are um moving forward with the full programming and um you got a lot of stuff going on. Um we have our art club, craft club, uh fashion club, we have baking club, um baker space club, uh a garden club, we've got a beautiful garden out there. Um we were grateful to get a new addition to the uh center which we can water pop. Um brought us some very good numbers summer. Uh we also do have uh uh chat down one o'clock. Um blocks away. Yep, so we uh we staffed that as well um and both the uh water clocks you know pulled up so very very good numbers. Um throughout the uh summer uh um you know luckily we didn't have too many dependently but we did have a few but um the uh we got it we got very we have very good numbers to run the summer. Um I mean I think our uh on the top of my dome, I don't know, Jack has uh done a very good job at uh the numbers and I got great support for the uh main office um update camp numbers like attendance wise we did over 13 almost 1400 uh seconds well the summer set when it's it's all we were very missed with that our three thousand I think we've like thousand eight hundred feet exact um as far as we store have it closed um water fox um chat brought over a thousand and this one here for over two thousand very very well very very so we're excited to uh like I said to get um fall program going with the program going um as you know uh we have uh basketball week in at the top which is very good um and uh yes 20 can be a so uh that was that's um I don't know I don't see any pictures up in this we're going out so uh that's uh that's very good uh world's um invoice 100 number two numbers so um this year we're adding uh we're cheerful squads for our months which is good um let's girls down so um anything that you want to talk what we did have a lot of crowd coming from that we also need to ourselves the center that you would say that if you'd like to do so far trips um in the past summer probably last week house people were um at our staff we really like to shopping thing um heading food come here So uh that's uh that's very good we have uh girls um boys telling number four number two numbers so um this year we're adding uh we uh cheer the new squads for a other one which is good um I've left girls down so um anything that you want to talk about you did have a lot of like we also need ourselves you would say that if you'd like to do so far trips um in the past summer probably class so you can go to our seat house people were um where it's the car staff all we really like to shopping thing um heading to come here uh we got a lot of fun lane so I think here we're gonna get the memory first um at all we did have a lot of kids this summer and um you're on your kind of our staff detector um have the requirements that's magnetic for this apply so that's I mean so it's a question about your your recruit program so I know uh yeah sorry like any people does like an adult swim and sometimes you guys have you guys tag anyway swim this year but can we also swim lessons uh twice to we can that's different very well very well um it started in the morning uh about 20 o'clock in the morning uh before the public came in so we had uh 10 to uh 12 yeah we're lessons and then uh for anybody you have us already in the full after 12 o'clock so we have a left last point so it won't work very well um we also do have um had a couple of programs starting with uh woman out the um wants to do a big old night with the uh cattle towers um so we can start to hear that's in the works that shouldn't happen within the next couple of weeks so uh we're just trying to add you know different things uh that we haven't tried before to give us a you say you didn't use any thoughts but how did that one but that I mean we didn't get as many numbers as we thought we would um and I may I may want to say that there's a hospital construction wrong uh we have all that problem um so in this I'm not gonna bring it on that but it didn't you know we we have numbers but we didn't have numbers yeah I don't want to prepare so we got that square you don't get more parking per hour was I think as a parking lot yes this this whole side you're only gonna go so far with screen this whole side the other side is not an issue correct yeah we've always had that happen a lot but uh we've always got down the side of the board yeah I think that's still gonna happen but this whole side um all the way up to the other one and then the other side of the bus turnaround um this one way that's actually turning going the opposite way so it won't be coming down any months going up and that's probably gonna happen within the next let's say a couple of weeks um so I've been um there's no inspection ahead of time so I don't know we just need to tell for me I don't want some of those to make sure we're on the same page the work upgrade yes what hours um were you like now somewhere uh we tried that in the morning as well uh 10 o'clock in the morning before we all got the public uh we didn't want to too much wealth uh swim after people tried that well the expanded programming for the swim lessons did that positive system resources we just used it just for the wet buffers and that's when any extra money um we always I would always have the uh anyway but one in the morning yeah so I can't kids could get in before public out of it um probably not took a look for that they would go and use the adopt time part as well as well thank you anybody else the fashion club I'm wondering if the teacher considering that oh you match perfectly and you have uniform I are you the instructor of the I love shot well it should be uh listen I think it's I think it's my but and I didn't call them it's all them anything that was happening I didn't tell them this was happening today and I'm like oh so everybody's a match a little good well I just met as well um my sneakers magic also the I mean we've got a lot of the main office this number um great uh anything that we needed she wanted the whole office we'll see uh I can see she does a lot of the uh photo stuff uh lot of some stuff in the main office so uh we'll definitely spot off so very good it's off to you guys I guess uh thank you Teacher considering that oh you match perfectly and you have uniform are you the instructor of the fire shop well it should be a listen I think it's I think it's my button I didn't call them it's all them anything that was happening okay I tell that this I didn't tell them this was happening today and I'm like oh so everybody it's a match well I just suggest that you're um Mike Sneak is natural also the I mean we've got a lot of support in the main office this number um great so anything that we needed she want to see it the whole office Lucy um I can see she does a lot of the uh photo stuff uh lot of support from the green office so we'll talk about that too much so very good it's off to you guys for summer uh thank you for everything like you've done we guys work with this we've got your cheer cover we can go yeah we've got it and then a lot of people trying to get more girls and what do you mean for exactly that we rolled out right well I I could say um we haven't tried it yet uh loose a book here um and we both a lot of girls after COVID because we might have to have a good so we're trying to explain that and get more girls with hoping that this will help get patients I know Jackie's been doing it for quite some time but I think it's great space if we females have damaged with that so well so my daughter chair leads for ballots you guys have like participants for that you can do you like they're very we don't but um it's funny you say that because uh look about this has the match for me yeah and um I also want to shoot it to this matter because I wanted to follow through that and uh we have a lot of fun in the support funding now recorded locations I think we're up somewhere like 13 14 thousand dollars um well I'm uh excited to get into that uh record of like the console McAuge to it some noddings uh well thank you guys yeah for all you do and basically I'll just say it's happening actually before I let it go I want to thank Mike and his team for the great work they do um obviously Rogers always a special place in my heart because it's where I got see somewhat of a hole coming for me uh when I started with the rec but they certainly do a great job and uh appreciate you guys thank you guys hi everyone my name is Lucy I'm the media content special project manager for the rec department I'm just gonna go over some of the summer programming that we have uh so it's part of our summer camp we did a camp fun day which uh the rec department used to do a few years ago before COVID we brought it back this year it was great we had every single camper from every single leg show up to the Badisini field and we held sort of an Olympic style course um games for them and we had a clip out we had inflatables the kids were able to decorate their own um banners for the event and cheer for their teams we did it a little different so all the teams were made up of every single rent center so the kids got a chance to meet different kids from different centers uh we also did a department like wheel trips united states we split the right in half um but half the rec one day half on the other day the kids really love that uh all the recs also had their end of summer cookouts which are always a hit the band news come out there's a band their thing uh face painting a lot of stuff going on to go out of uh this year we also hosted the mayor's cup for baseball uh i don't know if you guys want to talk a little bit about that yeah no you could uh yeah i mean again and go to uh the round uh little lead man for hosting back to back years you can hear me uh so yeah just when I forget over I know the the the HVAC is definitely covering some uh some sound there but um you know I just want to thank the uh little lead for hosting that event for another year um we were able to get a good amount of little things involved in that again I know sometimes it's usually tough to match up our calipkin leagues with our little league because they're rules and their formats but we have a lot of great leadership out there when it comes to these uh youth little leagues and um we put the right brains together to put something like this together and it really was a success um I know the um the mayor's gonna come out there have seen this and of uh our council folks were able to come and support that throughout that weekend um just a really good tournament to put this together from different shots of the city and play some both so we also hosted our annual swim meet which I favor the bill here participate this year actually Vincent Brown who doesn't have a pool uh teamed up with West End to put it in together Vincent Brown gets to leave the YMCA the pool at the YMPA so they could get a little bit of uh practice there and they're very good to participate they love that that was a great event we also have our province college clinic which we've been doing for a couple years the kids get to meet some of the players they do some skills and joke with them we also have the friend of friars basketball clinic um which was I think it's alumni from the basketball team who PC alumni Actually, Vincent Brown, who doesn't have a pool uh teamed up with West End to put it in together. Vincent Brown gets to leave the YMCA, the pool at the YMPA, so their kids got a little bit of uh practice there, and they're very able to participate. They love that. That was a great event. We also have our Providence College Clinic, which we've been doing for a couple of years. The kids get to meet some of the players, they do some skills and drills with them. We also have the Friends of Friars Pasketball Clinic, um, which was I think it's alumni from the basketball team who PC alumni. And they do skills and drills with their kids as well. Yeah, um, we also did swim lessons for our campers and the public this year over the summer, and we also put together some municipal exploration days so the kids got to visit or they received a visit from sustainability or the blue and they got to learn about different job opportunities within the city. Um they got to visit the real-time crime center, which they thought was super cool. They got to see a drone footage of some of uh the police officers responding to a call. They really enjoyed that, and then they had a visit from the Providence Fire Department, and they got to do a drill. Um, they brought their little camper with the kitchen and the bedroom, and they did a fake fire with the smoke, like the glove jumping out the window.
