So the next item on the agenda is work session topics for determination of the city council's salary.

2:10

So we'll go move forward with if we want to motion to raise, lower or not change the city council's salary.

2:23

I guess that I'll start out and just say that I think that our salaries that we have now are pretty comparable to what other cities are offering, uh especially with our 3% raise in 2024 and 2025.

2:40

Um given that the current compensation levels and the fact that several comparable cities have held the salaries steady.

2:47

Um looked like CTAC, Shoreline, UP, and Lakewood all held this last year.

2:53

So my personal opinion would be to um not change.

3:00

Um I mean, before there's a motion, if anyone else has opinions

Unassigned speaker

3:06

if

Speaker 1

3:06

you want to voice

Unassigned speaker

3:08

them.

Speaker 5

3:08

I would agree with you for the exact reasons that you cited.

3:12

I took a look at the data as well, and it looked like a majority of the cities did not increase their salary last year, whereas we voted to increase three percent.

3:24

So I would be okay if we uh decided to do no change.

Speaker 4

3:32

Yep, I'll I'll echo all the sediment.

Discussion Items

  • Determination of City Council Salary: Commissioners reviewed compensation comparables. Chair Holmes expressed her opinion to keep the salary unchanged, noting that a 3% raise had been approved for 2024 and 2025, and comparable cities (CTAC, Shoreline, University Place, and Lakewood) held their salaries steady. Commissioners Thompson, Veal, and Vice Chair Gar concurred, agreeing with the rationale of maintaining the current level.
  • Upcoming Meeting Date: The agenda originally proposed March 27, 2027, but the commission noted this fell on a Saturday. The date was corrected to March 25, 2027. The meeting is planned to be held virtually.

Key Outcomes

  • The City Council salary was unanimously maintained at its current level (motion by Chair Holmes, seconded by Commissioner Veal).
  • The next regular meeting was scheduled for March 25, 2027, correcting the date from March 27, 2027 listed in the agenda.
