- Item 2: Interviews for Ann Land and Bertha Henschel Memorial Funds Commission (Seats E and H) – Nine applicants were interviewed. Nominations were continued to the next meeting. - Item 5: Interviews for Preservation Commission (Seat C) – One candidate, Ryan Miller, was interviewed. Unanimous motion to nominate and forward Ryan Miller to the Mayor for appointment.
- Item 6: Interviews for Sacramento Heritage, Inc. Board of Directors (Seat A) – Two candidates: Kay Worthington (interviewed) and Dimitri Pevsener (withdrew). Unanimous motion to nominate and forward Kay Worthington to the Mayor for appointment.
- Item 7: Interviews for Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission (Seats D and E) – Twenty-two applicants for two positions. Both incumbents reapplied, but one (Louis Vasmara) was out of the country and unable to interview. Interviews were conducted, and nominations were continued to the next meeting. The committee also heard from Arts Commission representative Jonathan Raymond, who noted the commission's focus on grant-making, public art, the Creative Edge cultural planning process, and a new race and cultural equity committee.
- Item 8: Nominations to Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Commission (Seats A, C, and D) – The committee reviewed applications and unanimously voted to nominate and forward to the Mayor: Cathy Creswell for Seat A, Samuel Starks for Seat C, and Tyffanie Wedding for Seat D.

No, this is our this is our meeting today. Well we've got a quorum. We do, sir. You're paying a full price. Okay. Let's call the meeting of the uh personnel and public employees committed to order. Would the current clerk please uh call the role to establish a quorum? Member Ashby, Member Warren, Member Hansen, Chair Carr. We have a quorum. If you're here today to speak to the committee but are not interviewing, you'll need to fill out a speaker slip that's in the back window and turn into the assistant clerk here. You will also see the assistant clerk for any assisted um speaking and listening devices. This is the time to turn your cell phones to the silent position. As we conduct our interviews, we're going to call you down. And if you'll come down to the podium here, you'll have two minutes to answer the questions. They're on the screen and behind us, but in front of you. And at the end of your interview, we'll ask you to step to your right, and you'll have your picture taken by CATIA that we'll include in the agenda packet for the next meeting. With that, would you like me to call our first item? Uh, before we call a consent calendar, I'd like to say uh happy new year to everyone. Uh welcome back. I hope everyone had a very nice and happy holiday season. And we are all looking forward to continuing to do great things in twenty eighteen. Uh first item is the consent calendar. We have one item for this, which is the meeting schedule for the coming year. Aye. Those opposed, no. Abstentions. Item two is interview for the Ann Land Bertha Henschel um committee. And we have nine candidates for two positions. And neither of our incumbents um reapplied. So I will call you down one by one, and again, just come down to the podium. Our first is Alexander Kaufman. Okay. Barbara Steinberg. Good afternoon. Afternoon. Oh, I just started talking. Um, okay, first question. Why am I interested? Um, I've been actively involved in the community throughout the city for more than 20 years. I sat on and at one point sat on my neighborhood association board for 16 years here in Midtown. And I'm currently very involved with a variety of other um neighborhood associations and uh organizations in the community where I live. But I feel it's important to stay involved, and this would be a new threshold for me uh in terms of walking the talk for those in need. And particularly today, since issues related to homelessness and hunger have grown exponentially here in Sacramento. Um, what qualifies me, I think, is for three years I worked for the California Department of Public Health in the Department Network for Healthy California, CalFresh, which is used to be food stamps. I was a contract manager administering millions of dollars of USDA funds to various nonprofits who um did outreach for CalFresh to challenged communities such as these, and um the processes and guidelines were similar to what I think would be required for this position. Um sometimes those those guidelines were cumbersome and time consuming for the agencies, and I just would hope that my experience would help facilitate these things moving along a little more smoothly and getting funds to the organizations where they're needed.
