I'm here to talk about um a the East Plaza in the convention center.

The artist has made a proposal and worked out the design proposal.

We are hoping to go to council for contract in December on the 10th.

Um Kimberly Garza was uh selected by the panels, and the panelists is the same panel that approved all the other uh large works for the convention center.

As a reminder, we had over 650 works of art in the in this selection database at the time.

Um we had a very diverse panel that worked through all the locations.

Um and we had a uh project plan that we also followed.

So Kimberly is here um in Sacramento.

She's uh happens to be a landscape architecture, but she arch architecture architect, sorry, and she is also an artist, and so she um likes to make things that are a little playful.

She also um likes to have people interact with her work as well.

So she is here in um working on this will be one of her larger public art pieces that she's done here in the area, so it's kind of exciting.

Um her project goals.

Um she started by conceptualizing, like most artists do, with a theme, and she wanted to showcase uh California's arch iconic landscapes and the sculptures that would somehow portray that, and she um wanted it also to ha people to have a way of interacting with it and enjoying it.

Um so she looked at the redwood trees here in California, and she then also, you know, the you know, the whimsy of driving through them and creating this large spaces, those beautiful iconic places, but then she also became inspired by the threatening landscapes that were happening, and so she looked at some of the trees that were devastated by the changing climates that we're having, and she decided that some of those fabrics and woods would be particularly good for her project.

So it's to create she wants to create one or up to three sculptures.

Now it's a concept, so she needs to really study the budget and get a real good idea what she wants, you know, how much it's gonna cost her to make it, and by doing so, uh, we give her the next contract that really allows her to do a full concept and final budget before she goes into construction.

So that's the next phase.

But she knows kind, you know, she's then she has to hire her engineers and her fabricators and check on pricing.
