Yeah, let's call the meeting to order.

0:29

And uh and do we have to remind me?

0:36

I'm sorry, do we have to nominate the meeting to start or is that just for the minutes?

0:41

Okay, thank you.

0:42

Yep.

0:44

Um and then we have uh minute approval from our last meeting.

0:50

Um we have a motion to approve that motion to approve.

0:58

Do we have a second?

0:59

All second motion approved.

1:03

All in favor.

1:09

Okay.

1:10

Um the first topic is to talk about the historical record scanning project.

1:18

Um I didn't really have a chance to talk to you guys beforehand, but I know you guys have been working together on the historic homes project, and but I was wondering, Kim, if I could ask you to either temporarily step off of that or in addition to um help with the scanning project.

1:37

It's just something that uh needs to happen during the day, and I just don't have the capacity to step in there.

1:44

Well, and I don't think we need somebody over it because I think we're just gonna send everything to UCI.

1:50

Yes, but not everything.

1:52

You want somebody to go through all this stuff?

1:54

Yeah, not everything was uh reviewed, and I know that Perry had come up with uh an organization system which would was great and we can still use, but just to uh process everything through that system and then decide what we want to send and manage that.

2:14

Okay, yeah, and I and I can show you I I can take the time to do that.

2:24

Um I just won't be able to do anything after that.

2:27

Thank you.

2:30

Um Ben, so on the scanning project, do you want to once Kim decides what documents we're going to scan?

2:37

Do you want to uh make it so that we can go ahead and send more boxes?

2:42

Yeah, because so that we don't have to meet again before we can send more boxes, just like get an approval.

2:48

Right.

2:49

We the discussion we had before was to send one and see how it went, see what it looked like.

2:53

Yeah, and we did you know we did that.

2:55

I I did not know that we're gonna do that.

2:57

Yeah, I we did it.

2:58

I got the receipt back.

2:59

I have it on a hard drive, and I'm hoping that once Kim decides what other documents to send off, that we can just go ahead and do that without having to get approval from everybody again.

3:11

Would you be able to send that to me so we can I have it right here if you want to see it in okay?

3:17

But do you want to just see it later so you can review it?

3:19

Yeah, just so I can see it visually.

3:21

That'd be great.

3:22

Thank you.

3:23

How much is it gonna cost?

3:26

Well, in that okay, so if you look at this bill, um the hard drive was sixty-five dollars, and then um they charge the biggest amount they charge was 208, 208 dollars, and then plus one thirty-nine.

3:43

So it's probably going to be about three hundred dollars a box.

3:48

That was a bankers box.

3:50

A bankers box.

3:51

I think how many boxes do you think there are, Ben?

3:54

Three.

3:55

I I I'm I know I can't I can picture the drawer and I fit.

4:01

I think it's gonna be three or four more boxes.

4:06

Yeah, yeah, but they'll go through like that box had like bigger items that had pictures, so they have to like open everything up and then scan it, and um anyway.

4:18

I was really they've called me every month.

4:21

These guys are really like good at their job, and they keep asking, are you ready for us to pick up the another box?

4:31

Yeah, it came back exactly how I send it.

4:34

And yeah, so do we wanna I don't know how we need to do it so that we have like a motion to approve spending that money on the remainder of the project, if that's okay.

4:48

Sure.

4:48

Do we have to have that motion in the minutes released to the public before we can do that though?

4:55

Does that mean it has to wait to the next meeting?

5:00

Um no, I think we can as long as we have it in agreement, we can move forward.

5:03

How much it doesn't have to be approved.

5:05

How much is our budget yearly?

5:06

Five thousand.

5:07

Five thousand?

5:09

And you want to spend it, so you you want to get this project done by the end of June.

5:14

We haven't really spent that much.

Riverton City Historic Preservation Commission Meeting

April 3, 2025 | 6:05 p.m. – 6:57 p.m.

The Historic Preservation Commission met to discuss historical records scanning, participation in Town Days, the state history competition, park history projects, the oral history project, historic home plaques, and the fiscal year 2026 budget request.

Consent Calendar

  • Approved the minutes from the December 5, 2024 meeting (Motion by Alex Johnson, second by Kim Rindlisbach, all voted in favor).

Public Comments & Testimony

  • No public comments were made during the meeting.

Discussion Items

Historical Records Scanning Project

  • Jamie Larsen reported that the box of documents sent to UCI Scanning returned in excellent condition. The commission discussed sending the remaining three to four banker boxes to UCI. Cost per box is approximately $300, and the total budget for scanning is $5,000 annually. A motion to approve budget funds for the remainder of the project was made by Alex Johnson, seconded by Kim Rindlisbach, and passed unanimously.

Booth at Town Days

  • The commission considered setting up a booth for Riverton City's Town Days event. After discussion, members agreed to compile materials for the Historic Homes project (brochures, a sample plaque) and place them at the city council's existing booth rather than staffing a separate booth. Commissioner Tish suggested this approach to reduce burden on the commission, and others supported it. They will also include business cards and seek permission from the city council.

State History Competition

  • Commissioner Tish informed the commission that the state history competition is currently underway (March/April) and encouraged members to participate as judges next year. She noted it is an all-day event with required training, but a fun way to engage with history.

Riverton Park History

  • Ben Behrmann completed the assignment for histories of Riverton's parks and forwarded them to the Communications and Parks Departments. Jamie Larsen will follow up on feedback regarding the submissions.

Oral History Project

  • Ben Behrmann proposed creating a space on the city website for oral histories where citizens can record and submit their own stories without commission involvement. He will work with Jeff Trimble and Brooke to compile a list of interview questions and set up the online submission process. Commission members expressed interest in conducting interviews; Alex Johnson plans to interview his grandfather about Riverton history. Flash drives are available from budget for recordings.

Historic Homes Project

  • Jamie Larsen presented two plaque concepts from Communications: a small rectangular plaque (concept 2) and a large round coin (concept 1). The coin is more cost-effective at $50 each compared to $205 for the plaque. Commissioners preferred concept 1, with wording including the home's build year and the date added to the registry. The commission voted to approve concept 1 (Motion by Alex Johnson, second by Kim Rindlisbach, all in favor). Jamie will obtain a quote for customization and follow up on brochure printing.

Request for Budget for Fiscal Year 2026

  • Ben Behrmann requested $5,000 for FY 2026 (starting July 1, 2025) for a plexiglass cover for the doctor's office basin, historical signs for Withers Dairy Farm and the church building on 12600 South (estimated $3,000 total), and future plaque production. Commission members also discussed future projects such as an architectural historian review of city buildings for a self-guided tour with QR codes (estimated $20,000–$25,000). The commission agreed to request $5,000 again for FY 2026.

Key Outcomes

  • Approved motion to send remaining historical records to UCI Scanning using current budget funds, with Kim Rindlisbach to organize documents.
  • Approved use of the coin design (concept 1) for historic home plaques, with final wording to be determined.
  • Decided to participate in Town Days by providing materials for the city council's booth rather than a separate booth.
  • Agreed to request $5,000 for the Fiscal Year 2026 budget.
  • Directed Jamie Larsen to follow up with Brooke on plaque customization costs and brochure printing.
  • Directed Ben Behrmann to work with Jeff Trimble on oral history website submission process and with the Parks Department on park history feedback.
  • Meeting adjourned at 6:57 p.m.
