The Riverton City Council held a work session at 4:30 PM and a regular council meeting at 7:00 PM on June 2, 2026, at City Hall. The work session included a joint meeting with the Planning Commission to discuss long-term vision and development patterns, as well as a discussion on traffic mitigation at Sentinel Ridge. The council meeting covered public comments, staff reports, multiple public hearings, and action items. All votes were unanimous, with Councilmember Pierucci recused from one item.
We have a great idea. Thank you very much. Good evening, everyone. It's a pleasure to welcome you. Today is Tuesday, June 2nd, 2026. And this is our regularly scheduled city council meeting. We did have a work meeting at 4:30, which was uh, I think extremely productive as we talked about updating and improving our general plan. We appreciate all our planning commissioners being here for that. Okay, we will move right into our regular scheduled council meeting, and we will have a prayer to begin from Peggy Van Hafden. Our father, which are in heaven, father, we are so grateful to be here in these beautiful surroundings. We're grateful for our old building that is being used so beautifully for historical purposes. We think of how it was and how the beautiful building it is. Our beautiful mountains, and for Riverton, which is a beautiful city to live in. Father, we're grateful for these people who have run for election and won and are sitting here and making decisions about our city. We're grateful for our mayor, uh Tish Baroker, who does it uh an excellent job, and we're proud of her. We ask the father now to be with us to watch over us, to uh have the people in charge here make good decisions for our city, that they will be well and healthy, that their families also will be. And Father, we say this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen. Thank you, Peggy, very much. That was very kind prayer. It's appreciated. Okay. It looks like Chief Taylor is going to lead us in the pledge. Audience, please arise and repeat after me. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. And to the Republic for which it stands. Very much. Okay, we will start with mayor council staff reports. I'll start with the staff. I know we first of all, uh, Miss Garn has a lot to say tonight. She's been working very hard on the Fourth of July. So let's give her some time. I wanted to go over a few things that we've um our department has been doing the past couple of months, and then we're gonna have a little bit of discussion about Riverton town days, that little party that we put on. So we started off uh the spring with our annual half marathon. We had 678 runners, 245 in our half, 128 in the 10, and 305 in the 5K, and they came as far as Florida this year to participate in our race. Then we had our Miss Riverton pageant, we had 13 contestants. Our future is bright with these young ladies. They are extremely impressive. Then uh for Easter, we brought back uh that teen flashlight Easter egg hunt. We did that up until 2020, and then we had to do, we had to adjust, come up with a new plan, and we brought it back this year. We estimated we had between five and six hundred participants in that event, and it was well received by our teenagers. So I left out the regular um bunny hop event we had. I'm sorry, we don't we don't do a traditional egg hunt, which still disappoint some of our residents, but we don't have to call out extra reinforcements from our police department because we don't host the Easter egg hunt where the moms are fighting over that egg. So uh then we had our spring cleanup days. Just for your information, I always wonder is this still worth it that you know if we do this or not? So Brooke did an amazing picture for me to help you visualize what we've collected here. If you look on the event lawn, that is 98 dumpsters. But if you were to stack those on top of one another in front of City Hall, this is what 98 dumpsters would look like. So uh from Western Springs Park, we had 20 loads that were hauled away from waste management, and then we had city dumpsters with 13 loads from the city park, or from Western Springs, pardon me. And then for the city park, we had 56 loads hauled from waste management line from our city.
