The Personnel and Public Employees Committee met on December 11, 2018, at 1:39 PM in Sacramento City Council Chambers. Vice Chair Steve Hansen presided with Member Angelique Ashby present. The committee approved previous meeting minutes and nominated members to three advisory commissions. - Nominations to the Sacramento Disabilities Advisory Commission (Item 3): Staff from the Department of Human Resources recommended candidates based on interviews and interest. The committee unanimously nominated Alan Macmillan (Seat E), Angelica Williams (Seat F), and Danielle Bath (Seat H).
- Nominations to the Utilities Rate Advisory Commission (Item 4): Staff from Public Works recommended reappointing Keith Ellis and provided four other candidates. The committee instead unanimously nominated Melissa Lee (Seat A) and Megan Fidell (Seat G), noting their engineering backgrounds and district representation. A question about a potential conflict for a candidate serving on both this commission and the American River Flood Control District was resolved as no conflict exists. - Ethel McCloud Heart Trust Fund Advisory Committee (Report Back): City Attorney Gary Lindsey reported that changing the committee's membership from a required Sacramento County Adult and Aging Commission spot to an at-large position can be accomplished by city resolution without county action. We'd like to call this meeting of the personal and public employees committee to order. Madam Clerk, uh, we have a quorum. We do. And welcome, Miss Ashby. We have a very busy agenda today. You can tell by the full crowd. The line out the door. We have one consent calendar item. The meeting minutes from last time. Would you remove that item? That would be awesome. I hear a motion. I'll second. Do you support your motion? And I support your motion as the second. So consider that unanimous vote. It's unusual to have a committee of two. It's actually very efficient. Yeah. Love it. Uminations to the compensation committee. Um six candidates and interviewed five. Oh, perfect. Just uh I'm your staff. Okay. That's right, I forgot. Uh do you remember having a question about this and wondering if maybe we should our last search was so focused on getting a judge that I these are this is a great candidate pool, but I wondered. I remember wondering if we should keep this candidate pool but open it one more time. We can. I think we should because we focused all of our efforts on filling that judicial seat because it's so difficult. And these are great candidates, and one of them may well be selected, but I thought perhaps we should broaden the pool a little bit if we put it back out. We are anticipating having a meeting in January. Yeah, they have a quorum without an appointment today. Right. They would have four seated members. Um I think that do you know when the next seat opens on this commission? I think it's Mr. Kawada's seat, and I will tell you. So his term expires at the end of 2020. Yeah, we appointed fairly recently. Cole and Tiffany, and they expire in 2021. Yeah. So it will be a little while. It'll be a couple of years before we can appoint somebody another new person. I think though there's because of some of the work that they've been doing. Um that they'll be taking it. Yeah, I think January, from what I heard, is gonna be a big meeting. Yeah, I just got to the cons that we so we had a project that the consultant worked on. I just got their availability dates today. So I was going to reach out to the four members that are seated to see if I can achieve a quorum on either of the two dates that are available.
